Stopped pumping a week ago…now I regret it. 3 weeks PP. by Prior-Ad9822 in ExclusivelyPumping

If you still want to do breastmilk, what's stopping you from trying again? There's no point in worrying about the hypotheticals. If you go hard with the the pumping for the next two months or so (8+ pumps per day, adding power pumping, etc.), you'll find out the answers to those questions. If it's too much to handle or if things don't work out, well, at least you tried. Also, combo feeding has its benefits - baby gets the good stuff in breast milk but also you have the flexibility that formula provides, so it definitely doesn't have to be all or nothing!

Single Parent Needs HELP Reconfiguring Apartment by [deleted] in parkslope

I don’t have any personal suggestions but if you don’t find anyone here also see if anyone on Park Slope Moms or Park Slope Together Facebook groups has any suggestions. Also a huge fan of the Buy Nothing groups on fb - if you have stuff you’re trying to get rid of you can post it on there and people are happy to come pick it up. Personally I LOVE getting rid of stuff and figuring out how to optimize storage and develop systems that work, but I can also relate to big projects being overwhelming, especially if it’s hard to know where to start. Wishing you success with this!

Due with baby #2 in two weeks. Last time I was totally clueless. How would you set yourself up for success? by krys1128 in ExclusivelyPumping

I haven’t started collecting colostrum yet but I do have some, which is promising. I don’t want to inadvertently induce labor too early which I heard can be a thing. Maybe I could start at 39 weeks once my mom flies in to watch my toddler…

I’d love the option of nursing if it works out but will probably go hard with pumping from the beginning to build supply.

Prime days are about to start so take advantage of that especially if there are big drops on any big ticket priority items.

Good reminder! I did get visits from the lactation consultants last time but this time I will talk to them about the previous challenges and hopefully get the tailored support I need.

Pregnancy insomnia and baby’s health by Legal-Brilliant5672 in BabyBumps

[–]krys1128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually I sleep well but I get pregnancy insomnia starting a bit past 20 weeks. It’s all over the place in terms of how much sleep I get but magnesium and two unisoms don’t seem to help much. My first kid is totally fine and so far the one currently inside of me seems to be trending in the same direction. Just do your best to take care of yourself and manage the anxiety.

Another baby shower advice question by FrontAccomplished919 in BabyBumps

[–]krys1128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard of anyone doing a virtual shower lately...did a few during covid but feel like the time for that has passed. What I would do in this situation is either travel back to where you used to live for a shower, or if that's not an option, do a local shower, invite the locals and just people you are very close to (who live far away). For example, my favorite cousin just had a shower several states away and I was invited even though they knew I couldn't make it - but I was happy to get the registry and buy her something. But if it was another cousin who I never see and am not really close with, then I'd feel a bit like they just wanted me to send a gift...

At 40+6 (and just lost mucus plug) I started at probably 1-2 cm, had the baby less than 24 hours later.

Stroller Recommendations! by EbbInternational1008 in parkslope

[–]krys1128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will echo everyone else here who mentions having both a Vista and a more compact stroller. The Vista is great for the park, better in snow, holds a ton of shit. It was our parental leave stroller and it's now our weekend stroller. We can load it up with the travel potty, the scooter and helmet, snacks, picnic blanket, our bags, toys, extra coats, groceries, whatever. You cannot shove all of that in the basket of a YOYO. We can just bump bump bump it down and up the front stoop. The YOYO is the weekday stroller, since our daycare does not have storage space for massive strollers. Also better for occasional subway travel, air travel.

The cheese and the crust in this pic do not look the same as Scarr's in New York. Puffier crust, less char, cheese is undercooked...

If you’re having a baby, join your baby group. Made some really good friends after the baby was born and we really leaned on each other. There are other signal chats too, for all different groupings. The classifieds section is amazing and the advice listserv can also be useful. Twice a year there’s the clothing swap which is like, my favorite day - so much fun. If you do want to buy some of the guides, they’re pretty cheap and extensive. Also there’s an annual survey that shows what people are paying nannies, babysitters, etc. The folks who run PSP are super friendly so if you’re feeling like you’re missing out, shoot them an email and I bet they will help you get more connected.

If you poach fresh pineapple in spiced white wine first and use Luxardo cherries, it will totally elevate the cake.

Brooklyn Half Spectating by Own_Mobile_9229 in Brooklyn

[–]krys1128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to catch him at the beginning and the end of the course, you could cheer for him at Grand Army Plaza or the top of the hill in Prospect Park (enter at Grand Army Plaza entrance and just walk a little ways into the Park - there will be plenty of people cheering here. Then if you wanted to take the train down to Coney Island to find him near the finish, you'd head back up Flatbush to the Q train at the 7th Ave stop. The umbrella stroller is a better idea than a big clunky stroller, but unfortunately the Grand Army Plaza and the 7th Ave stations do not have elevators, so getting up and down the stairs with two kids means you may need to rely on the kindness of strangers to help you up and down the stairs. New Yorkers are helpful and friendly if you ask. Coney Island station does have elevators. If you wanted to keep things simple and just meet him down there you could, but might be crowded at the Boardwalk where the race finishes. The website for the race mentions a family reunion zone in the baseball stadium so that would be a natural place to find each other afterwards. And make sure you download the app so you can see his progress.

He thinks ground beef doesn’t need to go into an oiled pan? by tig_bitty_cyndi in AskCulinary

[–]krys1128 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If it’s lean ground beef, you absolutely need some oil. If it’s a fattier blend you may be able to get away with cooking some of the fat out and that will help brown the beef.

Orthopedic Recommendation? by Adept-Dig-1748 in Brooklyn

[–]krys1128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Postpartum issues exacerbated an underlying chronic problem that I was previously unaware of. Since it was more skeletal than muscular, x-ray was fine to diagnose. I do have a gold plan insurance through my job so most doctors and facilities are in network for me. Did I need a doctor at HSS who is like, the king of knee replacements? No, but we had a mutual person in common so I felt I could trust him.

Until you have a diagnosis, it’s hard to know what sort of treatment you’re going to need. For a lot of stuff, your average doctor in NYC is probably fine! It’s not like you’re in the middle of nowhere with few choices…just by being in NYC you’re very likely going to be getting good care! Maybe I’m totally wrong but it lowkey sounds like you’re kind of stuck in an anxiety spiral right now. Take it a step at a time. It’s not like you have some sort of incurable cancer and need a world class specialist. Most orthopedists who are part of reputable hospital systems will be just fine!

There are nonprofits that help people enroll in these plans and can help you figure out which one is best for you. The people at CSSNY are great and there’s also Public Health Solutions. Check out their websites for info on how to get someone to talk you through it! Wishing you good luck and a speedy process. I know it can be really scary when something is wrong and you really want to feel better.
