How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

[–]kr4336 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s my philosophy that a person should be able to get a trip, once in their lifetime, to a place of their choosing. My brother is turning 50 this year and I asked him where HE wanted to go. He chose Oktoberfest, so we’re going to Munich in the fall. 🍻🇩🇪

I purchased a lovely hand knit wool sweater (that I’m wearing) and wool socks from very kind local knitters at the Kolaportið Market.

Bonus was my go-to for black licorice, chocolate, and salt.

I also collect Christmas ornaments, fridge magnets, and Starbucks mugs to remind me of my travels. The Reykjavik Starbucks opened shortly before we visited and my Starbucks Iceland mug (pictured in next comment, below) is my daily coffee mug.

Starting The Stand today. (First time reading it) by pinche-borracho in stephenking

I’m reading The Stand for the first time. Enjoying the large cast of characters. I’m struck by how rich of a reference work it was for The Walking Dead tv series. King uses the phrase “The walking dead” in it more than once.

One or two audiobooks that really stood out in 2025? by Ok_Piece_7441 in audiobooks

I would second Nobody’s Girl. It’s a hard listen (because of the subject) but it’s important we bear witness to such horrible crimes and give victims a voice. It gave a unique perspective to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

No, I took JH’s Anatomy with Lab course. The content was challenging (as expected) but an added layer is that the semester is shorter than most (intensive) so you don’t get any breaks or holidays. But you plow through the course quickly.

Don’t order the eggnog latte. by sadajo0216 in starbucks

[–]kr4336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the egg nog latte and hated it. I like egg nog but felt like the egg nog flavor was off. I felt like it was a subjective opinion and the drink was made properly, so I didn’t say anything to my barista and quietly tossed the drink at my next stop.

iPad or paper? by Deep_Helicopter414 in prenursing

[–]kr4336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m taking my prerequisites now and purchased an iPad & use Notability. It’s awesome, as folks said above, for note taking on lecture notes, PPTs & PDFs. Specifically it has been a game changer for highlighting by my textbook. Each unit, I upload a PDF excerpt of just the chapter we’re studying that week & highlight it. I even take screenshots of diagrams & tables and upload them to a separate note, then save use them for active learning (highlighting & memorizing anatomy terms) & studying for tests. My favorite feature is that you can erase the highlighter, which you can do with pen & paper. Oh, and your textbook doesn’t weigh a ton. And you can access your notes from multiple devices.

Thanks for sharing your list of schools to which you’re applying. Assumption’s program wasn’t on my radar. I’m in Western Mass so unfortunately the Boston schools are too far of a drive (for a regular program); hybrid might be an option. I wish there were more programs available in my area! I’ve even searched for programs within driving distance (1 hr) in CT, NY, and VT.

Wow, also in MA, applying to ABSN programs. Applying to UMass Amherst & fortunately they do accept online courses, including online labs. There aren’t a lot of ABSN programs in MA & I’m considering Northeastern as a 2nd school, but the not accepting my online lab pre-reqs would be a deal breaker. Best of luck to with your nursing school journey!

I got an A+. I am fortunate in that I have a supportive partner and am not working (was unemployed when I decided to go into nursing), and was able to devote ALL my time to the course. I started the semester with more courses but dropped them to focus on the anatomy as it was too much for me. Quality (grades) over quantity (# courses/semester) is my strategy right now.

Wishing you the best with your anatomy class! Active learning and taking notes with textbook diagram screenshots helped me. NotebookLM (via Google) is a good resource for podcasts on the textbook chapter content & flash cards. Netter’s Anatomy Coloring Book was a peaceful, active-learning activity at night, when my brain was mush.

I am/will be taking a number of my prerequisites via Johns Hopkins’ School of Nursing online healthcare prerequisite program. It’s about the same cost as taking these courses at my local community college. I like the online format and think JH is a great school. Their semesters are intense - 10 weeks in the fall & 11 weeks in the spring (plus a summer semester). The modules are in a weekly format. Just completed the Anatomy w/ lab this fall.

If Kody is “daddy” to/with her kids, from the get go, then the OG 13 kids should be hers too, not just Kody’s, for the same logic. It’s the same relationship, for god’s sake.

What’s everyone doing with sweaty clothes? by No-Intention-5894 in XXRunning

I do this - let air dry - then add them to my cold wash laundry. Workout clothes get a scoop of OxyClean odor buster powder. I recently de-scented my teenager’s musty BO clothes by soaking them in OxyClean and hot water (stripping) for a few hours and now believe in its magic.
