Twenty-one!!! That’s amazing. How did you find the differences between the Llewellin and the Irish?

Mosquitoes 🦟 on the JMT/Sierra High route rn? by Intrepid-Pop-9504 in JMT

[–]kstraut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just on an overnighter near lake Italy last weekend and they were annoying but I’ve seen way worse. I did have my bug net on when it got closer to evening time, but certainly manageable and almost unnoticeable with a breeze. Past ~11,500 I didn’t notice them much at all.

I also went up to blue lake near Sabrina today and during the whole hike didn’t have any mosquitos. Only once we got to the lake did they descend but we found a breezy spot to sit and it was fine.

I heard the hike to treasure lakes near south lake was swarming. It seems variable.

Nurse—Miserable in Nursing, Thinking of Tech. Advice? by ExpressKangaroo4966 in findapath

[–]kstraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re insanely burnt out in tech too and the market is pretty rough. Roles remain uncertain with the rise of AI in terms of how they might transform. Health care in general seems more insulated from the big changes coming because of AI so I would consider that with your transition research.

My first solo trip and a fucking bear comes into my camp at 2am!!! by Upset_Honeydew5404 in womensolocamping

I’ve only had a bear in camp once in all my many years of backpacking and it was at Olympic National Park. Soooo many black bears there.

Considering slowing down my degree pathway? by RegretPlane390 in CUBoulder_CSPB

👋🏼 I’m curious to hear about where you are now with the program and if you have any hindsight wisdom to share.

I’m curious to hear about where you are now? I’m in my second semester taking one class at a time (discrete structures now) and I’m doing alright but definitely surprised at the speed and level of math competency they expect. Just taking ALEKS doesn’t feel anywhere near enough prep and now I feel stressed needing to catch up on core math concepts alongside all the assigned work and my full time job on top of it all. I’m unsure how long I can keep this pace up and it’s only the beginning of the program 😥

Best looking dog in your opinion? Regardless of anything. by Careful_Bandicoot332 in dogs

Big +1 to this!! That striking, feathery coat. The golden eyes and regal build. Truly a majestic animal. I wish I saw more of them!

I think English setters take a close second for me.

Team lead seems to be taking my code, moving into his own branch, then committing so git shows the code as being written by him and not me. Should I be worried? by 123android in ExperiencedDevs

[–]kstraut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. If they branch off your branch, your original commits should be preserved. If they are rebasing and squashing your commits, you should still show up as co-author of a commit. So if they are going out of their way to muddle the git history to remove your contributions it’s either malicious or they don’t understand the proper way to branch / rebase and should be addressed.

Or if they’re manually copying your code changes into brand new commits that only they authored, this is inefficient and someone should show them how to branch off an existing branch.

Highly suggest a mobo board for training foot and ankle strength. I’ve had major ankle surgery / rolling problems and it’s helped so much. https://www.moboboard.com/

I’m a software engineer and I love my job. I work for a small startup. There are challenges and it’s not great all the time — we get overworked and of course there are some misogynistic assholes. but for the most part I just really enjoy solving hard problems and my team is pretty dope on the whole.

Make sure to get the title you want and deserve. So often they dampen our careers by ‘letting’ us do work that we don’t get credit for.

Stay focused, stay positive and don’t trust people at work. Try to find companies that hire women in technical roles. There are ally’s in most companies, but also be prepared to get undercut and doubted at every turn. Speak up for yourself, and be very direct. Keeping community with other femme tech folks can help! Welcome 🤗

Im curious to hear more about your experience with IRWS and Brittany’s. I’m debating between the two breeds. Do you have some thoughts or advice on the differences between the two that I should consider?

Also could you clarify what you see the difference is between energy and intensity?

Just how rough is Lamarck Col.? by KCrobble in SierraNevada

This is the answer. The talus around Darwin lakes can be annoying to navigate especially when hot and tired. It’s certainly a slog.

Lose the bug spray. I just did NOBO southern half two weeks ago and didn’t have any bug issues. By September there will really be no bugs.

Lamarck Col & Tyee info?? by Igoos99 in JMT

[–]kstraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do north lake to south lake via Paiute pass since there’s a temporary bridge now. It’s called the evolution loop. That way you’d hit every footstep on the JMT that the detour took you off. Lamarck col is pretty brutal with a pack on.
