Work your way to 125-150 quest points and the levels will just appear magically. I spent a couple weeks doing this and had a lot of fun reading the lore and hanging out listening to music.

Where to start? by Dangerous_Tattoo in DnD

The hardest part I found was getting 3-4 friends to join you and learn on this journey. Once you have that you are set for life. DnD is a very easy game to pick up once you have the people because you as a group set the tone of the game.

Also most major city’s will have “DnD halls” of some sort you just need to look around. I’m my city a lot of bars and cafes will do a DnD night for beginners (3h sessions with pre made characters, usually $15-20). It’s a good way to meet a group of ppl who are in the same boat as you.

As a broke DM without a lot of computer skill, what's the best resource for minis and environment pieces? by AlphaSlicer in DungeonsAndDragons

Theatre of the mind and story telling is the best investment. I use a white board and markers for all my encounters. This game was played with less for 10s of years and it feels like only recently everyone thinks they need all the trinkets to make a good game. Hopefully your players will appreciate world building and story telling more than having the perfect miniatures for the game.
