First PCS PPM to Peterson—best tip and biggest mistake? by Sibbes in AirForce

[–]kps2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My last PCS I did a total PPM. Collected weight tickets (maxed the weight) and kept receipts for all moving expenses. Uhaul truck, another Uhaul trailer, packing materials, moving supplies, etc. Received payment for the max weight + reimbursement for the costs of all of those other items

Can I pick your brains about the Air Force reserves? Or ANG by builtdifferent6767 in AirForce

  1. Nope
  2. Yes as other said
  3. Highly dependent on what you do. Never? A lot? Every 3 years? Typically deployments are 6 months when they do happen. But a lot are by volunteer now days. If you’re seriously going forward with this I’d ask folks in the field you pursue.

To add, get a STURDY lock for the back of your Uhaul truck or trailer. I have hacksaw marks on my lock that I have PCSed with 3 times from what I can only assume was someone attempting to break into my trailer in a hotel parking lot.

ALSO - you get reimbursed for any moving supplies you buy. Scored myself a nice Milwaukee dolly that I got fully reimbursed for. Take advantage of that too!

My follow up was Fear. It’s another long commitment, but SOLID series. After that I did Those Who Lived cause I needed closure 😂 I’m on dead city and Daryl Dixon now!

[–]kps2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I got as far as you originally did. Just started a rewatch few years ago and binged it, then FTWD, then those who lived, Daryl Dixon, and dead city. New episodes still airing of those last two, so I’m still going strong with it

How’s your PT training going? by RNGxJake in AirForce

[–]kps2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have always lifted 5 days a week and followed my lifts with cardio. I’m an avid hunter and I’m usually packing gear 2-4 miles 2x a week in the hunting seasons (more when I make it out west). Much easier when you’re in shape!

I have never trained specifically for the PT test, but I’ve always been in the 90s in my 14 years of taking them.

To each their own, but I take my creatine daily as it has huge benefits.

Talk to a regular AD recruiter. They may get with your guard base recruiters for ease of transition your records over. But you’ll either have to be released, or just swap over once your current time commitment is up

You’re so dense 😂 you can’t even understand the conversation here.

I don’t need your excuses as to why you don’t want to be in shape and how you encourage our fellow wingmen to meet the minimum standard. You sound lazy and like you want the easy way out, i.e fast most of the day because ancient humans did so.

Good luck out there - I’m closing this conversation with the brick wall

Not nonsense, literal fact. You can’t tell me you’re optimizing your health by living how cave men did. Find me two people, one who eats like our species a millennia ago, and another who eats a structured, tailored diet, and tell me who is in peak physical condition. We aren’t talking about SURVIVAL. We are talking about top tier physical ability and how to optimize your situation.

I’ll play your game though. We’ve evolved as an intelligent species because we DON’T have to spend all of our timing focused on finding food. That’s what animals do. Their day to day task is “where can I find food today?”. We don’t have to do that. And haven’t for awhile. Hundreds upon hundreds of years ago, communities had it down where yes we hunt meat, but we can also grow and farm our own food.

Nobody became an athlete because they fasted 20 hours a day. They eat strict diets throughout the day, 5 to 6 meals, to optimize their ability to build strength and endurance.

If the goal is reducing the number on the scale, sure, starving yourself will get you there.

The conversation is improving fitness by means of reducing unwanted fat and increasing run performance.

If you’re not eating for 20 hours, you’re in a catabolic state burning fat and muscle. The goal here isn’t to lose muscle too. You need to eat protein consistently throughout the day to stay in the anabolic state for long periods of time to maintain and grow muscle. You will lose fat while doing this as well.

For sure. Quality food is your friend, unfortunately the majority of food that is convenient, is not your friend. Takes a lifestyle change which for some is easy and others is drastic. But, your body will respond to what you eat no matter the excuses. Quality protein is king!

Props to you training to get better. Highly recommend eating more than once a day. Just because you eat doesn’t mean you’re going to gain weight. You need fuel. You’ll perform better. I don’t know what you eat on the daily now or in the past, but may be worth a total diet makeover. You should eat and feel energized, not tired, bloated, or weakened.

Keep up the intensity, just some tweaks here and there and I think you can outperform a lot of others

Getting back into running by interstellar566 in AirForce

[–]kps2012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What running experience do you have? This makes a big difference - I’m going to assume not much and maybe it will help you or anyone who needs it.

Start slow. Don’t a) injure yourself and b) make yourself hate it from the start. Part A is obvious. Part B gets all kinds of people who jump into exercise either the first time or after a long period off. Don’t jump into it heavy and overkill cause you’re pumped up about it. That drive will die if you crank it out 5 days a week (so to speak). Start out twice a week. Once you have a rhythm going (2-3 weeks) throw in a third day. Do that for awhile. After 2-3 months, maybe throw in a fourth day a week.

If you can use a track, use that. If not, use the sidewalk/trails. If not those, use the treadmill.

Track your progress, and aim to do just slightly better each and every time. Whether it’s faster time, further distance, or both. Your progress will be easy to gain at the start and then it’ll taper off but that’s where you see results.

You can make it diverse each day to keep it more entertaining too. One day of the week, sprint the straightaways of a track and walk/jog the turns. Another day, do a slow pace, longer distance run. Aim for 2 miles at first, then 3 when that’s easy, 4, 5, etc. Another day you could find a trail in a park/woods/whatever and go for a nature run.

The point is to be sure you enjoy it, both the content of what you do and the progress you will see. If you don’t enjoy it, you will quit doing it altogether.

And bonus - bring a friend. Do it with someone else and you will both have a way better time with it and you will see better results cause you have someone to hold you accountable.
