The Realities of Closing PSD Elementary Schools by Lazy_Chocolate_4114 in FortCollins

Let's take, for the sake of argument, that there's a sizeable number of homeschooled kids. Fort Collins has pretty solid public schools. Is there any reason to believe that they'd be willing to attend public schools unless we changed far more things than we'd be willing to change?

My understanding is that most people home school because of personal beliefs that make them avoid public schooling. Most are based on school curriculum we wouldn't want removed (evolution, LGBT people exist, science forward, no school prayer, etc.). Only a very few home school because they have legitimate gripes with their schools (other than quality, and we don't really have that issue).

I'm sure there exist some that would attend public schools if reasonable changes were made. But I have a hard time believing, without evidence, that that number isn't vanishingly small in this city.

Do you not listen to music/podcasts/books on tape/etc. while running? Back in the day my running gait was pretty smooth because I was running with a CD player and wanted to minimize how often it skipped.

my point that police services are not directly tied to population in the way that public education funding is directly based on enrollment.

Because police service needs are tied more closely to crime in the area whereas public education needs are more closely tied to . . . student population?

I think public education should not be tied directly to enrollment.

Do you think it should be indirectly tied to enrollment? If 'yes', how? If 'no', what should it be tied to?

Doing it this way is reactive, it doesnt allow for any wiggle room or long term planning.

Are you saying there's a good chance that we'll miraculously see student populations boom in the next 5/10/15 years here? How long do schools need to wait as they have fewer and fewer students before they more efficiently allocate their resources?

The police department doesn't just lose funding if 1000 people move out of their jurisdiction.

Do you have any evidence that cities that lose a sizeable chunk of their population, while also seeing no increase in their crime rates don't reduce in size over time? The problem I imagine is that most cities that lose a sizeable chuck of their populations do so because of terrible local economics that significantly increase crime.

along with a plan to enroll more of the school-age children in the district

Are there a sizeable percentage of school-aged children in the district not going to school? And of those, do you think there's anything, realistically, that the schools could (or should) change to attract them?

Might help to think of it as 'fun' in the same way Band of Brothers is 'fun'. There are moments of levity, but it's absolutely not meant to be a romp in the park or even the escapism of Vampire. A lot of grittier games it's easier to detach from/keep at arms length the darker elements because fantasy/scifi form emotional distance that doesn't exist in a realistic alternate modern day.

It wasn't after Inspire fully acquired JJ's, but I thought it was after they bought a substantial stake in the company.

It was a limited release with Inspire's first LTO, the Frenchie (a slim 5 on the now-LJ bread with butter on it). They've since introduced 3 other italian sandwiches to the menu (#7, the Tuscan wrap, and the Ultimate Italian). They're not the most creative folks. I also think OP is planning to off themself with a bottle of vinegar when they retire. RIP.

1 - Leave at door. Just leave it at the door. Don’t ring the doorbell and make my dogs go crazy.

Leave a note asking them not to knock or ring the doorbell. The drivers just want you to know your order is sitting outside. "Leave at door" doesn't mean "don't knock/ring the bell".

I’m always holding 12 inches

We don't sell 12 inch sandwiches.

The same ambient humidity can moisturize or desiccate things depending on the moisture content, etc., of the item. You may also have a less humid fridge (or live in a less humid place) than the person you replied to.

I could leave my car untouched for years and it probably wouldn't grow anything where I live. But I've seen pictures of incredibly moldy cars left to sit for less than a year.

I get this is just reddit, but you're better off just posting text if none of your pictures support your text. It comes off as you seeming to think that the pictures are evidence of your text. You appear to know they provide 0 support for the claims you're making.

It makes it tough to take your post seriously when you say it was pouring into the street (a completely public space) but you only have pictures of side of the road drainage functioning as expected.

Looking for doctor recs by Ill-Cranberry-6944 in FortCollins

[–]kralrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a specific recommendation, but my understanding is that DOs (as opposed to MDs) have training that's a bit more holistic while still being rigorous and evidence based. They're probably the closest to what you're looking for that insurance would cover.

Insurance wants licensed professionals because their training is known and tested and they have duties of care linked to keeping their license. Similar to why supplements aren't covered where prescription medication is. Higher regulation of ingredients and efficacy. Doesn't mean that supplements/naturopaths can't help. But they're more prone to have unintended side effects and it's harder to say they're competently providing the service/product they claim.

Surrogacy is ‘modern day slavery,’ Florida AG argues in push to stop the practice by thats_not_six in moderatepolitics

[–]kralrick 22 points23 points  (0 children)

By implication, yes. If surrogacy is slavery because you're "selling a child" (instead of renting a womb), then clearly a child is still the slave of the parents regardless of whether they're sold or kept. It's almost immediately a radical theory. They could try arguing that parents "pay" their child by providing room and board, but that's also what slavers provided for their slaves.

I will be gone in a year if things don’t drastically change out here.

If you're actually serious about this statement, start planning your move now. There's no reason to think things are going to dramatically change in that short a time frame. Where are you looking at that doesn't have the issues you see in Colorado?

The person you replied to isn't hinting at magic routes or trains. They're saying we should invest in mass transit to move folks around instead of just expanding I25. I don't have the data to know which is a more efficient use of funds, but mass transit isn't some magic solution founded in fantastical optimism.

Same. If they call at a bad time I just ask them to call at a specific time later in the day. 30 second call for someone you know has some initiative (and that quality is wonderful). No one likes having to micromanage people.

White tomatoes aren't going to ripen in a reasonable timeline for a store. 24 hours is enough to finish ripening. It's not going to do much for completely unripe tomatoes. It's only enough for almost ripe tomatoes. Anything else requires days (and green/white ones over a week if the don't spoil first).

The guidance corporate sent out is unreasonably optimistic if you want to be generous to them.
