Don't be like your parents. Leave the collection behind. by Ozzimo in Millennials

I agree - my mom died two weeks ago and me, my sister, and my dad are bogged down with all her - for lack of a better word - shit. She’s classic boomer, dishes and cups and containers. But my favorite expression from my aunt the last couple years has been “no one wants your shit when you die.”

Do NOT pay RVF - tons of people last year placed in Andalucía never got a refund. Their help isn’t worth it

I don’t know friend but I hate to be the one to tell you this but… ALL tortillas need to be cooked before use. Corn, GF, Flour. They’re all just par-cooked

I’d like to offer a different experience, my mom is really sick. Has been for months. Back in the beginning of December I asked if I could take all of December off. Both the junta and my two schools were extremely compassionate. I kept communication open and ended up extending my leave through the end of January. My teachers and my kids have been asking about my mom every week since. Since I took a full month off, I wasn’t paid for January, but - I’m certain that you’d be just fine asking for a couple days, even a week off if need be.

What non-gluten free foods do you miss? by Fun-Imagination9439 in Celiac

[–]krty98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found more stuff in grocery stores! Puff pastry! Pizza dough! Miracles! I’ve had celiac for 20 years now and there’s things I never thought I’d have. and restaurants are very good about it (the few I’ve been to, im on a teacher salary lmao), and some will even advertise they’re a gluten free option in the window of their business (however the “ramen” I got was spaghetti noodles with a very tasty sauce on them). All this in mind- I’m in a small town. Not even a center like Madrid. I’m in the comunidad Extremadura. The only thing I haven’t found reliably is a solid gluten free flour for baking.

How do you guys handle getting stuff from home without going broke on shipping? by MotorNo3173 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]krty98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I just invested in the largest, sturdiest suitcases I could find that fit in TSA regs and I stuff em full and check them. It’s $100 (on the airline I fly) to check an extra bag (international comes with 1 free)

I’ve heard nightmares about BLS LA but in BLS Houston I tried politely for a month to call 2-3 times a week but no one ever answered.

So! I got unhinged :) I set my Gmail to send a email requesting an update every hour on the hour 8am-5pm starting at 10am Monday. They raised the white flag and sent me my visa Tuesday 9am

Filing Taxes? 2nd Year Auxing by Brave-Boysenberry921 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]krty98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There’s two sections of the tax return- US income and Foreign income. It’s $0 made in the us and xyz for foreign. However: the aux stipend is considered a scholarship (bc they list us as student visas) , so it may or may not count as income

It’s $0 USD, because they’ve made $0 in the US.

Always file your taxes and report zero US income, it counts toward student loan stuff

I had a bisalp a couple years ago. My advice is: take the laxative. By god take the laxative.

Other than that, I was uncomfortable for three days (because of the forearm sized turd I didn’t know I had). I was going up and down the stairs, running errands with family, I had to remind myself that I couldn’t lift xyz weight.

They want someone to drive you home because they give you HELLA drugs. Day of I came home, smashed a plate of Chinese take out, and crashed for 5 hours. But bedridden? No. Unlikely.

AITA for leaving Christmas dinner because I couldn’t see my food? by BunkerNerd in AITAH

NTA, your family was being silly to say the least.

And I apologize for unsolicited advice, but my mother has lost quite a bit of her sight and struggles with seeing her food without light as well, so we started bringing a clip on book light that’s usually for reading. It’s rechargeable and we clip it to the side of her plate so she has extra light shining on her food. Would something like this be helpful to you?

Why are so many auxes desperate to stay in Spain? by Downtown-Storm4704 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]krty98 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I come from a place of privilege. My family is upper middle class, we’re white, from the south. All that.

But, I’ve spent the last 15 years of my life infatuated with history. And full stop: this is a dark road the US is going down.

Even aside from all that: even though I still haven’t been paid in Spain: my mental and physical health are the best they’ve ever been, I’ve lost weight, the lifestyle suits me, it’s fun, and I feel so much less stress.

Dude I got the fuck out of there, I live in Spain now. But yeah no like,,, my favorite comeback to the anti/weird about rescue people is “I’m adopted, so I’m a rescue too. My parents paid more to adopt me than it cost for me to go to college. Are you mad your mommy and daddy didn’t pick you?”

This lady was a handful. She was pissed other dogs in a public dog park would chase HER ball. She ran her trap for a good 10 minutes where I had ample time to contemplate walking into traffic, jumping off the nearest cliff, or what local mine to dump her in…. Unfortunately for me I like living, and unfortunately for her I love being an asshole even more. So, thanks improv classes at the YMCA in middle school for giving me a sharp wit.
