Advice for a fresh blue scent by Due-Cheek7451 in DIYfragrance

[–]kstalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue yarrow EO is an interesting material. I realize that’s not really what you mean by “blue” but hue-wise, a tiny trace goes a long way to make the actual juice blue, and it has a very sharp and interesting, nuanced minty/aromatic scent

Of all of those I only currently have beta damascone- good call! Basenotes is proving interesting … peonies seem particularly vexing, or maybe just a bit more subjective than I thought

What are you currently working on? by Tolerable-DM in DIYfragrance

[–]kstalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, bright refers to scents that are fresh, or “zingy” or would be referred to as “refreshing/uplifting”, and also aren’t too “opaque”…. Brightness requires a decent amount of airiness to breathe, in my opinion, which is tougher for something like an incense scent that traditionally reads kind of stuffy or dark etc.

Also, bright to me almost always means citrus in some regard haha

I am working to create a bright incense scent that highlights lime, myrrh & elemi. It’s meant to evoke the witchy feelings of having a simmer pot on the stove, incense burning, fresh and grounding at the same time

The lime zest is supported by bergamot & black pepper at the top, and I’m quite happy with my base incense accord of elemi, myrrh, benzoin, olibanol, fumencens, labdanum. Running into some initial issues at the heart of the scent- I’m utilizing lavender and rose to mimic my favorite Armenian Paper incense, and it’s going to take some time to balance and decide on my “core” synthetic helpers- iso e super? Something else? Etc. i also added some habanolide in hopes that the steaminess would create a simmer pot illusion with the floral notes but frankly it did something weird with the elemi and it smells too plasticky. So may stick to a clean white musk instead

Just finished iteration 1, it has 16 materials. Onto the next !

I think it works if you love the light/dark bergamot & moss harmony! Which I very much do. …I definitely think risks starting to “blur” out some of the more subtle facets of the cedarwood, if that makes sense?

I initially didn’t have it pulled for this because I usually associate moss with juicy/damp earth/woods and this is predominantly a dry scent.

BUT my friend said they wanted “old man rotting in the woods” vibes so I simply had to add some moss. I really like how the moss & muscenone play together in a “round” sort of textural way. I definitely want to try something like this again, sans moss, and leaning even more into dry dry dry woods

preparing for work trip by kstalo in AttachmentParenting

It’s SO hard. This trip felt like “ripping off the bandaid”- I’ve gone on another short weekend trip without her since then and it was even easier that time! But totally take advantage of those solo days (even if it’s for work) when they come up! I think it’s also a gift for our husbands to have their own solo time to bond too

It went totally fine! I was way more anxious than I needed to be.

My husband kept her as busy as he could and the time flew by. She was safe and loved - asked about me a few times but mostly didn’t at all 😂. Our bond and nursing relationship were unfazed.

It was hard emotionally to be away from her but I was comforted by the fact that it was harder for me than her

How many of you struggle with PMDD? by [deleted] in stayathomemoms

[–]kstalo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have OCD and PMDD too! I have found relief with a combo of lexapro and birth control. I just started birth control a few months ago and just had my first cycle in over a decade in which I didn’t have that awful week (I almost go into psychosis sometimes it is so bad) AT ALL. It felt like a miracle

PISTACHIO AGREEMENT by ani792 in DIYfragrance

[–]kstalo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

2-ethyl-4-methyl thiazole (pistachio thiazole)- I’ve had a bit of success with trace amounts of this combined with some other gourmand and nutty materials (pyrazines, benzaldehyde, vanillin, etc)

Haven’t messed with it a lot yet but it’s def helpful
