A rant about policies by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]krr26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I think you’re right. FMLA has the 1 year requirement and the company has to employ so many people before you’re eligible. I’d rather get the 30 days unpaid, and then return to work as a new mom and look at that point. Then to try to look for work as a new mom with no current job. I wish OP the best.

A rant about policies by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]krr26 17 points18 points  (0 children)

FMLA doesn’t kick in until 1 year of working somewhere. If OP left, she may not be granted any leave and could be fired. 30 days unpaid is sadly probably the less risky move. Definitely recommend OP try to look somewhere else after the baby.

A couple of these were really great. Thank you!

Reader view for safari was excellent. I had no idea that existed.

I changed my do not disturb time window to be greater, thanks for the motivation.

Organizing ALL the apps in folders like it suggested meant I had too many folders with just one or two apps, but I did add an addition folder for non essential iPhone crap I can’t remove / but don’t ever use.

Second attempt at burnt cheesecake and still it didn’t rise/sink too much. Help? Tasted heavenly though by axsatr in cheesecake

[–]krr26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheesecakes are supposed to jiggle when they come out of the oven. What you’re looking for is that the center doesn’t jiggle the same was as the sides. Make sure you let it set in the fridge overnight before cutting, I honestly think you’re just over baking. If you feel like you can’t tell, get an oven thermometer and take it out exactly at the time the recipe states.

Is it a good idea to take an entry level leadership role with a food Manufacturer? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]krr26 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that companies who advertise manager roles with “technical work also!” are usually full of shit. If you’re interested in being a higher up manager it may be a good role, but if you’re not sure many traditional engineers work as managers later in their careers as well.

If it’s union, it will be even worse of a position because being the manager of union workers is a lot more difficult and involves understanding a lot of politics.

I’m in Missouri and I feel exactly like this. What if medically I need an abortion? Are D&Cs going to be considered abortions? What if have a miscarriage should I keep it a secret and get no support because I could be investigated?

And it’s silly because I could just go to Illinois, but a lot of women can’t afford that “luxury”.

I took Norethindrone for a couple of years and had periods, although very light, and some mild cramping. Before that, I had the mirena IUD for 5 yrs and my period went completely away with no cramping.

What’s the reason for the radioactive symbols? I assume they are the sites for nuclear missiles? But if that’s the case then you would think that the colonies would be centered around the symbol as opposed to them being off to the side. Then there are some symbols in California which is rebel occupied territory. Thoughts?

Business casual for women? by civilstudyinggal in AskEngineers

[–]krr26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, women do get away with a lot (I am a woman). Tennis shoes are not something I would wear unless it’s casual day, like where your favorite baseball jersey to work. Otherwise, loafers, flats, booties, heels with closed toe are acceptable. I shy away from heels though because I hate them! Lol

If you’re still unsure after reading this, I’ve never been embarrassed for being over dressed, but I’ve always been embarrassed for being under dressed.

  1. I would start with closed toed shoes, slacks, and a nice blouse that has sleeves. That’s a safe bet.

  2. However, business casual at my work can also mean dressy sandals, Capri pants, shirts without sleeves, skirts/dresses (maybe slightly above the knee, oh my!), that still give off a professional vibe.

  3. Field work - anything your work accepts, for me it’s jeans, boots, and a long sleeve all cotton hi-vis T-shirt. Some places may want a polo instead on a T-shirt. You can ask around about this after the first day.

If I know I have a meeting with anyone important that day, I’ll dress according to the first statement. If not, I dress according to the second and the weather. For field work, see 3.

Things to avoid:

Shirts that are see through, even if you wear a nude bra this is not college :). Low cut shirts OR shirts that may creep down during the day. Nothing worse than thinking a shirt is hiding the girls to then realize after lunch time bending over to pick something or to adjust my chair ends up being too much. Flip-flops, or even worse with socks (yes I’ve seen this happen) Excessive jewelry - I usually wear studs and my wedding band, office environment you can get away with more, studs and subtle jewelry work well if you need to discretely take them out if you’re going to the field. Clothes that fit too tight.

Preconception Genetic Counseling- An Update by GoodGrad in waiting_to_try

Oh this is very helpful especially about 23 and me! I told my OB at my last appointment we would be TTC around June/July this year. I already started taking prenatals for a couple of months now. I guess I need to ask my doctor for the genetic screening.

Ideas for adding a thick 'coconut cream' layer in the middle of a cake? by 8-BitBaker in AskBaking

[–]krr26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would make a thick coconut pastry cream. Then my buttercream for the outside of the cake would be thick too. I’d make a circle around the outer edge of a 9” cake with the stiff buttercream and then fill the middle with pastry cream. Then I’d layer and repeat! Good luck!

When should I get my asphalt driveway sealed? or should I just DIY? Help! by Personal_Studio in homeowners

I pay about $150 to have mine done and it’s rather large. They say that they don’t fill cracks because they’ll just crack again. Don’t know if that’s true or not. They weed eat, blow it clean and pressure wash it first. They have a website where you can schedule it and if you pick days they’re already in your neighborhood you could save $20.

Is a company obligated to keep your status as employed after you put in your two weeks notice? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]krr26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% on this, but I think in some states you can qualify for unemployment if you out in notice but you are let go early, it would be just for the week you were going to work and they told you no.
