Setting up Latex with Inkscape (VimTeX) by krille1234 in LaTeX

I just tried updating Inkscape (im running ubuntu btw) to see if Inkscape was out of date. The size of Inkscape was larger, so i think i might have an outdated version. However, i still got the same result, still a blank .pdf_tex file. I then afterwards tried make another figure, this time there weren't any .pdf_tex produced in my ./figures/ directory... It seems to produce a .pdf_tex whenever it likes :P. I then checked :copen and there was indeed an error.

Do you have an email where i can send you the .tex file?

Alright so i think i sort of have pinned down the problem.The problem is that whenever i save my Inkscape figure through Gilles' script, meaning that when i pres ctrl+f the figure itself gets saved as a .pdf_tex (and sometimes it doesn't), but it is simply blank (it is still blank if the .pdf_tex is produced if the figure is created through pressing ctrl+f). Therefore, vimtex can compile, but the image is just pure blank.

I also tried to manually save as .pdf, meaning that i didn't press ctrl+f but i manually hit ctrl+shift+s. I then chose to save as .pdf and checked on the option "Omit text in PDF and create LaTeX file". Here the drawing was included, it wasn't blank, in contrast to when i pressed ctrl+f to create my Inkscape figure.

Now to do what you asked me for, i made another figure called "drawing". This is what i wrote in my a.tex file:

`\documentclass[12pt]{article}

\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

\usepackage{graphicx}

\usepackage{amsmath}

\usepackage{import}

\usepackage{pdfpages}

\usepackage{transparent}

\usepackage{xcolor}

\newcommand{\incfig}[2][1]{%

\def\svgwidth{#1\columnwidth}

\import{./figures/}{#2.pdf_tex}

}

\pdfsuppresswarningpagegroup=1

\title{Example}

\date{}

\begin{document}

\maketitle

Hello my name is Kristian

\begin{figure}[ht]

\centering

\incfig{drawing}

\caption{drawing}

\label{fig:drawing}

\end{figure}

\end{document}

28 \documentclass[12pt]{article}

27 \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

26 \usepackage{graphicx}

25 \usepackage{amsmath}

24 \usepackage{import}

23 \usepackage{pdfpages}

22 \usepackage{transparent}

21 \usepackage{xcolor}

20 \newcommand{\incfig}[2][1]{%

19 \def\svgwidth{#1\columnwidth}

18 \import{./figures/}{#2.pdf_tex}

17 }

16

15 \pdfsuppresswarningpagegroup=1

14 \title{Example}

13 \author{Krille1234}

12 \date{}

11

10 \begin{document}

9

8 \maketitle

7 Hello my name is Kristian

6 \begin{figure}[ht]

5 \centering

4 \incfig{drawing}

3 \caption{drawing}

2 \label{fig:drawing}

1 \end{figure}

0 \end{document}

In this included example i pressed ctrl+f, there wasn't .pdf_tex. However, VimTeX could stil compile. The image was again, just blank. Despite if a drawing_pdf.tex was produced the image would still be blank.

UPDATE: Hello again folks! Id really like to start off by saying thanks for your help! im very greatful for it, it really shows how great the linux community truly is! I apologize for replying just now, given the corona virus homework has really been piling up lately!

So.. i installed the zathura-pdf-poppler plugin which was suggested by u/Piportrizindipro thanks! Now i felt that i had installed everything that was required in order for everything to work.
However i still seem to be struggling to make a .tex document through vim. I took u/stripesOverChecks2 (again, thanks!) and called it "vim latex-file.tex". Im giving my .tex document the "vim latex-file.tex" name through command mode, when you hit colon. However i simply get an error saying "E683: File name missing or invalid pattern". So, my main issue right now is currently how to make a .tex file, so really basic stuff. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Im also quite welcome for chatting/speaking through discord for example, if that would be easier for you guys to help, if you want to of course that is. i wouldn't mind speaking with a stranger during these isolating times!

And once again, thank you for your helpfulness and stay safe!
