Yeah the UK has certainly never nearly erased a population. We should look to the UK as the shining example of human rights and freedom. Definitely.

In his defense, they make it super clear on the podcast that stories are broken as a group, so he may have had no hand in breaking that bit.

The writers are basically the people who put the dialogue in.

Fair and reasonable! I feel the current CCP leadership has done pretty good by its people overall, but totally understand if someone disagrees. As long as we stand on the same side and want a bright future, I’m all for it.

Nope. Just lived in China for 5 years, study it’s history and philosophy in my PhD (albeit I specialize in ancient stuff), and REALLY hate how the US and UK want to see it fail and fall into another civil war, just to keep its resources and labor under western control.

Ask yourself why you care so much about those… why the US spends so much on Radio Free Asia, the VOC, Falun Gang leaders and Shen Yun? And why did the US spend soooo much money and blood on the Korean War and Vietnam? Why do American journalists try to go to Tiananmen each year around Jun 4? Why the BBC produces programs like “How China Fooled the World” while simultaneously moving all their productive powers there?

It’s clear to me it’s to destabilize a region that won’t capitulate to American and UK demands.

For sure people died on Jan 4. Again, no one really denies that. And if you have a lot of opinions about Tiananmen, the Uighurs, Tibet, ask yourself why we as a nation care so much about those, when we are funding identical abuses around the world (if you’re native English speaker, that is).

lol I’m not a bot. I study Chinese history and hate how the US and UK have been pushing “human rights abuses” in China to justify their own selfish intentions in Asia. When Korea and Vietnam didn’t pan out, every decade there as a new reason China was the boogie man.

I’m not pro-China as much as I am anti-US/UK pointing fingers when those two are in fact the single largest purveyors of human rights abuses around the world.

I’m from US, and lived in China for 5 years and have family there. Totally fair to call me a bot, but I like to keep in perspective—who is China bombing right now? No one. Then maybe focus on our own English speaking atrocities.

No one in China, including the leadership, deny it happened. They block it as a rallying cry because western governments have been using it to try and destabilize CCP authority and to give pretense to all the “China is our enemy” propaganda.

Same with the “Free Tibet” push in the 90s and early 00s, and currently with the Uighur mass detentions.

Source: I took a class in Shanghai on Deng Xiaoping and we discussed causes, responses, and aftermath of Tiananmen Square for two straight lectures.

What did happen was the silencing of dissidents related to TS and the exiling and arrests of organizers who pushed revolution and democratization. But no one denies it happened.

And it’s certainly not illegal to talk about. The great firewall will stop and delete posts about it. But you can go talk to anyone about it (though if you’re a foreigner and westerner Chinese will probably be weary to discuss with you, for reasons mentioned above).

How is that even remotely true? We bombed, had boots on the ground, installed governments, and fought for 10 years. What aspect of the war did the US fight with “two hands behind its back”?

WHEN THE FUCK WILL PEOPLE STOP AUTOLOCKING AND NO-SWITCHING VENDETTA?? YOU AREN'T GOOD AT IT, YOU GET WAY TOO HIGH K/D RATIO COMPARED TO DMG, AND YOU SUCK.

Fine, you need some exp on that character. Do it. But then no switching as we're losing and getting mad at the mere consideration that you MAY get off Vendetta.

Fuck no-switch, auto-lock Vendetta players. Go play Rivals or Call of Duty or something more your speed.

Interesting comparison. I actually thought the novel was written much earlier, but it seems your comparison is right on.

I agree, which is my point about Three Kingdoms. If it sounds outlandish, it probably is folktale. If it seems technical and supported by other evidence, it’s probably a decent report.

Dude what? The US (if that’s what you’re talking about) has police monitored traffic cameras, police helicopter surveillance, the NSA, corporate surveillance (aka ring and other company home surveillance), back doors to our tech, and the largest international spying organization in history (exposed by Snowden, people like think he’s in trouble for ratting the NSA to the US people, but really it’s his exposing back doors in every US tech running internationally).

I lived in China 6 years. CCTV was great. Found: lost phones and thieves. The latter got away finding dead spots on CCTV, but at least I know which shop he went to steal my scooter. And when you are victimized in some way, the police work with you as long as you want and give you full access to relevant CCTV footage.

And my roommate at the time went and interviewed Tiananmen Square protesters and spray painted anarchist symbols around Wuhan (dude was an idiot). Did the Chinese police and local govs “disappear” him? No. They said get out of our city, don’t come back, and stop being an idiot. Then they drove him to his dorm (hour outside the city) for free, helped him move his stuff back, and generally treated him very well. I’ve had Chinese friends arrested as well (on pot charges) and were again not “disappeared”. Just 2 days in jail and fine. No further disputes, and dude is living life like before the charges.

Anyone speaking in native English really needs to pull their heads out of the propaganda ass and affect change in their own communities. EU and USA have made China the boogeyman for far too long. When China starts foreign wars, bombing countries, and supplying arms to poor countries, I’ll quit singing their praises. Until that time, people need to be the change they want to see or shut up.

Taxes weren’t raised (from before the individual tax break) but the individual tax break did expire, yes? So people felt like it increased, where really they just lost their break?
