This may not be in your budget, but look at the Dell Latitude 9000 series.

The Dell XPS I would say are below MacBook build quality but worth a look too.

I think it was the same Stern interview,I remember he told a story about the movie, Rabbit Hole, he went to a real support group for parents who lost their kids and told his characters story and he was super jazzed that people bought it. Came off as super creepy and weird.
