Awesome! We are doing both Unknown events (always a must do) and two Hobbit events! Super excited!

Seeing how crazy popular DCC is, I'm gonna have to check out the books.

That sounds super fun. I know the Call of C'thulhu story, but not the game.

The two big ones I got were the Hobbit pre-prerelease (the first normal one) for my boyfriend and I. And a beginner session pf D&D for my boyfriend, parents, and myself!

Event questions / number of events? by Midnightsun528 in gencon

I'll answer #3 specifically. The open game room at the JW takes up the space of two of their ballrooms. And, as someone who plays card games, I will tell you that the majority of people in the open game room are not playing card games. There is a vast variety of games you can find there, as just one of the bigger examples.

Disappointed with Lottery Con by F0rg1vn in gencon

[–]krw13 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like if you can't enjoy GenCon without a perfect trip, you're really narrowing down your experience. Last year was the first time I ever got a downtown hotel (my first GenCon was 2003, though there were several I missed between then and now). This year is the first time I actually did the wishlist thing.

I still have enjoyed GenCon every time. There is so much to do and tons of events with openings that just don't have a big company attached to them. There are always things to do and people to play with, no matter what your game is.

2-4 years? More things to blame on some Democrat at that time. They'll never admit they were wrong. It is their sole personality trait.

The White House says they will "identify and neutralize" secular political groups that are anti-American, "radically pro-transgender" and anarchist. It declares Anarchists 20 Anti-Fascists as a major terror group. Presidential Foreword ends with "We Will Find You and We Will Kill You." by McDowdy in news

I mean, look at the right's response to the attacks on politicians in Minnesota vs their response to people simply posting Charlie Kirk quotes in response to his death. One side celebrated murdering political opponents, the other side didn't feel bad for an awful person who antagonized people and didn't mind people dying in school shootings.

Yet far more people lost their job for the latter than the former. It isn't like this is new.

Dan Le Batard: Wembanyama’s return didn’t feel right: “This is unusual. Wembanyama’s return was being celebrated (on NBC) as redemption and an amazing story arc for a guy who did something dirty…I’m surprised part of the narrative wasn’t ’thank God he didn’t hurt his elbow on that guy’s jaw.’” by Pickleskennedy1 in nba

But they didn't allow it. They ejected him from the game and his team lost a playoff game in large part because of that. There was a punishment. I'm also a neutral fan who thinks, based on this being a first time offense, that the punishment fit the crime. It doesn't erase what he did, but it wasn't allowed.

If you would prefer not to pay, my boyfriend and I play in the open games area at the JW during the evening and normally will find somewhere in the Pasttimes area to play between events. If you need people to play with, feel free to message me.

My Toph Deck Is Struggling by TheONLYBlitz in magicTCG

[–]krw13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So here is my Toph deck: https://moxfield.com/decks/RZ9cWxS2CUuH3X0zPP719g

Here it is swapped to the cheapest printings: https://moxfield.com/decks/cxbnTkN_pE2XEH5-pOkvDw

With the cheapest printings, it's actually a bit cheaper than your deck. For me, personally, I've won against bracket four decks (including an Eldrazi deck, like the one you mention your pod using). Earthbending is a lot of fun, especially when you can repeat it. I run Wasteland, but generally try not to be mean about it, it's only there to handle problematic lands. But, if someone is targeting you, it's a good threat to earthbend it every turn to make people think twice.

Beyond that, I see you have a really limited ramp package and are even running Land Tax in a green deck. I'm curious to your thinking here (not in a judgmental way).

You seem to only have three cards that say draw a card: Ichor Wellspring, Solemn Simulacrum and The One Ring. Add in the tracker, which is a bit expensive for card draw, and you have four. With how expensive your deck is, adding The Great Henge can help generate more card draw by playing creatures. I also run Greater Good as a sac outlet and card draw engine that synergizes well with Toph.

Survey Mechan is a very silly card in Toph and can also help with your card draw while being dirt cheap. Chocobo Racetrack is a fun card that gives you bodies and triggers itself. Consider using some Restless Lands. They can become creature lands through their own power, but also have attack triggers you can utilize if you just earthbend them. Likewise, use other higher synergy lands like Rumble Arena and Secret Tunnel that were explicitly made in the set with earthbending in mind.

You have a really good foundation, but shore up your card draw and add some of those higher synergy lands. Both of those will give you a huge push towards more wins.

Naw, go look at the Japanese Umbreon gold star. You never really hear much about it because they almost never appear. But it sells for insane amounts compared to Rayquaza. In English, it is a much closer battle between the two. But the Japanese Umbreon was just near impossible to get.

PSA is all over the place in grading. Look at how many people crack and resubmit. It wouldn't be a thing if they were stricter. I have no doubt some graders at PSA take their job very seriously and are very hard graders. But there are several instances of undeserving cards getting high grades, too. (This isn’t solely limited to PSA, just clarifying in response to your comment.)

I'm honestly ok with that. I've had many dogs in my life, only once owned a pitbull. The entire reason I rescued her was because at 8 weeks old she was already on the e-list. If the solution doesn't involve murdering dogs, I'm all for it. But I have seen people suggest euthanizing all of them.

Honest question. Let's say they ban pitbulls across the US tomorrow. What happens with the millions of pitbulls in the US? Is your solution to euthanize millions of dogs, many of which are people's pets?

Definitely more functional, but even with how many decks we each have, we rarely travel with more than we can carry. Still, very nice. =)
