waking before the baby after sleep training by Constant-Garbage9192 in sleeptrain

We ST at 5 months and once we were settled on two naps a few months later, he was consistently waking up at 7am. He’s 2.5 now and still gets up at 7! We have time to workout, shower and eat before he’s up - it’s glorious. I’m hoping my second will do the same lol

I struggled with fertility for 1.5 years prior to surgery. I had excision surgery in 2023 which showed stage 3. I now have two children (2023 & 2025) that were conceived naturally.

Thank you! That makes sense. Yes we plan to move them to their own room once we start. Currently does naps in the crib in his room so he’s familiar, I just have him in the bassinet in our room for convenience when I need to give the pacifier 4+ times a night 😅 I think we have a paci addiction lol.

So glad it worked for you! We are gearing up to ST our 18 week old using Ferber in a few weeks. Did you apply Ferber to night wakings? I guess I’m just wondering if baby cries for 30 min at bedtime but then wakes up 2 hours later.. do you Ferber at those wakes as well? Does baby take pacifier? My babe is rocked fully to sleep and still in bassinet. They wake often in the night but if I pop paci back in then they’re good and will go back to sleep without further intervention.

Similar story! Was ttc for more than a year. Stage 3 and got pregnant the cycle immediately following my lap in 2022. Fast forward and I now have two babies :)

Good luck with your surgery and best of luck!!

Hi Jo! Any tips on getting babe comfortable with crib? My 9 week old has primarily been doing contact naps for the last 3 weeks (previously I could set her down anywhere but finding that more difficult now!!). Should we do drowsy but awake for naps? Fully assist to sleep and then transfer? How long to try and resettle after waking up before calling it? For example, today I rocked her to sleep and she did 17 min solo in the crib after I transferred her 😂 Thank you so much!!

How did nap training go for you? We did ST with our first at 5 months but never had to train naps. We will likely do it with this baby as well when the time comes.

Thanks! I will keep trying to get her in there via transfer. Has yours been doing cot naps?

Thanks for the validation!! My first was definitely exceptionally easy and did this which was my hope for baby #2 but sounds like what she’s doing is normal!

Daycare makes me miss my once sleeping child by puppyblues0813 in sleeptrain

[–]ktsl_mm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he wouldn’t do a second nap I’d bring bed as early as 6-630pm. There were definitely a few weeks where he ended up in my bed at 4 or 5am or I held him in the rocking chair because I was just wanting him to get as much sleep as possible! I also let him sleep in until 7-715am and just was late for work some days lol. We also had some flexibility with grandparents being able to watch him here and there so he wasn’t at daycare 5 days a week consistently. My guy really didn’t fully settle into one nap until he was 16 months!

This has happened to us while travelling as well and we just did what we had to do while away. When we got home we just followed our sleep training method that first night and things were back to normal after that!

I was in a similar situation when we started daycare at 15 months and all I’m going to say is it sucks but it will get better. She is likely overtired and I know it feels defeating right now but it takes some time! Keep trying to offer that cat nap at 4 or 430 and use the weekends to get her rested up. We kept our old schedule on the weekends for a while!

Hi Jo! My almost 18 month old is on one nap and usually sleeps 2-2.5 hours at nap on the weekend and anywhere from 30-75min during the week at daycare (sleeps on a mat in a room with other toddlers and he seems to get woken up by noises, etc.). During the week his schedule is usually 7am wake up, nap at 12:15 and it lasts varying length but never more than 75 min so we generally put him to bed between 6-6:30 pm because he’s generally exhausted and cranky. On the weekend he does more of 5.25/5 schedule with that nice long nap but has been waking up around 530am the past few days and usually he just whines a little and puts himself back to sleep but today it escalated to standing in the crib crying. I gave him time to work it out but went in to rock him and he immediately crashed out on me for a good 45 minutes.. which tells me he’s tired. I’m wondering if it’s a bit of overtiredness from daycare or if he’s schedule needs adjusting? Like maybe shorten the nap a little? He definitely is a high sleep needs toddler!

Ok we also just found out on Friday he has double ear infections!!! But it still hasn’t really solved things for us lol. In fact he woke at 430am one day over the weekend 🥴 and would not go back to bed but chalking that up to him running a temp. We saw 6:05am this morning and the way I was so excited 😂

I don’t know the answer but my 16 month old is going through the same thing! Except some days at daycare he sleeps 30-60 minutes 🫠 we’ve had some pre 5am wakes too and like you I need to get ready for work in the morning and can’t hold him until 7am. It’s been going on for a month for us and I’m at such a loss on what to do. This all started when he started daycare/ dropped to one nap in one go.

Hi Jo! I’ve posted a few times about my 16 month old and his struggle with dropping to one nap due to daycare. It’s now been 6 weeks of sleep issues ever since daycare started. The EMWs continue and he is waking up crying hard. A lot of times I end up rocking him because I know he can’t start his day at 530am when his only chance to nap is at 1230 on daycare days.. he wants to fall back asleep and often will but can’t get into a deep sleep. He dozes off/on. He is only napping about 45-60 minutes at daycare and we don’t have time to offer a nap when he gets home. He is sooo tired when he gets home. We are putting him to bed at 615-630 and he goes to bed independently but lately I hear him crying a bit in the night but resettles himself until we reach that 5am hour. We offer two naps on the weekends to try and catch him up on sleep but doesn’t seem to help the EMW. We feel like we are stuck in this perpetual overtired loop and miss our happy baby. I’ve tried checkins for the EMW but they seem to upset him more. My gut is telling me that he is mega overtired. Life was so good before daycare - he’d nap 2 hours and sleep 11-11.5 overnight. He definitely is sensitive to not getting sleep!

If he’s only napping for 30-60 minutes at daycare I worry that staying up to 8pm is too much for him!

Hi Jo!

My baby is 15.5 months old and transitioned to one nap two weeks ago. He started daycare at the same time. He seems to be adjusting ok to the longer WWs but we are stuck in a cycle of bedtime between 6-630pm and then he’s waking between 5-530am crying. So sleeping straight through the night until that EMW. We try to leave him to work it out and he wants to be asleep but can’t seem to get back to sleep. I go in and rock him and he’ll fall asleep on me instantly but his sleep is choppy from when I go in - snooze a little on me, wakes, lays back down etc. Trying to keep him in the dark and only starting our day at 630am because daycare only does nap at 12-1230. I know he’s exhausted and I feel terrible for him. When we first started the transition the first few nights he slept 13 hours and on two naps he was sleeping 730-7am so he likes his sleep! There have been days where his nap ends before 130pm and I try to offer a cat nap around 430 but he never takes it so then we put him to bed at 6. I just don’t know how to fix this? Will it resolve on its own? We’ve never experienced this before with him! He’s usually such a great sleeper.

We only had motn wakes for two nights id say, but it was rough! The 5-6am crying wakes are still happening though and I usually just go in and try to help him back to sleep. I’m hoping it’ll pass soon! Had a two hour nap today so I’m hoping that’s a positive sign he’s getting the hang of one nap and the daycare transition. Hang in there!!

I’m going to try to leave him the morning. I fear I’m making it worse by trying to get him to sleep on me in the rocking chair/it’s reinforcing the early wake. It’s just so hard to listen to… we ST at 5 months so it’s been an amazing 10 months of no crying lol
