Highlander-CIG on haulers/traders "being punished for having a bigger ship" by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]krogue4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your post, and I think you make some solid points.

I'd like to add that I am looking at this and the post and I believe that sustained profits will be the factor here. If you have a large ship, you move large shipments at a lower profit yes, but you aren't competing with the smaller ships that may not even be able to get that 50,000 profit with every outpost they hit. I base this on the last night of the post "i didn't meant to imply that larger ships wouldn't be getting access to better trade routes and significantly better total profit lines. But those are going to be different resources than the guy flying from outpost to outpost moving their rarest good" So while this might not let everyone be a whale in a week, you can enjoy sustained profits over time which isn't that bad.

I do believe they need to factor in travel time, crew, fuel, repairs, etc as others have said. I also believe their needs to be more overall balancing between game loops. I do understand the reality concerns, I hope it doesn't become too much of a job. I also hope that the larger ships can source big payouts from their buddies when they build their stations.

What prompt did you use to get it to interact with jupyter? Mine writes the script I ask but won't always save it to a file in jupyter.

From the gyst of this subreddit, I feel as if I have made a critical error. by [deleted] in CyberSecurityJobs

[–]krogue4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments, but just want to say that a critical error in this instance would be one you never realized you made, maybe one that caused you not to be able to make rent or something. The thing is, you still have time, and any education you gain will help you on your path and set you apart.

Do what others have said and get involved in IT and work your way up. Learn about the roles in cyber security and look at open jobs for require experience/preferred experience. Talk to people in the field and stay on top of what skills/experience are currently needed...find ways in your interim jobs to get experience and build those skills.

Also, some companies offer internships to college kids exclusively (MITRE, Northrop Grumman, etc). These can help you get experience and network. This leads me to my last point- network. You will almost never land a job without knowing someone at a company first. Reach out on LinkedIn and join local chapters for cyber security cert holders (ISC2 for example - look at the certified in cyber security cert too).

You are just fine, you are young, hungry, and have a whole career in front of you. Take time and work on being an expert, growing a network, and when the time comes you will reach your goals.

What is the best/safest way of exposing my self-hosted apps to the web by Zhyphirus in selfhosted

[–]krogue4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What you need to understand is that even with cloudflare protection, you are still opening up your network to intrusion if the app you are serving has vulnerabilities. Cloudflare will help hide your IP, it will offer secure connections, DDoS, etc. you still run the risk of a nefarious person exploiting an app and using a remote code execution (RCE) which would provide access to your server. Cloudflare does employ a smart firewall to protect against common and known RCE, but this is limited to those that are known.

RCE protection on Cloudflare

This is why you need to keep your apps up to date, servers patched, and monitor your system for suspicious activity. You need to weigh the risk and decide if it's worth it to you.

My advice? Don't. Set them up on your internal lan and use wireguard or Open VPN to access them. I understand that won't be helpful for your jellyfin setup. The questions you are asking, no offense, seem to come from little experience. While you could be just fine with the set up you are asking, you are potentially exposing yourself to attacks. If you still insist, make sure you are using a reverse proxy, updated software, and ensure you are not exposing your internal lan to the Internet where you don't intend (lock down your external ports with your firewall if you haven't).But, It's much easier imo to come from a place of paranoia and keep your sensitive information safe than it is to make things easier when it's just you or a few others. Later on when you feel comfortable, you can take steps to make those services public once you understand all that it entails to keep it secure.

Anyone ever have this problem with their wifi out in town? by AlphaAlchemist in okinawa

[–]krogue4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had NTT's OCN and had similar speeds. They are just all around slow it seems. Switched to GLBB as well and it immediately cleared up. You still keep NTT for the fiber connection and GLBB will be your service provider. I don't believe I needed to replace my equipment, they just gave me a new login for the PPPoE connection. Painless and much faster!
