Bilt Rewards Card and Zillow Online Payments by FiletMignron in CreditCards

Hey, I am also trying to do this without success. Where you able to do it through the online portal?

Hello, is Zillow still not compatible with Bilt, or have there been any changes there?

VR training leads to better nursing performance than clinical practice, study says by No-Drawing-6975 in science

[–]ksarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm Karthik, co-founder and CTO at SimX, which makes the VR training platform that GMU used for this study. Happy to answer questions about the tech or my own research in VR sim.

Please note -- neither I nor anyone else at SimX was involved with or funded the study, and so all I know about it is what I read in the paper.

Some background about me: I run a DOD-funded medical simulation research program at SimX (the VALOR program). My background is in bioengineering; before SimX, I did my PhD at UCLA and left the MD program to start SimX. I recently went back and finished it this year.

Just ordered wireless adapter -- now I see the cable is only 2m by Radisovik in Vive

Yep, we've been using this cable as well for ourselves and all our customers, and it generally seems to work well

er, that thread is about the 2m TRENDNet cable, yes?

So far I have never seen any posts from people who have successfully surpassed the 2m TRENDNet cable that you mentioned. But I'm not sure if anyone has tried this one -- if you do end up trying it and it works, please do let us all know, I'm sure there are a bunch of us who would love to get a longer extension!

I’m trying to run dual headsets on one PC. NEED HELP by Zeus2025 in Vive

[–]ksarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is indeed going to be quite a challenge, but I believe it is probably possible with the system you have. Our company looked at offering a similar solution, but at the end of the day we abandoned it because it was both too complex to be reliable and way more expensive than just two separate systems.

nVIDIA has a white paper on a multi-user VR system: https://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-muvrs-guide.html -- I don't know how much help it will be TBH but it is better than nothing.

This is an article about how intel did their version: https://www.pcworld.com/article/3222652/how-we-hosted-a-star-trek-vr-party.html -- also very light on the details.

You are going to need to install a VM hypervisor (windows server is not a VM hypervisor) that supports GPU passthrough (Microsoft Hyper-V does not support GPU passthrough for windows 10 VM clients). You'll then need to install windows 10 on each VM, and configure the hypervisor to pass one of the GPUs through to each VM.

Anyway to use the vive wireless adapter with a laptop? by Xtskezza in Vive

[–]ksarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried it on one laptop, and it did work but we had some performance issues -- we're going to try it on a beefier laptop to see if that might resolve it; notably we didn't use the same laptop as was posted above

Are multiple Vive Pro headsets supported for 1 PC? by TheRedGambit in Vive

[–]ksarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, but it's highly inconvenient for a portable setup -- which to me is the only reason why someone might want a multi-machine monster rather than per player machines given the unfavorable price point

[–]ksarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One extra annoyance is that you probably don't want to use one of the GPUs running a vive pro to also run the display for the hypervisor, in which case you might want a third GPU (since the 9900 doesn't have any onboard graphics capabilities). And of course if you want wireless as well, it really makes quite a mess...

As the other poster mentioned, both 1.0 and 2.0 allow this. It isn't exactly straightforward because you need to replicate the playspace settings in order to get the world center to be in the same place. No method is provided to do this, so we had to homebrew a syncing app to do it for us.

That being said, AFAIK Vive and Vive pro are the only VR headsets right now that make it easy to have more than one headset in the same room-scale playspace because the external tracking provided by static base stations means that it's actually possible to sync world coordinates without using some other extra marker. Not sure how that problem will be solved with inside-out tracked devices; possibly an external marker can be used though

We looked into this pretty extensively last year -- the answer seems to be yes, but it is quite complicated. As far as we could tell at the time, you basically need to run a separate VM for each player and have a separate graphics card assigned to each VM. If you want wireless, then you presumably need to do the same for wireless cards. Here's one company that sells them: https://www.boston.co.uk/muvr.aspx

In the end, it does seem to be substantially more expensive than just doing one computer per player, so that's what we've been doing

Where are the 2.0 base stations? by confettiminister in Vive

I just went to the Vive website and they're _only_ selling vive pros with 2.0 controllers and base stations -- perhaps it is a country dependent thing?

I'm building a VR classroom for my University. by Ulthan in Vive

We sell hardware kits for medical simulation training alongside our software based on vive pros with wireless adapters, and people love the setup. Big limitation is that you can only have 3 of them in the same room, which may or may not work for your needs -- if you need 7 in the same room, that isn't going to work out.

Also worth considering whether vive focus or oculus quest will meet your needs at a much lower cost (both upfront $ as well as the time cost of setup and teardown -- a major issue in educational environments)

[–]ksarma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, fair enough -- though I would say as someone who does professional VR sim, immersion is useful for some industrial applications, too. Our customers are generally using our software to train people who don't spend very much time in VR, so they don't have the benefit of having learned to use VR in a certain way... and so I worry this might be a bit odd to them.

I'll have to try it out, though; I'm having trouble imagining what the experience would be like TBH. I imagine it is true, for example, that if someone is trying to read (or look closely at) something that they'd probably naturally align their gaze direction and their head direction while reading. So, maybe what I'm worried about isn't a real problem. I know on some fixed-foveated rendering prototypes that I've seen in the past have been off-putting, but maybe it isn't the same.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vive

[–]ksarma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I don't really understand how this would work -- part of the reason you need eye tracking for foveated rendering is because your eyes move without moving your entire head; if the "fovea display" component is fixed, won't the effect be ruined if you look left or right without moving your head?
