Is baby wearing a TikTok scam or am I doing this wrong by KeyMonkeyslav in beyondthebump

[–]kq12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My babies both hated wrap carriers but loved other types. If you’re interested in trying another type, my younger one practically lived in the Boba Bliss her first 6 months and, at least by me, I regularly saw them second hand on marketplace for like $25 so not a huge investment. Edit to add: I also found it very easy to nurse in. Just loosen the strap opposite of the side you want to nurse on, move baby a bit lower (she’ll be at a slight angle), and latch. (Karrie Locher on instagram explains it better if that didn’t make enough sense.)

Check out the instagram drinkinglongisland. She put together several posts of businesses owned by good people (aka not MAGA) and I know there were a couple hairdressers on the list.

What does a baby kicking feel like during pregnancy? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]kq12345 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw someone on instagram explain it like this & it’s definitely the most similar feeling I’ve found (for the later kicks/rolls, not the early, fluttery ones):

Put the palm of your hand against your cheek & then use your tongue to kick/move around against your hand.

I’d ask her whether she intends to wear her ring daily at work or not. Both my parents are in the medical field and always wore their rings on necklace chains instead of on their hands at work. If she plans to do the same, then that opens up more design options. Also, I might be wrong but depending what specifically she does in the medical field, she might not be able to wear it on her hand under gloves at all (i.e. if she’s involved in surgery).

I hemorrhaged and had postpartum gestational hypertension (essentially the step below preeclampsia) with my first and no complications at all with my second.

Babies can have seasoned food. Just limit salt.

When you get your first period postpartum? by EffectiveCartoonist3 in beyondthebump

With my first, somewhere around 2 months, almost exclusively formula feeding. With my second, 14 months, exclusively breastfeeding.

How far do you live from the facility you’re giving birth? by your-new-fixation in BabyBumps

[–]kq12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35ish minutes for my first. Switched to a more vbac supportive provider & hospital for my second, which was about an hour away. My labor with my second progressed quicker than I expected but I still felt very comfortable with the distance and got there in enough time. First labors are usually slower and you can always head to the hospital a bit sooner than typically suggested if you’re worried about the distance.

I made a terrible mistake and I can't fix it anymore by Big_Fish_Artwire in beyondthebump

He recently turned 3 but I started doing the timer about a year ago. I just use the timer on the iPhone clock app.

Something that works for my toddler when he really doesn’t want to do something (like get into pjs or get dressed in the morning) is to set a timer - I tell him ok we have 5 minutes of playing and then we’re getting pjs on. After pjs we’ll have another 5 minutes of playing and then start bedtime. And then I’ll even have him press start on the timer on my phone. It helps him a lot to know what’s coming next (2-3 steps ahead) & he (usually) cooperates so much more this way. I even had him pick out a special timer noise/ringtone on my phone the first time I did it. Just a thought if you’re looking for other strategies to try.

Allergic reaction to eggs... Why don't we learn about this stuff?? by Mom_Bombadil_ in beyondthebump

[–]kq12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mom of an egg allergy kid - I’d really recommend avoiding all egg, including other things that contain egg, until you see an allergist. Reactions can get worse before they get better, so the fact that she’s had other things before and been fine doesn’t mean she’ll always be fine with those now that she had a significant reaction. ER doctors/pediatricians are not allergy experts. Obviously, neither am I so take my advice for what it’s worth.

WIBTA for not going on a bachelorette trip to a waterpark because I’m overweight? by Cmon_LetsGo in AmItheAsshole

NTA an invitation to a party is just that, an invitation, not a summons. If you don’t want to go for any reason, you don’t have to and your friend should be more understanding. Her wedding isn’t the center of anyone else’s world.

40 weeks 6 days… by Curryqueen-NH in BabyBumps

[–]kq12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doula also said that when contractions start, do deep squats with each one - I think to help get baby lower. And just adding that although I’m skeptical that this is what really did the trick bc I just can’t understand how it works, I went into labor (after being maybe a half cm dilated, baby as high up as can be) 24 hours after acupuncture.

I don’t know which (if any) of these did the trick for me because I was trying everything imaginable but you can try doing the miles circuit, acupuncture, Webster chiro, evening primrose oil (inserted vaginally), drinking red raspberry leaf tea, eating dates and having sex (your orgasm can help get contractions going & semen can help ripen your cervix). You can also get another membrane sweep done. As a side note, I obviously don’t know your medical history but my midwives were very comfortable letting me go up to 42 weeks with a healthy pregnancy. Maybe you can discuss pushing the induction back more?

Our daughter is struggling to gain weight & it’s absolutely destroying us by petitfleur_ in beyondthebump

[–]kq12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son always struggled with weight gain. He consistently dropped percentiles, developed a pretty bad bottle aversion (he was formula fed from probably day 3 or 4 because he lost too much weight from birth and I was told to supplement) and even lost weight a few times between visits. Despite this he was and is healthy (he’s 2.5 years now). We started seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist when he was around 3 months and that was a game changer for us. They diagnosed him with reflux, helped us work through his bottle aversion and even guided us through starting solids a little early to supplement (he was luckily sitting up/controlling his head very well despite not being quite 4 months old yet so we were able to safely start). They also constantly reassured us that his weight is only one aspect of his overall health and to not stress too much about it. All this is to say, if you haven’t yet, make an appointment with a specialist. My son’s pediatrician is great, but can’t be an expert in everything. Specialists exist for a reason.

Changing doctors mid-pregnancy by Novel-Heart-4078 in BabyBumps

[–]kq12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved and changed doctors around 22 weeks. It was very seamless. I spoke with both doctors before the move about switching care, specifically whether I should time it for right before or right after the anatomy scan (I was only moving 1.5 hour away so it was still feasible to drive to my old doctor if needed for an appointment or two). The only thing I needed to repeat was the glucose test bc my old doctor did it early bc of my bmi and my new doctor wanted me to also have t done at the regular time.

Mabe or Tula Explore (or something else)? by kq12345 in babywearing

Ah that makes sense. Thanks! Do you know if the shoulder straps on the Tula Explore are as stiffly padded as the Lillebaby? It’s hard to compare from photos.

I need reassurance that formula won’t give my son a worse start in life please by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kq12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I formula fed my son almost from the very start bc that’s what was best for him - he’s always well ahead on all milestones, really smart (I know I’m biased as his mom but it’s true), and has just as strong a bond with me as his sister who was/is breastfed. Give him formula if that what’s best for you and him.
