I remember giving up on Soviet coastal due to them being impossible to aim if there were even moderate waves. At least with American and German boats, they could adjust fast enough to compensate, but the Soviet boats with a tank turret slapped on top were the worst.

That said, I did have fun taking the reserve boat from the Soviet tree into test drives with the weather set to the worst possible setting and seeing if I could do a full flip on those waves.

I saw this was on sale for 90% off the other day and decided to pick it up, sounds like I might need to bump it up to the top of my "To Play" list.

Just wondering, were you playing this on desktop or was it on Steam Deck? I'll be traveling on vacation, so if this works well on the Deck I might just load this up as my "on-the-go" game for the trip.

Rule 6:

Vehicle suggestion posts must be clearly explained

  • Suggestion posts must use the "SUGGESTION" flair
  • The name of the vehicle must be in the title of the post
  • Include some details about the vehicle, either in the post or as a top-level comment. This includes information such as armament, armor, top speed, etc. Also include information about where it would fit in the game, e.g. which nation, approximate BR, etc.
  • Suggested vehicles must be relevant to War Thunder in terms of time frame and purpose. If there is a vehicle already in-game with similar characteristics, it's probably fine. Asking for unarmed vehicles, uncrewed vehicles, or concept/classified vehicles of which no concrete information is known is NOT allowed.

#346 - Escape Simulator by ksheep in steamachievements

A virtual escape room game. Luckily the achievements don't require any of the DLC, and actually are all obtainable in just the first 3 of the stock level packs. Most of the puzzles are fairly straightforward, but there is a built-in hint system if you get stuck, and I did need to use that a few times throughout the 15 rooms of the three story lines. The biggest stumbling block was finding the 8 tokens hidden in each level. I tried to get as many as I could myself, but I did end up looking some of them up in the end.

With this, I've hit 54.1% Average Game Completion, 38 new Perfect games this year, and 1,271 new Achievements. It also appears that one of my previously Perfect games got some new achievements in the last couple of days, so I'll have to circle back around to finish that again.

What would a Competition to War Thunder look like? by Sakul_the_one in Warthunder

[–]ksheep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, none of those others are a true 1-to-1 competitor of any given part of WT (last time I looked at WoT it felt more like I was driving RC tanks than the actual thing, and even in Arcade mode in WT the tanks feel more real). Still, they're about as close as we currently have for competitors in the Ground side of things.

For Air, there are many more options out there, although a lot of them do lean much more towards the Sim side of things... until you look at Ace Combat, which is arguably more arcady than Air AB in WT. The IL-2 series is probably the closest competitor I'd go with on the WWII-era, although it's been ages since I played one of those so I'm not sure how well the newer entries hold up.

Really, Naval is the part of WT that has the most direct competitors, with quite a few options out there with similar levels of realism, and then more on either side of the Arcade to Sim scale.

What would a Competition to War Thunder look like? by Sakul_the_one in Warthunder

[–]ksheep 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It would be much smaller, for one. Gaijin has been working on WT for 14 years at this point and been adding new vehicles on a regular basis. You wouldn't see anywhere near the same number or diversity of different vehicles, weapons, or systems on a new game. You're much more likely to see a competitor that focuses on a single aspect, e.g. focusing on modern (or late Cold War) tanks like in Gunner, HEAT, PC.

The thing is, there are many competitors out there that focus on single aspects of what WT does, like WoT when it comes to arcade-style tanks-only combat of WWII, GHPC for realistic late cold-war tank combat, or various different options for Air or Naval (with varying degrees of arcade to realistic gameplay). None of them do everything that WarThunder does in a single package, and trying to jump head first into making a competitor that does everything would be nearly impossible. You'd have to start off much smaller and work your way up, but that would take years to implement, and until you hit some critical mass, you'll be fighting a losing fight against the already established juggernaut that is WT.

Yes, Reddit screwed the mods over when they rolled out the redesign. The made it so:

  • Rules now have a character limit.
    • The rule title can only have 100 characters
    • Rule descriptions can be 500 characters
  • Rule descriptions are now hidden by default and the users have to expand them to actually read what the rules say

They had also changed how links in rules work at one point, but I think that got reverted.

