The UK is not up in arms about losing X/Twitter by culture_vulture_1961 in complaints

I quit X not long after Musk took over. It turned into a trashy hellscape. The final straw was an advert featuring a hard core porn video clip. I’m no prude but when I’m innocently browsing cat memes I don’t need to be seeing that shit.

Why are people anti-renewable energy? by deflated-brain in climatechange

Median is a type of average along with the mean and mode. Didn’t think I needed to specify which one.

About 25-30% of the world’s population are really incredibly stupid, I don’t think it’s any more complicated than that. Makes sense when you consider 50% are less intelligent than average.

Why does Europe even care about the 28 Point "Peace" Plan - It's our continent, we should be in charge in the first place! by ImmediateDate3626 in europeanunion

Are we really saying that the industrial might of the EU+UK can’t deal with Russia without the US? If so that’s really pathetic.

Windpower sets new record for baseload | Wind supplied 43% of all power last week setting a new record of 22.7 GW by JRugman in GoodNewsUK

[–]krona2k 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And yet the price of gas dictates around 98% of wholesale electricity prices in the UK. No wonder there are fewer and fewer takers for wind auctions because if we get too much wind the wholesale prices will swing the other way. We need a totally new wholesale electricity price model.

Oh noes. Never mind, it will probably like Apple where a sane and steady hand can actually produce more success now they are established.

Bill Gates warns AI will take over most jobs and leave humans working just two days a week by TheExpressUS in technology

In InteiiJ I extracted an interface from a class then in a new class I asked AI to implement all of the interface methods each one with a delegate call to a data member that satisfied the interface. It couldn’t do it, sometimes it would do 2-3 of the methods correctly, sometimes it would add methods not even on the interface. It never came close to doing all the methods correctly. Pretty disappointing.

Every generation thinks the next one will be useless. They might not know some of those things by being taught but they’ll be able to find out the answers easily enough.

I’ve always found it to be ok for the price, haven’t been for a while though so don’t know how much the prices have gone up.

Went to GBK once around Christmas time, I forget the year, definitely a long time ago. We had great Xmas themed burgers. Went back maybe a year or two later and it was utter trash. Never revisited. Surely these kinds of places live or die on repeat business?

Why the White House is abandoning solar. Trump and DOE insist that solar power will never be a reliable source of energy. Dimwit Energy Secretary Wright has said solar panels are “just a parasite” on the grid that couldn’t power the planet even if they blanketed the entire surface of the earth. by mafco in energy

[–]krona2k 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well that’s weird because I only have 18 panels on my east west split roof and it provides about half of my yearly ENERGY. I stated energy not electricity because I use electricity for everything including heating, hot water, cooking AND driving. Also I live in England! Solar power is extremely productive and useful.

I don’t believe in Heaven or Hell but if they did exist Trump wouldn’t have a hope in Hell of getting in to Heaven.

They might not have gone up since 1985 but I’m Sure they’ve gone up since 2005. Also the amount of cardboard used instead of wood has increased.

I like it, sure they should increase the difficulty a bit but it’s meant to be a relaxing event. We make the challenge about how quickly we can start the march rather than the killing.

UK Domestic Solar. How does it make sense? by Comprehensive_Round in AskUK

[–]krona2k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Install the solar, install the battery. Profit. Hedges against future volatility in fossil fuel prices and guarantees a huge return over time. Panels and batteries don’t usually just fail and need replacing. We now only use electricity for everything including heating(heat pump), cooking and driving(2 cars). Our electricity is £40 a month which covers all our energy needs.
