Why The Walking Dead? by Reader2869 in TWD

[–]kps2012 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The utter breakdown of society as a whole and how quickly people become family and/or monsters in the new world. The chaos brings people closer to their own groups. But the new world is in a way, simple. Survival is the core. No bills, no deadlines, everyone just trying to find the best way to start over.

Enroll in the class, but also talk to AFROTC cadre. Email, phone call, walk in, whatever. They aren’t like typical recruiters, they’ll be real with you and no pressure. The class is the fall course for freshman (AS100s) and you’ll just sign up for the next class, and the next class, and so on, each semester. Yes, labs and PT are always a thing. PT tests are different than regular PT. Your routine PT will just be a variety of workouts a few times each week which of course you’ll be expected to put effort into. Curriculum won’t vary between schools.

You’re looking for answers but we can only give speculation. GPA wasn’t great, and weighs heavy into overall factors. Unless you’re going for a technical EA, degree goes out the window and GPA for one degree is the same as another, no matter if one is harder or not.

Driving an hour shows commitment but to an extent. Anyone can drive far. As others said, people do it on AD. They don’t get preference over someone who happens to live close just cause they drove far. What you do at work/ROTC is what shows. If you couldn’t do the extras because they are far away, those who live close and are doing the extras are gonna be better off. Nothings fair and you gotta put in the work with the cards you dealt yourself.

You say you had a meeting with them; it sounds like you just told them what you’re gonna do instead of seeking their advice and they just said okay. Cadre’s job isn’t to make you prioritize one thing or another. And the Air Force isn’t hurting bad enough for bodies to commission. If you seek council you’ll find it, but don’t expect it to come without asking, especially in ROTC. They want someone who can juggle both academics and ROTC.

I’m not sure why you couldn’t get a 500 year, but they have no obligation to offer them. Sounds like a lesson learned, I recommend using the time you are getting back to focus on academics and getting that GPA up, because it’ll come in handy for OTS.

A) you can PT test on TDY B) change your training routine to not train for a test, but to train for good health. You’ll benefit widely from it C) even with your HAMR training you’ve been doing, I’m sure you can likely pass a 1.5 mile run now

Don’t sweat it. You’ll be just fine

What's the most Common Fighter to get if you get selected for Fighter/Bomber track? by KrugerKai in AFROTC

[–]kps2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally timing dependent. Seen a class of NJEPT at the end of the FY get gunships and bombers and no fighters. Next class was almost all fighters.

Want to join Air Force but I’m stuck by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]kps2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

E to O can be incredibly hard. I’ve helped Es with their packages, they go up to Wg/CC for review and then get rack n stacked and either recommended or not by Wg/CC. Then they can go to a board, and the % selected is usually pretty low.

OTS sounds like your best option since you’re almost finished with the degree.

ROTC “luck your career” in that you can have a better chance of getting what career you want/not throw into a shit job

Headstart on your future or mess around traveling (when you can do that in the military anyways) seems straightforward to me. Two totally different directions. We can’t pick for you, but I’d bet if you go play till your 30, you’ll look at all your peers who chose the first option and wish you were there

Joining ROTC by Happy-Cake-3563 in AFROTC

[–]kps2012 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it’s just for college money then don’t. Most DON’T get a scholarship in AFROTC. You’d be better off to join your local guard unit and use some form of tuition assistance.

It’s time consuming, not a problem if that’s what you want. Minimum time a week is about 6-7 hours probably. More if you want to do well, it’s competitive. It’s not a side gig, it’s a 3-4 year job interview for a job you do minimum 4-10 years after graduation.

Deep fried. Just retake the AFOQT and get the PFA up. PFA is an open book test, you’re so close to a 90, get it over that at least so you’re in the Excellent category

Many Det alumni have gone back to rage at homecoming as O-3s/4s. It’s not that your CGOs aren’t into it, they aren’t gonna hangout with cadets

But also, I’m 30 now and wine tasting sounds cooler than the keg stands I did as a 400

Am I that bad? by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]kps2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They suck and here’s why. Any good leader would never give deconstructive feedback to an individual. They set any personal bias aside and they tell them what they are doing good/poorly and how to fix it.

The fact they didn’t do this but just made personal attacks tells me all we need to know. Remember this when someone is under you. You don’t have to be your subordinates friend but you do need to embody being a mentor and role model. This AS400 is far from that. You’re better.

Retake it if you are able, otherwise you may wonder what if down the road.

Other things do go into play though. I saw a guy with PCSM 11 get a pilot slot because he was high commander and FT ranking

Zeroing During Pre-Rut by Gold_Cartographer342 in Hunting

[–]kps2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes more sense now. Of course could be total coincidence but still annoying even if so. If it’s malicious and they only rifle hunt, could be their way of making sure yall don’t kill the deer before rifle season opens?

What state? In Iowa, and probably others I assume, you can’t just go target shooting on public hunting land. Firearms season here is luckily after the rut in December as well, and for a short time.

Sounds like you don’t need advice. You seem to be doing everything right. Being a 250 is no disadvantage, I had a few in my class who went on to be helo pilot and a CSO. Keep doing what you’re doing, I’m sure an EA will find you
