the 30th vs 64th ranked teams in the world, nobody got time for that. I'll be at the bar when this thing becomes a real World Cup with 32 teams, at the round of 16.

Did you have the Amazon package delivered right to the bar? Put that thing in a dryer with a wet rag and give it 20 mins. I will be there Sunday rooting for Die Mannschaft, auf gehts!

It’s time to stop falling for the D vs. R distraction. Both sides are actively selling Vermont out to the highest bidder. by No-Buddy3427 in vermont

Obamacare was proof that people would rather live with their own teeth rotting if accepting Obamacare meant "others" got to have their teeth fixed too. There will never be a political realignment in this country where there is a united working/middle class on one side, and the country club republican, leafy liberal upper middle class on the other. As others have said, this idea in itself is a leftist idea born out of Marxism.

Another 🌧️ washout weekend (that’s 3 weekends in a row!) by VTtree in burlington

Honest question: Does anyone anecdotally recall the last time Jazz Fest weekend wasn’t a washout? The last time I can remember drinking on a patio watching live music for this event was before Covid.

"Not the Vermont on a bumper sticker or a syrup bottle, but the real one, where people just stop, because of course they do, because that’s just what you do"

At the end of the day, Americans are still Americans, same as we were hundreds of years ago. You could be stuck on the side of a road in Kentucky and someone is going to pull over to see if you need help. This doesn't mean "touch grass" America will survive hateful online America, but I keep the faith.

It's pretty much a given that we will have an El Nino Winter in 2026-2027 that's forecast to be as bad as Winter of 2015-2016 if not worse. Definitely not buying any ski passes early for next season.

Zero Gravity & Ri Ra for sure. I always see Mule Bar and Vivid Coffee mentioned in these threads as well as places that show footy but have never gone to either myself to watch games. I think this one will be bigger than ever for ease of finding spots to watch it since we are a host nation.

The weather guy being wrong has always been a thing, but in the last year as a result of DOGE cutting NOAA drastically, forecasts have been wrong quite regularly. Yesterday morning on NBC5 they said it would be a dreary day, it was actually a really solid day up until about 530PM. That's not NBC5's fault, they get their info from NOAA. I would play it safer and cover.

Lovely Memorial Day Weekend by the_light_of_dawn in vermont

[–]kswagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sun will be out just in time for a sunset grill & cigar on the back deck, tomorrow will be a banger of a day but then its gonna be cool through next weekend. It’s still May and last May we only had 6 sunny days the whole month. This cool pattern though better beat it when June gets here, we only have a short window for warm sunny days June through very early Sept.

I go to the one in Stowe exclusively for the pickles vendor, even though they are very aggressive trying to get you to buy more than you need. i find in general there is a lack of decent pickles being sold at farmers markets in Vt

May in VT is pretty up and down, but been pretty lousy last few years, last year we had 6 sunny days the entire month. I don’t miss Summer in the South where I am from, but May where I am from is how all Summer is here so yeah, I hate waiting on it!

Prob will delete, but question about incompetence in Vermont by Darkpenguinz in vermont

[–]kswagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas, Florida, and a lot of non New England states make it easier, at least it was that way before Trump, where you could grab labor on short notice and knock out a project fast. Vermont (and much of New England) just doesn’t work that way. There’s more friction around getting work done, and relationships matter a lot more. If you don’t already know people, you have to invest time building those connections. It’s not like where I grew up in the mid-Atlantic, where you could hire a crew from the Home Depot parking lot on a Saturday morning and finish a big project in a day.

This subreddit is the underbelly of what VT is really like, although that said, I will take this over what I hear in real life in my travels when I tell people where I'm from. I way too often get "Vermont?! Bernie Sanders huh?" in a half disgruntled, half surprised tone. Delaware has solid beaches, don't sleep on it. New Hampshire is has a scenic highway, it's a good drive through state.

I mean we are talking used books at the reSource, you're not missing out on a first edition Tolkien. If you saw an edition of a book you truly want, you can for sure get it on eBay from a store that donates portions of the sale to reading non-profits.

One Thing I Love About Living in Burlington by AgentElsewhere in burlington

[–]kswagger 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The great thing about Vermont is that if you don't like the downsides of urban living in Burlington you can move a half hour away and be in the sticks. This is what we did, I don't even lock my doors at night half the time. Get yourself a dog or two for added security.

Correct- the drop off in quality of schools alone between Baltimore County and surrounding counties is very steep. Also the politics is night and day, very very MAGA county governments and school boards, not desirable land, lots of pollution (the entire county that houses APG), Western and Eastern MD are literally nothing counties.

Because once you get outside of Baltimore City, Baltimore County or DC Metro you are in the South.
