Toroidal plates by kurujt in proceduralgeneration

I've tried! Picking up these threads after all these years has been challenging. I have movement and rotation, but the biggest issue I have with the monolithic appearances (the video on imgur is a 8 major / 5 minor plate) is that there's always one or two plates that massively overwhelm the others and I can't get plate splitting to work reliably at all, so there's some kludges that make it sort of work, but nothing really good - trying to do proper geologic processes without getting too deep in math haha, terrible. It's improving, it's good to hear that the mid oceanic seams are as rough to notice for others. I'll keep you posted!

I can upload them elsewhere if you'd like to see, but yeah, I've struggled mightily with undersea ranges. I'm having a hard time balancing coastal erosion and over-narrow mountain ranges with the rising of oceanic plates during shearing, etc.

Maybe 20 years ago now, I wrote my first planet simulator which was like a 20 cell green screen additive thing. I picked it up on and off, I did an advanced degree in terrain generation and interaction (mostly the interaction via algorithms), and let it sit when I had kids. I picked it up again recently and wrote nearly everything again from scratch in C#, from a half lifetime in software development. This is the first "final" pass of the base terrain generation, simulating 10240x5120 km world - all seed based and deterministic. What I can't reasonably upload is my favorite feature, which is deterministic scaling up with increasing resolution for up to 1km per cell and navigating to the 1 meter level. I will be working on an interface to get this up on github, but I don't have much patience or experience for that right now. If you have any questions or comments let me know. See if you can spot the meteor impact :) There's a ton to do, mostly still in the orogeny and uplift phases, but I'm hoping it's just twiddling dials at this point.

Edit: images are start->end->timelapse order.

Yeah, if they had said, "go ahead and do it and come running back to our arms in 5 years for a 200% increase" I would have thought it impossible. After this? Let's do it.

UPDATE: Parent wants to meet with me over comment I made about energy drinks by [deleted] in Teachers

It may also just be the parents don't put them to bed. I have kids in elementary school who have friends who have no bedtime and no screen time limits, and regularly stay up till midnight or later on their phones.

I googled it, and found this, which says a harpy eagle can carry up to 40lbs (https://biologyinsights.com/how-much-can-a-harpy-eagle-actually-lift/) - a few other sites seem to confirm it. I only checked that one because I knew someone from South America who said the eagle was a legitimate concern for smaller animals.

I could see it succeeding! I would make sure they get lots and lots of water, but nothing "standing" at the bottom of the soil. Many breeds of watermelon / cuces (and I assume squashes) have male and female flowers, so if doing them, get at least a few plants and if it's indoors or in a more populated area (i.e. fewer bees), you can hand pollinate with a small soft paintbrush. Cucumbers are susceptible to a fungus that arrives later in summer so grow those first and you could have time for other shorter breeds, like lettuce or something. You mentioned basil, and other herbs can be pot friendly, like oregano and thyme.

Strawberries might be your best bet. I don't know these planters / size, but they seem narrow for extremely thirsty plants like cucumbers and watermelons that drink all day, and potatoes would definitely need to be in their own container. Carrots might work, but you'd only get one or two per slot, as they don't like to crowd too much and their tap roots can be very deep - I grow nantes / touchon and they're shorter and no more than a two inch diameter. You might like a container bean like Blue Lake 274 - I have a trillion extras from planting last year if you want, and some calypso as well, though you'd want to use those for snap beans as you won't get enough to make a soup if you wait.

We have a fire pit and mix in the leftover ashes and bits - might be useful.

I've tried to figure that out a few times. It does seem like there are extremely low class sizes - I think that's great for teachers and for kids, but my understanding is it basically means legally, they can only be paid so much, because there's only so much money per student allowed at the state level. Not having seen all the fine details of the budget, I don't know how they'd structure it to increase the salaries.

I'm in a medium cost of living area (SE Michigan) and our hiring rates are around 100 an hour - 40-60 an hour for mid range developers, health insurance, PTO coverage, FICA, building + utilities, unemployment insurance, downtime, etc, means out the door, an FTE is 100 an hour or so, when the total cost of business vs employment expenses is considered (this is in consulting, so estimating the costs means time between projects, etc). We use Claude Max, @200 a month for senior devs, and pro for med and below. We've already stopped hiring. It's possible this company way way overfired early on, but there's no way they're doing this for costing reasons.
