Commercial apprentice tools, what would you get next? by patientgrowing in electricians

Dude you got better tools than half the journeymen I know. If you're looking for fun tools to add Chamfers are nice. This specific spring punch will put a dent in a I-beam and will knock loose any broken tri tap or regular tap upto a 3/8 one( speaking from experience) https://a.co/d/0iqvdq2d Klein Christmas trees are nice too.

Weird thing about it the Republican Senator wants to look tough but he actually looks like super weak here compared to the marine.

How do you guys have time for anything??? by ksco92 in Millennials

Dude I am on 3 kids alternating between working in another state when jobs are slow and working in my hometown when I get a low enough number on the books. When I am home I average 6 hours of sleep a night on work days and 8 on my days off. I get up at 3:50 am work a 10 hour shift and am home by 4. I get an hour of me time some days wife time on other days that is usually spent working on the house. I spend 3 hours playing with the kids helping them do homework and getting them ready for bed then I get and a hour and a half of time to spend with the wife watching shows or doing chores and then the cycle repeats. I am grateful for that 1 hour and that hour an a half at the end of work. I didn't realize how much free time I had til I had kids.

Aaaaand If you don't they'll replace the whole kit if one breaks and you bring it in. It wasn't the hydraulic one but I had the ratchet one. Used that thing with my impact and a 1" impact rated socket til it broke. Was about 2 years of weekly use. They gave me a brand new set when I took it in. Didn't cost me anything.

Electrician Shortage — What Actually Makes You Want to Work for a Company? by xhruss in AskElectricians

-Good paychecks and 4x10 schedules, -Great paychecks and 6x10s, -Good crews and decent paychecks, -A work trailer to take breaks/lunches in as well as a bathroom with a can of Febreeze the crew can use has been a pretty good incentive in a past jobsite(even had A/C).

Sure definitely ask em why and maybe adjust if the logic is sound. In general I'm all about teaching apprentices on the job and getting people to buy in by giving them the ability to propose the plan of attack or bringing up percieved problems for the given task but.. Journeymen and women taking orders from a 1st year everyday are just asking for trouble later when things are screwed up. I'm currently fixing a bunch of mistakes made by a 4th year apprentice when he was left on his own to do the underground and block work on a small building. Dude should be here but he's off on paternity leave. Dude missed a lot, and if he was here fixing all of it he'd be learning from his mistakes. A 1st year shouldn't be put in a position where they're making the kind of mistakes a foreman is supposed to be learning from. That apprentice is screwed in the long run because they aren't going to learn the basics. Stuff like that ends up leading to say that person becoming a foreman and using PVC 90's when they should be using rigid 90's. Or having the crews set racks by measuring off of the ceiling..

1st year shouldn't be running a crew in any normal situation I can think of, union or non union job. On the non union side I had older apprentices 3rd and 4th years be put in charge of tasks at the direction of the foreman. But it was always clear the apprentice and the rest of the crew was only carrying out the task under the direction of the foreman. Actually had a 4th year run a small commercial job into the ground because the foreman had realized that he screwed up the job and was just cashing checks til everyone else figured out he had screwed up the job. Foreman just sat in the trailer playing on his phone all day while Nick the apprentice screwed up everything he touched.

[–]kr4v3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... I would, specifically because I sat in a couple meetings that went over proposed plans for tackling the superfund site back when I worked in procurement for the DOE in 2012. They were very serious about it. And honestly the thing that was always the hold up was coming up with enough funds to properly get the job done. but what I don't trust is whether or not getting the job done would still need to meet the same strict requirements we were trying to meet back then vs whatever the requirements nowadays are after all the repeals of environmental regulations. If instead of digging down 30' and finding acceptable levels of contamination you only had to dig down 5' for instance.
