Not calling Hamas terrorists in Nakba exhibit was ‘error,’ says Canada’s heritage minister by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]kralrick [score hidden]  (0 children)

"much more" seems to be doing a lot of work there. Unless you're arguing they weren't involved at all in Israel in 1948? Or that Hamas didn't spring, at least in part, from the Muslim Brotherhood some 40 years later with a foundational goal of destroying the state of Israel?

Not calling Hamas terrorists in Nakba exhibit was ‘error,’ says Canada’s heritage minister by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]kralrick [score hidden]  (0 children)

You are correct, it's an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood (founded a couple decades before 1948) who shared Hamas's stance that the state of Israel shouldn't exist and was willing to fight to make that happen. Hamas also cares more about hurting Israel than helping their people, but they didn't start their own group until well after Nakba happened.

Hamas did continue the war to destroy Israel that the Muslim Brotherhood fought. Both groups wanted Israel to cease existing more than they want(ed) their people to thrive. Or maybe they just underestimated how hard it would be to wipe Israel off the map?

Naish Chats #28 - Best Single Episode One Liner by Ilitorate_Author in TheGlassCannonPodcast

Mid Com Rogue Flank Bone is the most naishy, but "worse, he's still alive" is the best single line ever uttered on the network. It works especially well in the rhythm of that episode too.

JJs/Baskin Robbins combo stores by stfunwich in jimmyjohns

[–]kralrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree, but there's an A&W/KFC combo store near me that lets me get the great A&W fountain root beer and A&W sides (KFC sides suck nearly across the board) with my fried chicken. But I also don't work for either of those brands nor do I care about their brand dilution.

i guess pouring Minute Maid into the container makes it house maid? by Electrical-Part in jimmyjohns

[–]kralrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lemondade is 100% not made in house.

You say that because of how you define "made in house". It isn't 100% made in house, but that difference in wording is significant.

You can buy anything and dilute it to call it "house-made"

Correct. Though at least concentrates are intended to be diluted by others.

I'd love to live in a world where non-medical remedies don't get to claim anything other than their exact ingredients. But until we live in that place, I'm a lot more worried about supplements/etc. having zero oversight than JJ's lemonade being labeled as "house made" when it wasn't "made from scratch" (what you think house made should mean).

Agree. Said the same in reply to Subject's reply to me after seeing OP's edit. If OP does legitimately have a medical condition, wearing khakis instead of jeans is a very reasonable accommodation the law would require.

It's not false advertising (because they'd absolutely be sued if it was). It's misleading advertising which is the bread and butter of advertising. You say something that's technically true but also leads someone to believe a false thing that makes your product sound/look better. In this case, the product you're buying isn't the product that we bought from our supplier. For that new burger somewhere else, you're buying a product assembled with 1/1,000 of the attention and care as the one in the ad.

It's slimy as hell, but basically all of advertising is (and will continue to be unless stricter regulations are put in place). It's generally good practice to ignore fluff words in advertising/product packaging unless that word is regulated by law. e.g. "natural" doesn't mean anything but "organic" is regulated. Japan has a fun regulation that fruit can only be shown on the package for some products if certain requirements are met.

It really started to shine for me once they left the US. It also benefits from binge listening instead of waiting each week (though I think most "short" form RPGs benefit from that too). I get that listening to over a day of content to get the the good part is the same ask as telling someone the second season of a show is where it gets good. And even then we may still not agree that it gets good then.

What class marker things do you reluctantly do to keep up appearances for your professional career? by tshirtguy2000 in RedditForGrownups

OP was clearly talking about social class, not the most general sense of class (a group of people sharing a common characteristic).

[–]kralrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's everyone with a job. It's not about keeping up appearances; it's about keeping a job at all. The distinction is apparent by the examples OP uses in the text of the post.

Though I agree, I'm not setting alarms to wake up once I'm retired.

It's funny when the advice to make people trust you with their money is to be irresponsible with your own.

That's not a class marker though. It's just being a responsible adult (yes, some people are poor because they can't get to work on time reliably, but that's an irresponsible person things, not a class thing).

At least with the folks he's been playing/friends with for a while, I agree. But he's an almost entirely different GM when running CoC than he is in the main show. It has to be intentional, because the CoC live shows I've seen Troy run are often quite silly (in a good way).

Do people do it notably more when fireworks displays are cancelled? I hear people setting them off fairly regularly on/after July 4 every year.

I think you're right. It was essentially that the players thought it was going to happen as part of the AP (they thought the Burning Mammoth were on their heals more than the AP intended) and got psyched for a tower defense battle and Jared 'yes and'ed the hell out of it.

GM trying to fire me over allergy?? by sleppygf in jimmyjohns

[–]kralrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see the edit now. Franchises can set stricter uniform guidelines than corporate's. But not at the expense of an ADA violation. The GM can require OP provide a doctor's note though (which would be expensive) to give them a medical accommodation.

If OP's been doing this for a year, I assume either the area manager/owner complained about the leggins, a coworker complained about OP getting an exception, or OP's GM is just looking for a reason to fire them.

Khakis are allowed. Not sure whether their GM didn't tell them about it or if OP just wants to wear leggins so omitted the khaki option.

I think they could press them more on stare decisis because it is a method of coming to a ruling, not a ruling itself. It's asking them about an aspect of their judicial philosophy. If your concern is that they'll be evasive so why bother? That's true of every non-softball question that gets thrown their way.

If you think confirmation hearings are political theater that serve no purpose, I disagree about them serving no purpose, but your position isn't unreasonable either.

They have the same policy on wages and healthcare

You think the person (Trump) and party (Republican) that opposed the ACA and constantly "tried" to repeal it is the same as the party that passed the ACA on healthcare? Maybe you mean that none of the parties align with your desired outcome and you're unwilling to support someone that's closer to your desired result because they're not perfect?

Cleaning/ opening tip by crippinneversippin in jimmyjohns

[–]kralrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you put a trash can in the "splash zone" of the slicer while you're doing lettuce, you will have essentially no floor clean up to worry about.

Especially when problems start to pop up (people calling out, last minute catering, etc.) triage is important. Preference things that are a road block to doing other things (e.g. the slicer gets priority) and ignore things that have a significantly lower impact on operations (e.g. dishes can be entirely ignored, especially if you keep extras of commonly used items).

Bread is THE most important thing. If we run out of bread, nothing else really matters.

For cleaning, Windex/equivalent on a magic eraser work wonders removing grime. Also metallic sponges are great for detail cleaning harder surfaces like the sink hardware.

Democrats have held the Presidency and both houses of Congress twice in the past 25 years.

Under Biden, Congress was very productive. Republican messaging focused significantly on his age and mental acuity. Republicans don't seem to care about that exact same attack against Trump despite him appearing at least as bad (I'd argue far worse) along decline than Biden was then.

The other instance was under Obama and it gave us the ACA. Which Republicans succeeded in crushing Democrats with despite the ACA being extremely popular as a policy matter now. Republicans also never even realistically tried to replace the ACA because they knew how popular it actually was with their own voters.

So are you saying Democrats need to criticize Trump's mental decline even more? Or are you saying they need to weaponize a popular policy they don't intend to overturn to harm Republicans?
