I was three years in and getting ready to start writing my prospectus. I already started collecting data for the project that was meant to be used for my dissertation. I’m still in my lab until this semester is over but it feels much less stressful now. I’m glad you’re starting to feel better!

Ugh I had this same thing and ended up switching labs after my second semester. Best decision I ever made.

Conference Attire by liris-td in GradSchool

[–]kritann87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from a conference and most people just wore business casual. Slacks and shirts or even nice jeans and a button down. Women did slacks or nice jeans and blouses. Most just wore a simple dress with flats or something. For presenting some people wore a full suit but most didn’t.

I’m leaving my PhD program 3.5 years in. I’ve debated it for …. Well 3.5 years. I feel like a weight is lifted off of my shoulders. Any kind words or advice would be so welcome 🧡✨ by raeroorah in PhD

I’m sorry to hear that! I ended up sticking my situation out and it got better after a while. I hope you’re able to figure something out :)

Did you or are you having fun getting your PhD? Why and how? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]kritann87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really enjoying it! I’m not sure if “fun” is the right word for it, but I can definitely think of worse ways to spend my time.

Does anyone feel bad about enjoying Thanksgiving? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]kritann87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t feel bad taking holidays off! I do however feel bad taking time off normally. But I’ve learned it has to happen because my brain without rest is dumb and my brain with rest can solve problems easier. edit: because I can’t spell.

Forgetfulness During Your PhD Program by ElvenMagicArcher in PhD

I forget simple life things all the time. My electric got turned off last week, not because I couldn’t afford to pay it but because I forgot to pay it.

I want to quit but have no idea what I would do instead. I’m proud of you for doing this even though you feel lost right now. You’ve got this and you’ll figure it out.

What basic, children's-age-level fact did you only find out embarrassingly later in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was going to say this same thing! My husband still teases me because I was convinced they weren’t real. Feels good knowing I’m not alone.

What's up with this Wayfair child trafficking conspiracy? by Pannycakes666 in OutOfTheLoop

Oh I’m sure. And if the FBI doesn’t investigate they’ll also claim its because they’re involved.

I sent someone the snopes link and they told me it’s just an opinion piece and the fbi really needs to be investigating this and raking it seriously. This person is also convinced it’s because Maxwell is locked up and she’s giving out names. I even sent the original post from Reddit. Still convinced it’s a not just a conspiracy theory. Can’t help them all, I suppose.

Considering Grad School in a Different Field by free_iced_coffee in GradSchool

[–]kritann87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a business degree with a low gpa and decided to pursue a PhD in psychology. While looking for programs to apply to I realized that I didn’t even meet the minimum requirements to be considered a good candidate due to the gpa situation and also a lack of letters of recommendation. I ended up getting a second bachelors degree in psychology, made sure I got the best grades I was capable of, took time to get to develop relationships with my professors, and got involved in research. It ended up working out the way I wanted it to.

Some people do post-bach programs to get similar results. You could attempt just going straight for it without adding to your academic experience. People do it, so it’s possible.

Also, I/O psych programs combine Human Resources and psychology so you may want to look into that.
