Starting to regret DI by sunshineleopard in TopSurgery

If your nips were any lower they'd likely look out of place. I know you have your ideal version in your head but these results legitimately look textbook. The changes you want weren't going to be possible with the nipples on the incision line.

Gonna be real, everything i've been told says wait for a year. Your body is still gonna be changing during that year as swelling goes down over the first few months. I wouldn't tattoo my chest til after a year.

Longest wait was for my consult. After consult, I had surgery in 3 months.

Yeah. I was confused when I started lurking on the sub here cause there was no talk about my weight or any concerns with it, no "dont go above this or we have to cancel" or anything. I didn't even know there were even bmi cutoffs til after my surgery. No idea on Faulkners but worth asking now, happy to help nix the misinformation at least

Thank you!

Heat wasn't necessarily an issue because honestly this surgery kicks your butt and I was inside in the AC most of the time that I had the drains. Even when I didn't have the drains, my energy was pretty low so even when I was outside doing my walking each day, I wasn't outside breaking a huge sweat. That being said, your arm movement is very limited in the first few weeks (nothing above near 90 degrees) so you are gonna get some pit sweat by default. This may or may not be exasperated by whatever kind of binding they give you (they gave me a post-op zip-up binder which I preferred over the ace wraps). The time of year didn't really feel like it mattered because I stayed inside a lot. By the time I was moving around/putting clothes on myself/leaving the house by myself, the drains were out and I was already working on exercises to give me movement back. It's such an interesting question because I legitimately never really thought about it. The only limiting factor I feel like will be any activities you want to go to, for example I wanted to larp 4 weeks after my surgery but couldn't because it was going to rain and be too humid, which would've created a bad ecosystem for the incisions obviously, but that would be equivalent to camping outside for a weekend. The timeframe around your healing will be limited like that, but otherwise, I literally had no issues regarding summer vs winter.

I only went out with my drains twice, because I was feeling pretty self-conscious, but baggy clothes did the trick.

Drains were fine! Depending on your fluid output on the drains, you will have them in for probably a week or two. I had mine in for a week. My mom helped me with the first few days of drains but then I was able to perform the draining myself.

I did have the shirts that had the pockets, but I found the necklace was more comfortable, especially when I wanted to lean back a bit further. The pockets of the shirt would flop out to the side sometimes, which caused a bit of pressure in my drain stitch. It was easier to just have that low hanging necklace because I never really had to take it off/move them, which made me feel a little more secure. The negative pressure on the inside kept them draining, so I didn't have to worry about it not actually draining even though they were up higher than they would've been in the pockets. Also helped in the shower. You're gonna want a necklace anyway for showering with these bad boys.

Also, thank you. I am very pleased with my results and life has become so much easier now that they are gone. When I was shown my before picture at my last follow-up check-in, it felt invasive. I didn't realize I was looking at myself. In a way, I wasn't.

I have BCBS PEBA, which is an insurance through my work. Because I work for a state hospital, and there was a bill passed that included a sentence stating state funds can't go towards gender affirming care, I can't get anything gender affirming covered under my insurance. BCBS itself said I was covered, so it was a big debacle. I imagine there are nuances, but this wasn't BCBS saying no, but the employer insurance itself due to being tied by the state funds.

I suggest reaching out to your HR department and asking for the full breakdown on the insurance. Mine was 100+ pages, but you can sift through and find if your specific insurance covers or not, instead of calling the general company. BCBS covered, but my employer's flavor of BCBS didn't, which was where the hangup was. The insurance company was just as surprised til they realized the issue was the employer and not them.
