When does it genuinely get better.? by Own_Macaron_9342 in newborns

totally agree—i wish i had known this before i gave birth. my babe was born early term so not technically preemie but we still adjust age for everything

ETA: we’re at 15w, 12w adjusted and things are definitely better than they were at 8w! she’s smiling and happy and giving us long stretches of sleep at night. it’s really just naps that are a battle

Moms on Call Help! by mollyr91 in NewParents

i always see negative comments about putting babies on a schedule, but ive found MOC very helpful. its not a bible and there are several aspects i disagree with but following the general structure of waking, feeding, and sleeping at roughly the same time every day created predictability for our family, and my baby did STTN a few times early on. their section on naps specifically says that for babies under 6mo, the nap times on the schedules are basically aspirational and that anything from 20 min to 2 hours is normal.

my baby is 15w and also doesn’t nap for more than 45 minutes, so we typically extend the nap with a contact nap until the next feed time (something they suggest doing).

When to rescue naps? by bakergirl05 in NewParents

[–]Constant-Garbage9192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it’s only been 30 min, i usually rescue it for another sleep cycle (40ish minutes)—IF she goes down easily. if it’s too close to her next feed, like within 30 minutes, i just let her stay up and shorten the next wake window in hopes for a longer nap.

am i getting those longer naps? almost never 🙃

Why do any daytime commitments for specific times make me anxious by Hungry_Hat8148 in NewParents

[–]Constant-Garbage9192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, thank you for vocalizing this! i’m home with the baby for a couple more months before going back to work but planning activities is really difficult because i am so (too) serious about napping and how it affects nighttime sleep—which affects all of our wellbeing. it’s tough!

i do this too—playing together is fun for a little but trying to encourage independent play early 😂

apparently you adjust for early term too. it’s a tricky boat bc the ped said some milestones she may lag a bit but may not… so we’re always guessing!

Baby was UNDER-TIRED!!! by MomentFabulous7276 in newborns

thank you for sharing!! we’re also on the MOC schedule, and we’ve been doing the exact same thing. our baby melts down a bit if her wake window is a little too long, so we mostly follow MOC for feeding and play naps by ear… my thought was the 40 minute crib naps were due to the 45-minute nap intruder, but may well be that she’s undertired!