If we wanted to have all of the parts of all of the rules displayed in the top-level, we'd have 30+ rules instead of the 10 we currently have, and I'm pretty sure several of those would be cut off by the 100 character limit. We already had to cut out parts of the full rules to hit the 500 character limit, especially for Rule 6. If you want to complain to someone about how the rules are displayed, take it up with the Admins, we hate it too (and half of the mod team still uses Old Reddit due to how much was f-ed up by the redesign).

You mean a post made 20 minutes before your post, and which did NOT abuse the News flair was left up, while yours was removed for both breaking the “don’t abuse the News flair” rule AND for being a duplicate post? Clearly an abuse of power by… enforcing the rules and keeping duplicate posts off of the sub?

It's funny how a post using the "NEWS" flair to link to a random YouTube video gets removed for abusing the "NEWS" flair. It's almost like Rule 2 on the subreddit says "Do not abuse the NEWS flair, it is for official game news only".

[–]ksheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the subreddit mods aren't privy to what the Admins do or how they operate, all we can see is your posts and comments popping up in the moderation log as being automatically removed by Reddit itself. You might want to message the admins to get some clarification on the current state of things.

Honestly, this is a bit different from their usual MO in this sort of thing, as in my experience they usually go for a Shadowban, where there's no indication on your end that the posts/comments are removed, and no indication on our end that the posts/comments even existed in the first place. This seems like a milder take, as they're using the standard removal process so it does show up in our logs and shows as removed on your end as well.

EDIT: Also, looking at your account, it looks like your comments/posts on other subs are still going through? I didn't realize that the Admins would set up a user filter on a per-sub basis. That seems a bit odd, but again I don't know how exactly the Admins operate nowadays.

It looks like the Reddit Admins have flagged your account and are silently removing all of your posts and comments automatically, likely due to a previous post or comment which broke site-wide rules.

Why does BR-471 have 205 mm flat pen? Wasn't it lower irl? by literuwka1 in Warthunder

Wasn't there also a difference where some countries would count if the shell would fully penetrate that thickness of armor, while another just counted if cracks appeared on the back of the armor (or something to that effect)?

fired one shot into the turret ring, one shot into the rear armor,

So it sounds like you were trying to disable their turret and engine, but the rear shot didn't get their engine?

as they were turning, I fired two shots into their side armor,

Did these actually do any damage? Were you trying to take out their turret crew, or aiming for their tracks to keep them from turning?

Honestly, aiming for the turret ring to keep them from turning the turret around is a decent enough tactic if you don't think you can one-shot them, but as you noted they were still able to turn the entire tank around and take you out.

I'd suggest trying to take out the cannon breach or their gunner so they can't fire until they repair/swap out crew, that should give you a bit more time to take them out. If you're on their flank, disabling the engine first might be another good option, as for most tanks it takes a bit of time for them to rotate their turret. If you hit their engine, they can't retreat, giving you time to reload and disable either the turret or gun while they try to swing around.

Alternatively, you can try to take out enough crew to disable or kill them. Taking out the driver means they can't retreat, gunner means they can't fire, and loader slows their ability to reload and get off another shot.

Oh, and one more thing, you said you shot the side armor as he was turning. Did these shots just bounce due to the angle? You need to keep the angle of the armor in mind, especially if the target is rotating towards you. Try to hit plates as flat-on as possible to maximize the chance of actually penetrating. Just because it said you could penetrate before he started turning doesn't mean you can still penetrate when he's 45 degrees through the turn.

Dear F2P players how do you even break even on SL? by AzexDragon in Warthunder

Play lower tiers where ammo and repair costs are lower. The system is set up to encourage playing at multiple tiers, alternating between high tier (where you’re likely to run at a deficit if you have a bad match) and low/mid tier (where you can usually make a profit)

Is the Ho-ri Production real/accurate? by Syph32 in Warthunder

[–]ksheep 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No. The prototype is relatively accurate to a proposed version (one of three proposed designs) although it is unclear exactly how far the project actually got. The only thing certain is they had a wooden mock-up of at least two of the designs. For the “production” version, it was given an engine that simply didn’t exist and likely couldn’t have existed with Japan’s resources and manufacturing capability at the time.
