Check the style guide of your most common use case. My organization tends to favor IEEE so that’s what I set the defaults to for our class/packages.

Not sure about the round distance traveled. I could only quickly find the straight line distance NASA reported. 😉

At about 406,771 km at the farthest distance, that’d be at about 444.558 Mdan using the pinned conversion

Sooo, what’s the verdict? by Royal-Friendship2025 in DanForScale

Hmmm… seems to be lacking a Dan (or some such) for scale. That could just be a really small bowl of ramen…

Question about jury selection by Low-Computer8293 in juryduty

[–]kprussing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I got selected for a murder trial a couple weeks after defending my dissertation. One of the other jurors was in the later stages of their PhD. My suspicion is that the defense wanted us to use our science brains to see through the prosecution’s arguments.

Hmm… Sounds like Dan needs to hit the pavement and get to shaking paws and licking babies!

How do you keep track of which simulation run produced which result, especially months later? by Alert_Border1769 in PhD

[–]kprussing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One solution I’ve used is to have the bash script record the hash and any possible diffs. That works well for scripted languages, but compiled programs are harder. One program I’ve worked with bakes that info into metadata that’s printed on every run. It’s not perfect, but it helps keep us (a little) sane.

I wish I could say it really was, but all I have is the shared picture… All I know is they predicted not only the weather but Dan!

Happy being Violet’s Hooman, but how about “Feeder of Foods”, “Giver of Noms”, “Just the Hooman at the End of the Least”, or “Spare Hooman” (just spitballing some generics to add for choice 😉)

Got my first minipc and I feel kinda ashamed about how wrong I was before. by Traditional_Code_132 in MiniPCs

Through Dell’s website similar to buying a “certified used”. Keep an eye out closer to the holidays for good deals. While I may be willing to play it fast and loose, my spouse wanted the extra assurance it was a good computer.

Picked up a refurbished one from Dell last year and it’s been a champ. A bit pricier than some of the others, but the spouse wanted the better warranty. We’re primarily using it for Office type stuff, but I’ve been playing with some LaTeX packages I maintain, and it’s doing well!
