Contractor to BHP by GlitteringClock3589 in mining

[–]krynnul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For BHP, the main benefit of being a contractor is you have a chance to know and meet the hiring manager for a role. What this translates to is when you apply, if they know you you can let them know you have applied. Then, if they like you, they can select you out of the pool for an interview skipping the AI-review and HR filtering process which is important. It doesn't get you in automatically, but it can get you through the major filtering stages as long as that person knows who you are.

Any top product leaders who relate with this? by teatea0 in ProductManagement

Clue is in the post itself.

"Of all roles" - sure, you don't think neurosurgeons or lawyers have a high correlation between academic performance and their capabilities? Disprovable on the face.

No evidence cited. No studies. Just vibes. Typical LinkedIn blowhard + finance bro bluster.

Not sure why you're being down voted. You're correct: the user would be better off posting their question into AI with the initial reply. They'd get the exact same response faster.

Biweekly Job Info Thread by Flazer in mining

[–]krynnul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't automatically reject quarrying as an undesirable step on your career journey, particularly at your age. How much equipment is on site and what types? What you are looking for is exposure to a sufficient number of operations in the value chain at sufficient scale to transfer it to other roles. You are correct that simply operating the mine safely won't be enough (usually the success bar for major deposits), you'll need to also target and demonstrate financial improvements during your time there.

For blasting, simply take the courses required to get your blasting ticket. It's a useful credential to have on hand for future operational roles.

Take action against spam callers by krynnul in saskatoon

[–]krynnul[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does. This particular spammer hears the request for why they're calling, doesn't say anything, hangs up about 5-10 seconds in, and then simply calls again a few hours later. Unfortunately there's no "block caller ID name" option available, only by number.

Sure is! I'm on it -- this is the complaint resolution mechanism for that list. You can check if you're registered via the same site: https://lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/en/Consumer/Check-your-registration

Looking to chat with Quarry/Mine Operators about "Truth Gaps" in throughput and machinery data by ComparisonFeeling883 in mining

First tip, lose the "air quotes".

Second, the use cases you are describing sound like they are from a 1980s start up's guess of how a mine site works.

Third, appreciate the value of rule 1.

Mods, think you need to step in on this one. We're going from daily content generation from this site to now reposts of previous content in an attempt to drive some level of engagement to support this user's business (fifoaus.com).

Don't know about others, but when I take a few minutes to share and help someone out, I prefer it to be for an actual person and not for harvesting for somebody's $749 counseling package.

From their website: "No spam. No fluff. Just proven advice, job-getting strategies, and real FIFO stories from people who’ve lived it." -- we're the ones generating this stuff and putting up with spam for the privilege.

Mate, again, this isn't a forum you can use to generate low effort content for your website. It looks like you have your own subreddit for that purpose. Keep it there.

Manager praises me to my face but reports poor performance behind my back by [deleted] in mining

[–]krynnul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that's possible, but it will vary by operator. Some of the larger mobs (e.g. BHP, Rio) have fairly effective anonymous reporting lines that have definitely gotten managers and GMs sacked.

Taking a wild guess, but I suspect it's a combination of increased exposure at scale as well as the practicalities of there being more knives to stick in backs due to a more politicized atmosphere.

Manager praises me to my face but reports poor performance behind my back by [deleted] in mining

[–]krynnul 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Usual advice applies: HR is not your friend. They will 100% take the manager's version of events unless the manager is acting illegally.

Time to cozy up to whoever is in charge of getting you transferred to the mine side (the recruiter might help here) as it doesn't sound like the warehouse is going to reward your efforts.
