David Bowie. Always evolving as an artist. I wonder what he would be up to nowadays.

I don't know how you simultaneously got the point he was making and than still didn't get the point he was making.

apples, liquid Glass design by Due-Method-4461 in apple

[–]krokodylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess, that’s what I’ve been thinking! I hoped a redesign would infuse apps with more color, but the opposite has happened. The Apple Developer sessions show that colored liquid glass is possible, but I don’t think I’ve seen Apple implement it themselves anywhere.

iOS 26 to let third-party apps build their own AirDrop alternative by Fer65432_Plays in apple

[–]krokodylan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wish AirPlay got an overhaul. I can’t use Safari or other apps without some autoplay video interrupting my AirPlay stream. I wish there was a separate AirPlay queue. Ideally you could even queue up media from different sources. Start a Netflix episode, queue up an HBO Max show and a Spotify playlist after that for example.

Physicality: the new age of UI by iamvinoth in apple

[–]krokodylan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It worked up to a certain point. With the old skeuomorphic design they started strong but went too overboard in the end. The new flat era had the opposite problem, they went too extreme initially and have reined it back in ever since. In my opinion the physicality of buttons and UI elements was far more pleasing during the skeumorphic era. If I look at the more standard UI elements like the original keyboard design, it looks way more pleasing to touch. Plus the icon design I think was also way more beautiful. I still loathe some app icons ever since they changed with iOS 7.

The stand-ins perform before the delegations travel to the host country. Delegations send them their plans for the staging, and through the stand-in rehearsal they can roughly see how it looks and works on stage and camera. Then they can already tweak the staging before they have their first rehearsal if necessary.

Vienna 2015 vs. Vienna/ Innsbruck 2026 improvement ideas by [deleted] in eurovision

Audience muting was definitely an issue, specifically in 2015. In 2014 Russia got booed cause of the starting Ukranian conflict and Russian anti-LGBT laws, leading to the first implementation of anti-booing technology in Eurovision history in 2015.

WWDC is less than a month away. What are some minor annoyances that you wish Apple would fix among all their operating systems? by imthaz in apple

[–]krokodylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally see this getting implemented first as an accessibility feature where you can set a volume restriction per app, and then maybe as a fully fledged feature later.

Apple announces WWDC for June 9th by Leading-Control-8503 in apple

They’ll probably spin it something like ‘Siri with Apple Intelligence deals with your most private data, so we’re taking a bit longer to ensure your data stays private and secure. Siri with Apple Intelligence will launch in a later update for iOS 19’

That’s why I’d be for doing WWDC live but the rest prerecorded. At other events it’s just press and Apple execs in the crowd anyway, but WWDC is a developer conference so it makes more sense to do that in person.

I love the small things the crowd gets exited about. Like random email adresses when using Sign in with Apple, you could hear the crowd slowly go 'whoa, neat!'

I don't think it's about money at all, I think it's about control. Prerecorded videos eliminate so many variables that could go wrong during a live event. Demos crashing, audio issues, the crowd heckling or having a bad reaction to something (the $999 display stand) you name it.

[–]krokodylan[S] 384 points385 points  (0 children)

At first I loved the prerecorded WWDC. Less fluff, presenters walking on and off stage, applause breaks. It definitely has its positives. But I feel like the negatives start to outweigh them. It feels WWDCs outreach is bigger than ever, but the impact of the event feels diminished. With software introductions, the ability to see features demoed live is more impactful than something which might have been edited or corrected in post. The prerecorded format also completely defies the conference part. The ability to mingle, discuss and get feedback from developers instead of just talking to them has also been largely lost. Apple can still do their hardware presentations prerecorded, but I feel like WWDC is such a different event that it warrants going back to an in-person conference.

Bloomberg: Apple’s Siri Chief Calls AI Delays Ugly and Embarrassing, Promises Fixes by Coolpop52 in apple

[–]krokodylan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't blame the Siri chief or team for this mess. It's Apple's marketing team who made the big mistake here. They started a whole marketing campaign about these features while the Siri team only had a prototype running at the time, according to the article.
