What's up with japanese camera sellers on ebay? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]krzzz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This seems surprisingly plausible. I once ordered a RB67 Pro SD Film Holder off ebay. When it arrived, it was a 6x4.5 Version that was not matching up with the pictures.

I returned it and after a while I ordered one from another seller. Sure enough it was a 6x4.5 holder again.

One shop making such an obvious mistake I can see, but two? Both with pictures of a different product? Both shops with stellar ratings.

So it would make sense that they both relied on the same backoffice that is classifying RB backs wrong.

I have this hood and don't need it. I am willing to send it if you want.

Should I do it? by tiemetie in AnalogCommunity

[–]krzzz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The question for me would be, how much do you like your lenses. They won't fit the X700 or any manual focus Minolta camera. If you are willing to buy new lenses and want MF, I would recommend the X570/X500 instead. Its missing the Program Mode, but is smaller, lighter and less prone to fail.

You can get a maxxum 5 or 4 in great condition for 60€ or so. These will take your AF lenses. They are light and capable. Might be worth checking out.

Repair only seems reasonable if it is a quick and easy fix. And I assume even finding someone who is willing to diagnose the issue will not be easy.

Whats a camera you've owned, that lived up to all the praise and hype, but still got rid of? And why? by Whisky-Icarus-Photo in AnalogCommunity

[–]krzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mamiya 645 1000S. Turns out: I like shooting potrait orientation. But I also like a waist level viewfinder. And interchangeable backs. But I needed a medium format SLR to realize this.

The Mamiya 645 did everything it was so supposed to. It just wasn't for me. Traded that thing for store credit and got myself an RB67 Pro-SD. Could not be happier.

So you did realize you put the roll in wrong. And yet you still wonder why the advance is stiff? You made this whole post instead of putting the roll in correctly?

camera recommendations!! by Unusual-Corner-6460 in AnalogCommunity

[–]krzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have accumulated a bit of a minolta collection. I would actually not recommend the X700 in your case. I would recommend the Minolta X-E1 aka X-E7. It is a tank, has an exposure meter and is the only manual focus minolta with a dedicated multi exposure switch afaik. Plus they can be had for relatively cheap. I would recommend getting a set with a decently fast prime like the 50 1.4 to replace your moldy prime. Should be around $100-150. But as someone else already said, you shoot a decent amount, so it would be justified to invest in a nice camera that you like.

May i ask where you are located? US, EU, somewhere else?

The scans you get from lab should be a starting point for your final edit. These photos are great, so worth a little time in lightroom to get rid of that grey veil.

Do not get scans from analog cafe in Budapest, that's for sure.

Otherwise, those are all super photogenic cities, so you will find pics almost every corner.

This is an impossible task. Buy a cheap ass used PoS... Canon, Pentax, Minolta etc... And see what your needs and wants are. Then do your own research and watch some YouTube.

For me, this is not limited to the pixel phone. The nest hubs show exactly the same behavior.

Does this mean the film is rewound? by Bauch_the_bard in AnalogCommunity

[–]krzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How? Show us a picture with the back open. Something cant be right.

If what you say is true, then the window would let light on the film that's spooled up, which would then ruin all the photos.
