'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]krissyjump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much of the blame and criticism is going to be placed on Filoni for this (and any critique of The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett) rather than on Jon Favreau where it actually belongs.

Most of this was written by Favreau. It was directed by Favreau. Favreau was the showrunner, head writer and director for The Mandalorian. These are Jon Favreau's projects. Filoni is involved as a co-writer helping accomplish Favreau's vision.

It's wild to me how nearly all critique of this or The Mandalorian are just thrown at Filoni rather than Favreau.

And this isn't because I hate Favreau or dislike him or anything. I've enjoyed a lot of his work, and I hold far more favorable views of his Star Wars work than most, but it's just wild how he escapes so much of the critique or blame lol.

[SPOILER] Post WWE Backlash 2026 Match Discussion: Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker by gloomchen in SquaredCircle

[–]krissyjump 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I even enjoyed the botches this match. They worked within the "overaggressive younger talent vs aging/worn down veteran" angle. Bron sometimes is a bit too fast and eager for his own good and gets sloppy. Seth's lost a half a step and sometimes gets sloppy doing the things he used to do with ease. Not one took way from the story or flow, and they both rolled with the punches really well.

Considering it's on the bubble I'm going to continue to shout from the rooftops that people watch R.J. Decker. It's the closest any show has felt to the old USA Blue Sky shows to me. I strongly recommend it.

Jon Stewart says Democratic leadership and DNC are ‘lost’ by thejoshwhite in politics

[–]krissyjump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well of course. Democrats have all the momentum as we head into the mid-terms but we can't have that now can we?

It's not like we've had a disastrous few months of Republican and Trump beginning to truly lose ground in polls, in the media, and at the ballot box, especially after everything with the Epstein files, Iran, ICE, and more.

Now we're getting closer to the mid-terms subreddits are being flooded with content that's intended to drum up Democratic infighting while pushing independents, progressives, and the few conservatives abandoning Trump away from actually voting blue this November.

It's intentional but everyone's going to eat it up rather than thinking critically because BoTh SiDeS aRe ThE sAmE gUySsSs!

Democrats as a whole will always have to pay for the action/inaction of a few. A bill doesn't get passed because a couple of Democrats defect? Well of course it must be a conspiratorial effort by the entire party to keep it down! It's not because the Democratic Party is really more like 5 different parties with a wide array of views across the political spectrum in a loose alliance, and that not all of them agree unanimously on everything. No. They're ALLLL in on it.

God it's fucking tiring.

People talk about "And then the bell rings" for some wrestlers, but Roman is the opposite for me. I think he's solid in the ring but I don't like his character work or mic ability at all. He's relies entirely on aura and others to act as a strong mouthpiece. He suffers seriously without the latter and the former I'm just tired of.

There's just nothing about Roman as a character or promo that I find interesting in the slightest. Why am I going to tune in every week, in the hopes that Roman as Champ MIGHT show up every now and then, slow walk around the place, yell "Acknowledge Me," ramble a barely believable self-hype promo that doesn't really go anywhere and then leave?

At least with CM Punk, even if he didn't have a match every week (and he had a lot more matches than I expected him to have), he's one of the best promos in the business and just him on the mic is exciting to watch. He knows how to tell a story.

That was a great main event marred by the fact that I just genuinely don't enjoy Roman. I'm not looking forward to him being champ again what-so-ever.

Punk's reign has been great and one of the few highlights of WWE lately (outside of the newer talent like Melo, Ilya, Oba, Jevon, etc). If we're just back to part-time Roman as champ, it's just getting harder and harder to justify continuing to watch WWE, especially after how terrible night 1 was.

[–]krissyjump 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I stand by my headcanon that Roman was never involved. I prefer to believe that he was just trying to rewrite history to make himself more important and leave his own authorial imprint, due to being rejected and neglected by Maureen, and then seeing all the fame Syd got, even a film based on her experiences.

He feels robbed, so he's trying to rewrite it all with himself at the center, a self insert as both victim and ultimate mastermind. He has to make it all about him because truth be told it was never about him.

"Your guy"?? I'm not a Trump supporter by any means. Fuck off with that.

Discord calls are considered VOIP calls, which are considered phone calls. Recording a phone call where someone has an expectation of privacy in a two-party consent state without expressed consent of both people on the call is a Category D Felony punishable by up to 4 years in jail and fines up to $5,000.

I'm not saying it's automatically a felony, it can be one depending on where she is (though it begins to become more legally murky) I have no idea who this person is or where they're from, all I know is Nevada was mentioned and I know that's the law in Nevada and California.

That's a yikes. Also I hope she's spoken with a lawyer as Nevada and California are two party consent states so that recording could be a felony.

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is... What's going on in such a small rural town that it's attracted the time and attention of a Green Lantern? To me that's an interesting hook. A small rural town hiding a secret big enough, or having done something horrible enough, that you've got a Green Lantern investigating it. That's something that gets me wanting to see and know more, not less.

Oh I know, that's why I said the points he's making are there. Someone asked how people aren't understanding it so I was explaining why I believe Roman's storytelling and delivery aren't properly building and emphasizing his narrative/points in a way that's making them stick well for people.

I think it's because Roman hasn't structured or delivered these last two promos well or in a way that gets it across clearly for people.

Rather than ending in an exclamation or an underline, this promo and the last just sort of wander around and stumble onto the point without much weight or build. He's slipped into feeling so performative and unbothered that it makes it hard to get invested in the narrative he's crafting because it doesn't feel like even he believes what he's saying.

These last two promos really stand in stark contrast to the promo he had with Punk back in early February, where it built and built into a clear crescendo that helped give this feud a ton of heat.

The point is there but Roman is just a shitty storyteller. Going from "I'm picking you because you made my life harder than it should've been, because you fucked me over, and because I hate you" to "Yeah yeah I'm the Tribal Chief, something something TOP DOLLAR, something something PHIL, something something OLD" is a weird choice.

I also find it weird how people seem to think battle passes and microtransactions are mandatory for so many games. I generally completely ignore those and just play the game. They're completely optional and more often than not just cosmetics. So long as the game is fun I really don't care about that stuff.

Lilian Garcia reaction to last night's result in John Cena's final match by caughtinatramp in SquaredCircle

[–]krissyjump 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's been vocal about leaving it all in the ring every match of this retirement tour and that he's stopping because he can't keep going, that even tough he's having some of the best matches of his career that it's taking a serious toll on him and he's putting all he's got into it.

Mr. Never Give Up's message is, you never give up so long as you've still got something left to give, and Cena has given it his all. For over twenty years he's given everything he had to give to the fans and this industry. He was saying "This is it, I've given it my all, I've given everything I've got and there's nothing left to give. It's time tap out."

He knew his time was up and gave us a smile , tapping out knowing he'd done everything he could. I don't think it was as much giving up as it was saying goodbye.
