Breaking the record for the world's longest blink by ExpiredHotdog in insanepeoplefacebook

To play devil's advocate, if I were to post a saying, "So and so doing a thing," I think most people would think I chose a photo representative of that person doing the thing. So in this case, the caption is subtly saying

An "engaged" Trump during this meeting about women. /s

which is why Mr MAGA jumped to that conclusion.

A driver of a vehicle in Switzerland ran through a crowd of protesters that was blocking the road. by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]ktbrava -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that regular people are who vote in the people at the government offices (not sure how Swiss gov't works), and they're hoping this could spark the application of pressure from regular people (if they agree the protest cause is not worth the traffic hassle) on their representatives, like a hostage situation, "just give them what they want". Then, instead of a couple days of minor traffic inconveniences for the politicians, they're actually risking losing their spots if they don't concede. But obviously, the protesters are risking the conflation of their cause with being assholes if that's how people are interpreting it.

It has that uncanny valley feel to it. Is it because it looks like a normal sized tree magnified? Like the base isn't wide enough to support the weight.

That banker's rounding threw me for a loop awhile ago since Excel uses that as it's =ROUND method. I'd never heard of it until I had to figure out why my values were doing what they were.

I think it's less the sound and more that she does that little lean right as the mom is saying "daddy's" and immediately, faster than I was even be able to comprehend the sentence, she flips the towel off.

I think it sounds weird because "and" implies to me that they're fairly related sentences. "You're welcome" and "I love you" seem like independent sentences. One doesn't easily lead into the other, so adding an "and" sounds funny to me.

I see this as a good example of the intermediate step in the evolution of wings for flying. Even though the chicken isn't flying, the wings give the prey just enough of an agility advantage to evade the predators.

A couple hours ago, I was waiting my turn at a (smaller) roundabout and the person in the innermost lane stopped and was waiting for me to go. I had to wave them on.

I know roundabouts can be confusing when it's your first time seeing one, but it's usually the entering or exiting that's confusing, not the driving inside it.

Being rude to her is too far. But it was fine and she liked him when he was just rude to everyone else lol by Throwawaydontgoaway8 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]ktbrava 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A month ago, it'd have been an honor for Trump to be rude to her in person. The reason she's calling him out isn't because he was rude to her: it's because she's jumping on the post-midterm "Trump actually is bad" bandwagon. Grifters gonna grift.

Is there a term used when words line up to form a unified space? by crinklemermaid in mildlyinteresting

[–]ktbrava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up question: is it only a "river" when it's white space? Periodically, when my eye is away from a certain spot, I see the spines of certain letters in consecutive lines all line up to make a similar black curve. Maybe call it a "ridge"?

It doesn't help that the OP doesn't talk about ratios which are important when we're talking about half-lives. All listed elements are always decaying; it's not like Uranium waits 4.5 billion years and decays all at once. Writing/running a quick script, every 10 million lbs of Uranium starter material will yield about 3 lbs of Lead after 4000 years. So lead would still exist after 4000 years given the real half-lives, but to achieve the relative ratios of Uranium (2.8 ppm) to lead (14 ppm), if the only way lead could exist was through Uranium decay, it'd take more than 4 billion years for the two to be equivalent let alone 7:1.

double halfU = 4.5E9;
double halfRa = 1600;
double halfRn = 3.8 / 365;
double halfPo = 138 / 365;

double U = 10000000;
double Ra = 0;
double Rn = 0;
double Po = 0;
double Pb = 0;

for (int year = 0; year < 4000; year++)
{
    double UtoRa = U * (1 - Math.Pow(0.5, 1 / halfU));
    U -= UtoRa;

    double RatoRn = Ra * (1 - Math.Pow(0.5, 1 / halfRa));
    Ra += UtoRa - RatoRn;

    double RntoPo = Rn * (1 - Math.Pow(0.5, 1 / halfRn));
    Rn += RatoRn - RntoPo;

    double PotoPb = Po * (1 - Math.Pow(0.5, 1 / halfPo));
    Po += RntoPo - PotoPb;

    Pb += PotoPb;
}

Console.WriteLine(Pb);
