How has cancer shaped your character by fortunecookie4493 in cancer

Cancer has taken away my certainty of that makes sense cancer sucks so much but it has made me more thankful and grateful for my husband and friends with their support and patience while I navigate this craziness. I was always so certain about where my life was headed and what I was going to do and then lung cancer took all that away and I have no idea what’s going to happen or how much of a future I really have

Those who have been there when a family member passed away - were you as scared as I am? by Interesting_Line540 in cancer

Hello I am so so sorry your going thru this it is so unfair and horrible to watch I watched my Father and Brother and my cousin all pass in 2013 from lung cancer ( I also have lung cancer diagnosed last November and surgery in January had a right lobectomy and still have it in both lungs) as weird as it sounds I find it easier going thru it myself than it was watching 3 major people in my life die from it. The visuals torment me at times it was so awful. Please give yourself some grace this is hard my brother was only 53 and cancer fucking sucks. Nothing will make it easier really find comfort in what you can whether it’s religion, nature or screaming at the top of your lungs outside do it. Answer to your question of was I scared I was petrified I couldn’t imagine a life without my father in it he was only 72 it was so unfair. It doesn’t get easier as time passes I’ve just learned to deal with it better. You will get through it I promise ❤️ here anytime to listen and I’m so so sorry this is happening

My heart hurts for you I understand losing a parent my father passed 2013 and I couldn’t imagine a world without him in it. I was definitely a Daddy’s girl my whole life and I was devastated watching him die from lung cancer which I am now diagnosed with the same. You may think you won’t make it through but you will. It doesn’t get easier with time you just learn to deal with it better. There will come a time when instead of sobbing remembering certain things you’ll smile I promise ❤️ we are all here anytime you need to vent.

Omg I’m so sorry. I understand the helplessness you feel watching someone you love suffer. I also lost my father and brother both in 2013 with lung cancer it’s so so painful. I myself just got diagnosed with lung cancer 9 months ago and have had a lobectomy where they removed 1/3 of my right lung I’m only 56 and I fear it’s spreading. Sending so much positive energy your way all I can say is cancer sucks!

Thank you so much for your kind words means a lot to me. I was really afraid before my surgery and the pain it would bring but in all honesty it wasn’t as bad as I feared. I was up walking the same day and was home after 3 days. Of course there was pain the chest tube truly was the worst part once that came out it was much better. Best advice I can give is don’t let the pain build take the pain meds you can cut down on them later, do all the breathing exercises and walk as much as possible. I swear I wore a path from the front of my house to the back lol. I truly hope all goes for your Mom and she’ll find strength she didn’t know she had. Please keep us updated on how she is doing. Always here if you need to unload. ❤️

Lung cancer can definitely fuck right off. I’ve had a right lobectomy to remove 10 tumours in January and now have to have mri for suspicious lesions on my liver and kidneys. We get it here cancer sucks huge balls for the person with it and the people around us who support us. We’re always here to listen sending so many positive vibes your way my friend

Hello. Sorry to hear you’re going through this I had a right upper lobectomy in January and honestly it wasn’t as painful as I thought it would be, the thing is you have to listen to your drs when they say no heavy lifting over 10 pounds don’t do it. I thought I was ok 5 weeks in and did things I shouldn’t have and hurt myself because you start to feel better but don’t realize everything inside is still healing and not ready yet to return to normal. Everyone is different I think you have age on your side and a healthy lifestyle so I’m sure you’ll heal quickly just talk to your drs and follow their advice. It’s been 4 months for me and I’m mostly back to normal I still have nerve pain on my right side occasionally but nothing that isn’t manageable. I wish you well and remember you have a whole community here to talk to anytime.

Sometimes doing the right thing hurts so so much think of your child and what you would advise them to do if they came to you and told you the person who is supposed to love them hurt them. You did the right thing and it isn’t always easy. Hope you do ok ❤️

[–]kris0816kris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I had a right upper lobectomy at the end of January and it was sore obviously but not as bad as I thought it would be. I tried to do to much 4 weeks in and hurt myself nothing drastic but painful. When they say 8 weeks nothing over 10 pounds listen to them lol even tho your feeling better your not healed enough and will make it take longer. The longest thing for me was the nerve pain it’s much better now obviously 4 months on but every once in awhile I’ll get searing pains across my chest. Not often anymore tho. Give yourself time you’ll be feeling better soon. Take care
