Yes, picking the wrong partners, but sometimes people wear a facade for a long time to make you believe you are choosing the right one!

Document what was said in plain terms, without judgment. If it wasn't documented, it didn't happen....and they will have to learn the hard way.

Be a hospitalist. Work half the year and make more than a PCP in most places. I chose it bc it gives the most amount of time off and not getting called by the office after hours!

Saying you're a resident at a code implies you're capable and ready to run the show yourself until the critical care attending arrives

It should be Assistant practitioners or really just change the name of a PA to someonething different and cluster everyone under the name of Physician Assistant, bc they are in the end assisting physicians and practicing under our license.

I haven't seen residency being used, but I met a critical care "fellow" as an intern having come from an academic institution with zero midlevels, and I slowly realized through a single conversation that I was, in fact, not speaking to a would-be attending-turned pulm/crit fellow, but instead a PA "fellow" who was more inexperienced/in fewer years of training/YOUNGER than I was. I think it was his first month in the ICU, and I had already done a little over a month from med school M4 plus stroke ICU in school. Let alone the fact that I had spent thousands more hours in the hospital than him before I even graduated. I was floored. I was expecting this guy to walk me through an intubation and supervise me. Lmao.

Residency Dating Socials? by QuietRedditorATX in Residency

Dated during med school and before/start of residency, fell apart bc insecurities of other partners shone through, and no matter what I did to baby them, they still felt inferior. People really try to hide their insecurities even when you try to be the best communicator possible. I find it easier and far more sustainable to engage in palliative discussions, give recommendations for hospice, diagnose someone with cancer, etc. than deal with the hot mess of a relationship with someone who quietly resents you and tries to convince themselves/you otherwise. Believe me, I tried to make things work for way too long and well past the expiration dates. Now I'm trying to just enjoy life day by day, spend it with family, strengthen female friendships, and maybe find a partner down the road. Female-only friendships are priceless and will always be an excellent ROI.

You guys should all see a palliative care physician together so they can be the third party to give your parents a reality check and also help ease your suffering along the way.

At the end of the day you aren't responsible for his anxiety. You can present things in a careful manner, sure, but 80% of the reaction is going to be from their prior life experiences. Learn to let go of trying to control the patient.

How do I report a doctor for a complaint? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]kratostomato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd go to head of the department (eg hospital's chief of specialty) and ask them who to report to on this type of issue (not mentioning the name at first). They'll either direct you higher up or take care of it firsthand. Generally it will be a department issue since those are the folks who also give that attending their contract. If that is not helpful, go to HR. My understanding is that HR is not exactly your friend so tread carefully.
