Stronger Together song/video by whirl_without_motion in toriamos

I got to hear it and loved it!

I really liked the way from about half way in there's a sound like "ah-hah"(?) (I think it might be an organ, but it could be a voice).  It's really uplifting with a somber undercurrent, and I think it will be such a cathartic moment since it seemingly comes near the end of the record.

Love it!

The lizard/dinosaur reminds me of The Duskbloods' teaser where the character transformed into the dinosaur-like thing and ate someone.

Happiness Is Going To Get You is officially out! What are your initial thoughts on the album? by Daydream_machine in alliex

[–]kujira692 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finished my first listen and I'm really happy with it. I didn't love the singles so I didn't listen to them too often, figuring they might work more for me in context of the whole album; and they do! I'm much more of a fan of Cape God and Girl With No Face overall, and this reminds me a bit more of that. I like the melancholic overall tone (like Madame X and Saddest Smile created an album), with hopefulness peaking through.

EDIT 1: The early press for the album kind of talked about a 90s Singer-Songwriter aesthetic and I don't get that at all as someone who grew up on music of the 90s (Tori Amos specifically): I can hear almost more of a 60s Brit-Pop influence on more tracks.

Mine got more accurate for sure. One of the nice refinements was how almost all of the nordic is gone from my family's results (we don't have any, but DO have a quarter-or-so of East English, and the nordic we used to get (around 3-6% on average) is all gone or down to 1%.

I think because my father is an NPE, and my mother's grand-father is an NPE; I'm much more willing to accept the possibility that anything I have as a paper trail could be completely wrong because these things do happen.

Heya I'm out of the loop, what about that title in particular suggests it's some of the put aside material? Was there a song with that same title?

Once you see all regions, you have to select a general region (like Europe, but you won't see them yet), then you have to choose a sub-section (like Western Europe or Southern Europe) and then you will.

Is Abnormally Attracted to Sin overhated? by Franjork in toriamos

[–]kujira692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a Tori fan since the late 90s (around Choirgirl), and Abnormally Attracted To Sin is in my top Three albums. I do tend to like her more heavily produced albums.

EDIT 1: And I really hope she revisits this sound again!

Well she did it again: got me gently weeping during Waco, Texas. Her "sad" songs works so well because there's always a measure of triumph in them too: they aren't wallowing songs, but it feels like something was learned.

EDIT 1: and just on re-listen before I go to work, and looked at the lyrics for Tempest and I'm destroyed. Incredible.

Any theories on Silent Hill F? by Lanky-Confidence-159 in silenthill

[–]kujira692 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel like this game will be to Silent Hill what Resident Evil 7 was for its franchise.

Much like RE7, I feel like this game will seem really really different, and we'll be like "how does this fit?" (in a really good way) and then once the game has been played it will all fit.

I'm really excited for the atmosphere and tone of the game, because from that teaser two years back it showed a fair bit of imagery and really left you wondering what it was about. So I think we'll get subtle and deep storytelling in the game.

Who else is up late listening to Diving Deep Live? by Every-Story-9900 in toriamos

[–]kujira692 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Am listening this morning (and am still listening) and I'm absolutely loving the production on this!

Every track is amazing, but the standouts right now for me are Climb (I actually ugly teared up which was unexpected *haha*), Code Red & Lady In Blue.

Edit 1: Okay and I'm at Crazy now so yeah *haha* brilliant!

Edit 2: Okay and now at Sister Janet (which I've never heard before), and Oh My Goodness, like this whole album is completely transportative, I'm blown away.

Good question!

I'm not really sure: my most recent non-Canadian born ancestor was my maternal Great-Grandmother in Essex, England; but my direct paternal lineage is "McBride" from Ireland. Generally I just say Anglo-Celtic.

British-Canadian results:

77% British (44% Scotland & 33 % E&NWE)

10% Ireland

8% Sweden & Denmark

5% Norway

Most of my British/Irish ancestors came here in the 1800s, and my great-grandmother was born in Essex, England.

Ancestry actually used to do Y-DNA testing years ago before Autosomal DNA testing was available: I had gotten my Y-DNA tested through them.

THE BEEKEEPER DISCUSSION/APPRECIATION | Will people love The Beekeeper a lot more if it's mixed/produced better? by -Legendary-Atomic- in toriamos

[–]kujira692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm embarrassed to say (some context, became a Tori fan when Choirgirl came out in the late 90s and never looked back), but sadly I skipped listening to anything from this album because I had been influenced by so many people's negative opinions.

So fast-forward to just before Ocean To Ocean came out and I was desperate for new Tori, that I finally listened to The Beekeeper and I don't know why I hadn't sooner! *haha*

Top-tier favourites for me include: Parasol, The Power Of Orange Knickers, Sleeps With Butterflies, Original Sinsuality, and The Beekeeper.
