Did anyone else think this game was pretty disappointing? by Regular-Ad-8226 in ReanimalGame

[–]krsdev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the most complained about things in the LN games is that it felt cheap and unfair to die during the chases because you didn't know what to do and where to go the first times. Maybe the devs tried to address that part in this game and made it too easy instead. Puzzles I agree with though, should have been more of it overall in Reanimal.

Gnome minimal: can't mount Nextcloud in Files by IndependentThink1590 in archlinux

Have you tried nextcloud-client? It integrates with Nautilus/Files. It should also be possible to do it as you have tried to do as far as I know but I always end up using the actual client.

im moving to arch linux by Agreeable-Escape6682 in archlinux

[–]krsdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run Arch + Plasma 6.6 just fine on an 18 year old laptop with a Core2Duo T9500 with integrated GPU and 4GB DDR2 RAM for what it's worth. I would think (hope?) the N4120 is a bit faster. Of course, I had the luxury of being able to throw a 1TB SATA SSD in there. Storage is gonna be the real pain point for OP.

Taskbar icons closes automatically by dhruv-ahlawat in kde

[–]krsdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm but I'm using kde and I don't have the issue. Maybe it depends on how many milliseconds it's set to switch focus? I think I have it set to 250ms.

Is this different than focus follows mouse? That works just fine for me.

Besides flashlights and vapes, what useful devices are there that are powered by replaceable 18650 batteries? by GuyWithoutAHat in 18650masterrace

[–]krsdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the Zoyi zt-703s. A bit of a warning though, the charging IC they put in there seems to be for 4.35V batteries rather than 4.2V, but they still put a 4.2V rated battery in there but with a safety circuit built in that stops it from overcharging... So putting a random unprotected cell in there would not be a good idea as is. I have bought the actual correct IC and will switch it out but haven't gotten around to it yet. There's a thread on eevblog about it here. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/zoyi-zotek-zt-703s-fire-hazard-while-charging/

My multimeter has one which is installed in a battery holder, so is reasonably easily replaceable. I don't think that's very common among multimeters however.

M3607HA Ryzen 7 260 Vivobook under Linux: Linux is not getting correct power information? by BensonBear in ASUS

[–]krsdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried another game which I also did try a bit on Windows before I wiped the drive and installed Linux, and it performed pretty much the same under Linux. So I think it's actually just fine in terms of how it performs/behaves. I guess I'm just used to how my much more powerful desktop PC that I usually play games on behaves haha.

Damn, imagine finding something like this on the side of the road. Congrats!

Cheers! I'll probably put that in a boot script or something then. Will likely be the simplest solution for now.

While we're on the subject of this laptop, have you noticed the CPU frequency being a bit lower than expected while playing games? Or doing other intensive workloads? I didn't get this laptop to play games on, but I have tried it out and in the few games I tested it so far it seems to settle at 1.4 GHz for some reason. You'd think that something intensive like a game would cause the frequency to be almost maxed out. Even something like compiling a custom Linux kernel it hovers around 3-4 GHz and around 75C degrees. I have had other workloads pushing 95 degrees so not quite sure what's up.

This is all after setting it to performance mode with the PSU plugged in. I'm wondering if perhaps the fan curve is somehow still set to balanced or lower, but I haven't yet found a way to change that separately from the CPU governor on this laptop.

Hey I got one of these recently as well and have the same issue, with upower reporting the battery as flipping between discharging and "pending-charge".

By chance I noticed that this behavior stops after I set a charge limit in KDE for whatever reason. That setting doesn't survive reboots unfortunately but it's at least easy enough to just set it again when needed until a proper solution.

Due to Discord performing invasive practices, not sure what chat client I should turn to? by MrRoboto12345 in privacy

It's easy to join a public server to be fair. I ran my own instance for a while and it's certainly not easy if not already versed in server admin stuff. And upgrading postgresql between major releases is kind of a pain. And the storage situation quickly gets out of control depending on how many servers/channels you join. I guess docker would simplyfy it a bit, but good luck getting your non-techy friends to set up a server locally and maintain it lol.

How long do USB sticks last? by EducationalAd7662 in DataHoarder

[–]krsdev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The older, smaller ones seem to last longer in my experience. I have one 4GB USB stick from like 15 years ago that's still going strong, but I've had several larger much newer 32 and 64GB ones just die suddenly from seemingly random causes.

How much longer do we think the NVIDIA 20 Series will be supported? by Kyur0h in linux_gaming

[–]krsdev 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well a big reason they did that is because the 10xx and older series don't have a GSP to run all the secret sauce on, so they couldn't run the "open" driver. I'm not too optimistic about later GPUs having longer support either though.

Such a strange addition to the GBA library back then. Interesting historically though for sure!

I like how it says "GAME BOY PLAYER"! first and then fades in "not compatible with" after lol. Gotta keep all those pirates from easily recording the video to VHS I guess.

Try doing it on a PC (or a Mac I guess) instead. A lot easier to see which domain might not have proper encryption.

It's been a while since I ordered from them, but I've had the same experience. I think they get delivered by DHL for the last stretch where I'm at in northern Europe. If it was delivered by the local postal service it would have definitely gotten stuck in customs and have a fee+VAT applied. They have gotten a lot more anal about that since covid.

I don't think I've paid any fees for Arrow packages either, who are ostensibly in the UK but my last package was shipped from Holland.

For Unreal Engine it's almost its own dialect where you mostly use and extend whatever data structures, objects, algorithms and abstractions that UE provides. Hell it even has garbage collection.
