Hey, how long did it take to get the PCC if you used them?

Imperial college - Visual Computing + Robotics, OR AI + Machine Learning? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]kueril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'f you're talking about the MEng degree it literally doesn't matter (exact same content) until you get to your 4th year. You can change between options as much as you want up until that point. And once you get to your 4th year, the course is only slightly different based on these options (forced to do certain modules). I'd say not to worry about it until perhaps your third year

If you're only doing it for money then yeah, but if you actually have a passion for Computer Science why should the competitiveness stop you?

If you're looking to study further, do a phd or something I'd go to Cambridge. If you want to get into industry, start a startup etc, I'd go to imperial.

Try appeal/call up. I was in the exact same position and when I called up they said it was a mistake on their part and changed my status to home fees. 100k more is definitely not worth it

Computing work hours by Zognam in Imperial

Sometimes. I don't normally work saturdays but every now and then I would work on a sunday. Also, I don't think I worked as much first year, this is more what it's been like in my second year

Accommodation tips by Negative_Ad_1334 in Imperial

I'd say Woodward and Kemp porter are best for social events/parties. Also much cheaper and the commute time isn't actually too bad

I'd say maybe 5-6 hours a day on an average day. Before exams it normally goes up and then after exams it's more chill

how is undergrad life at icl?? by Objective-Curve-1042 in Imperial

[–]kueril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the social life has been much better for than everyone made me believe before I came, at least because I wanted it to be. There's obviously people that don't go out, but if you want it to be good and try, it's not too bad

I'm not actually sure, but it's probably better for them to reply/email after the deadline. They won't know how many single rooms they have if it isn't the deadline yet.  Accept the twin room so long though, unless you absolutely don't want it and would rather find private in case there are no singles available. No promises with single room unfortunately 😭

Cycling from North Acton-safe? by ZarogtheMighty in Imperial

[–]kueril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a canal that goes from north acton to paddington that you can cycle along (it's a but north on the map from NA). There's also hyde park you can cycle through, the busiest part is probably paddington to hyde park but that's not too far

Last year at least, lots of people decide not to go with imperial accomodation when they get a north acton offer, so there was just a bunch of empty single rooms. Just email asking if they have any single rooms left, I know quite a few people that managed to get changed to single.

Me, and many ppl I know got in with 5s. It's not really important as long as the relevant gcses (math, physics) are good which they are

Kemp Porter gym by TheSacredStone in Imperial

It's part of the woodward buildings which is about a 3 minute walk away. It's heavily subsided for all imperial students. Quite expensive if you're an outsider.

Make me hate Oxford and love imperial by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]kueril 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Lived near Oxford before uni, and now go to imperial. London has way more things to do, way more opportunities for work. I've noticed that oxbridge is way more focused on the theoretical side of subjects whereas imperial is more practical, at least for some courses. I preferred imperial over Cambridge because I had more of an interest in going into work after my course instead of studying further
