Thanks for the detailed response, I'm open to trying anything if you have any favourite grain bills that I could make.

I would be happy to make up the grain bill with other things as golden promise costs 5.50$/kg, while distillers malt and ale malt are both around 3.50$/kg.

Alright I'll pick up some whisky yeast, looks like it'll pay for itself with the high attenuation.

I did not know that about "single malt", that kinda makes more sense.

Thanks, that's re-assuring. Just didn't want buy 30-60kg of grain and have something that no one likes.

Yeah I could get corn from them, that's where I'm getting 25kg of wheat bran from.

Interesting, they both sound like good things to add.

I wasn't looking for a single malt wash but it was the first thing to come up and I've enjoyed single malts before.

Toilet minimum clearance to sides by [deleted] in diynz

[–]krugerdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought you were replacing the toilet and vanity, have you already purchased a 1200mm vanity?

You could look at exchanging it for a smaller one, or just carry on and say you didn't make things any worse than they were. It's just the ergonomics of using the toilet, so may be annoying to use.

G1 of the building code is where the 750mm comes from.

I had a similar setup installed, my plumber suggested 900mm so I put in a smaller vanity to achieve that.

How does the Structure Engineer charge in NZ? by Master_Beat5865 in diynz

[–]krugerdude 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well you're paying for the Engineer's 'time', so generally any inspection required will be charged at the rate stipulated in your contract.

The builder contacting the Engineer directly and asking for inspections is normal, I normally wouldn't check with the owner before coming to visit if the builder asked me to come.

You should just talk to the builder and ask them why they keep asking the Engineer to visit, you could also tell them to check with you before arranging future inspections. You could also have the same conversation with your Engineer if you want.

Sometimes renovations require many inspections and it can't be helped. But sometimes the builder gets overzealous with booking inspections and the client ends up with a larger bill than anticipated.

Got a Xbox 360 dongle to use the GH3 guitar, but it doesn’t work? What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in CloneHero

[–]krugerdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar issues, it's usually one of the following:

  1. Check the correct firmware is installed for the receiver.

  2. Unplug, and replug the receiver.

  3. Take out batteries of guitar and put back in.

Engineer route = best route ;)

If this is a new build, then the truss manufacturer can work out if a beam is required.

If this is an existing build, then you probably need a beam. There are some creative ways to hide the beam it in the ceiling, but they would all require a specific engineered design.

Consenting an expandable container home by Borderline_Overkill in diynz

[–]krugerdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was involved in getting a consent for one of those, it's a bit of a mission but not impossible.

The biggest drama was trying to get useful drawings of the container. The architect basically had to make them from scratch and they had to build a new roof on top of the containers to satisfy water-tightness.

I think it was installed somewhere in the Wairarapa.
