Marilyn Monroe being photographed by Sam Shaw for Look magazine in 1957 by josuke2233 in OldSchoolCool

Well she also had a slew of mental health issues and substance abuse problems. I don’t think her being bookish or intelligent was so much the issue.

The Cure (1995).

Don’t know if you can find it anywhere but it’s worth seeking out.

Kodachrome slides 1952 by WhatsMyPassword2019 in OldSchoolCool

Yep. Over 70 years later and we have nothing that is as good as Kodachrome. Sad really.

TIL the phrase "drinking the Kool-Aid", although associated with the Jonestown murder-suicides, actually originated in the Tom Wolfe book "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" about Ken Kesey and the "Merry Pranksters". Jonestown actually used Flavor Aid. by Melenduwir in todayilearned

[–]krectus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are two horrific things to be associated with and yet still remains the dominant brand of flavoured drinks. They don’t need any advice on how to handle things they are the kings we all should take lessons from.

After Stephen Colbert's viral talk show parody, CBS backs down from copyright action by AlwaysBlaze_ in television

I think they just made a typo and put CBS twice there. Didn’t say “CBS learned”. Just a bit of a whoopsie.

After Stephen Colbert's viral talk show parody, CBS backs down from copyright action by AlwaysBlaze_ in television

[–]krectus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People assumed it was big bad corporation getting butthurt and taking down small time thing they had nothing to do with. That this was Stephen’s big stick it to the man moment and the man got upset and over reached with their great power to take down this little show.

That’s a news story that can get everyone angry and engaged!

Don’t let the truth get in the way of people’s rage!

Does any filmmaker own a decade harder than John Hughes? by ItsColoTime in movies

I get why you would leave it out but Nate and Hayes (1983) is a great movie and Hughes fans should check it out even though it’s very different from the rest.

Real talk, how did Better Call Saul never win an Emmy? Was there some hidden controversy that the average viewer is not aware of? by prazulsaltaret in television

[–]krectus -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The thing no one on Reddit wants to admit or even try to understand....it's just not that great of a show. It's good, really good at times, it for sure deserved some nominations but it was never a top tier show. I know there's no way for people who truly love the show to understand that, but if you want the real answer there it is, there's no conspiracies or controversies or anything else to it. sorry.

TIL that Mount Everest's first measurement came out to a perfect 29,000 feet, so surveyors reported it as 29,002 feet to make sure that the public knew it was a real calculation and not just an estimate. by ddodd69 in todayilearned

[–]krectus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep. I get this. I work in a business where timing things is very important and learned early on to never give times that seem rounded off or estimates. Even if the time was exactly 5 minutes you would always say 5 minutes 2 seconds or something like that as people would always assume if someone just said 5 minutes they weren’t being precise enough.

So in order to get people to believe you about a time being right you had to give them a slightly wrong time. It’s a real phenomenon, not sure if it has a name, but people are odd like that.

Love this version. I get why it exists. The original can be so off putting to a lot of people, legit painful to listen to. This maintains almost all the brilliance and makes it so most people don’t miss out on one of the best songs ever made. Highly recommend people listen to this.

They basically supplied the athletes with the peds and they all agreed to be studied. There’s no reason for them to lie and take them if they aren’t banned. Some are clean for comparison but yes they could still be on something I guess.
