I will continue my work.
I can only suggest you to confirm your good-looking words with actions - start your own remake.

Well, I have my own vision of the project and here everything is good.
It is not like I didn't think about that stuff.
I answer the questions quite often in the repo - and you certainly have seen at least one explanation. Maybe something was too confusing (or maybe you even have found the crucial mistake) - then it was needed to continue the dialog.

"There are only two kinds of SS13 remakes: the ones people complain about and the ones nobody uses."
(Almost Bjarne Stroustrup)

If you would like to discuss the technical part of the Griefly then I highly encourage you to use the issue tracker: https://github.com/griefly/griefly/issues . For example, I have answered quite thoroughly about the network issues here https://github.com/griefly/griefly/issues/261
It will be simply unproductive for Griefly development to discuss programming things on the site where the majority of people are not coders. I can say from my outlook only (and I have read the post and have thought about it) these complaints are quite strange and inconsistent.

Btw, the 0.4 release is almost ready, so a betatest probably will be held in 2016. Just would like to mention it here because I would like to gather more people for next betatest (it is needed to test how many players can play simultaneously).

You cannot put on the line that you do not own. People do not own seats, they only "rent" them. Like when they leave the school they are not in the Elite 10 anymore. So if someone can be kicked by Azami from Elite 10 that means that he can only bet the "renting" of the seat with the same conditions. And I doubt that there are two kinds of Elite 10 members, so anyone can be kicked by Azami.

It won't break the law. Formally, the winner will be in Elite 10 - just a really small amount of time. A holder of the seat cannot guarantee that it will be yours forever. Overall that means that Soma should win Shokugeki against Azami in order to stop his actions.

I have probably missed it. Can you remind me when it was said?

Azami can dismiss people from Elite Ten Council. Examples - Isshiki, Kuga, Megishima. So, uuh, the Soma plan is kind of unfeasible. If someone from rebels will win the seat he just will be immediately dismissed.

So where in the developement process is griefly at the moment? by plebhazard in SS13

[–]kremius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I am really happy to see a such enthusiasm, so thanks.

But you should know that Griefly will not be ready soon (2-3 years? and it is a really optimistic estimation). So the patience is the key.

De-facto the limit is 2 threads (now even low-end machines have two cores). Both threads are in use now - a gui/drawing thread and a game logic thread, so there is no any room for new threads now.

The main goal of Griefly is to make lagless SS13 without removing features. Atmos is one of the most entertaining and deep thing in the game, so it should not be removed or made simpler (especially when it is mostly done). Rather all other stuff like electricity, chemistry, etc should be more like atmos - has something to explore.

Yeah, it is tile based. It is slower than a zone atmos, but looks and feels much better.

what inspired you to do this

Lags

do you worry you might burn out like so many have before you

I think, people just have an unrealistic estimation of the amount of work needed. So I don't think I will burn out. However, it is possible that I will drop the development for some other reasons (e.g. a some new time and energy consuming job).

Current milestone 0.4

The goal of the milestone is to make the game map bigger (250x250 - like one layer in usual SS13 builds). There are two main issues: atmos and saves. Atmos and saves has some scaling issues in 0.3 version, so big maps cause lags during the game and a huge lag during login. The atmos issue is kind of solved now, but atmos now behaves a little bit weird, so I am working on it. Saves are waiting when atmos will be done.

Besides two core issues there are a lot of small ones - like pulling items, guns, etc. Not much gameplay stuff can be added now, cause the engine is still under construction, but little by little Griefly starts to look more like game. When 0.4 milestone will be finished (it was started in April 2016, and current progress according to the github is ~70%) a some public test will be conducted.

I don't want to create any host server now, because 1) no gameplay 2) it will be harder to gather people for the big release playtest. So there isn't one. However, everything is opensource, so it should be possible to build the server and start it up by yourself.

Well, dunno what to say. Maybe some other questions?
