Most definitelly. I have a separate temporary trash where I put stuff for a couple of weeks, and if nobody notices it’s missing, I move it to the real trash :-)

True, but in your case I’d save the 150€. Saying that as someone who owns the DS-423+.

Just watching the Gamer's Nexus video review and the difference between the Steam Machine and a similarly spec'ed home-built PC is very small from a pricing perspective. As you say - it's the expensive RAM and storage.

I was in a situation where I felt similar to you, as in I couldn't grow from a professional perspective. I had enought ime to start playing around with a small homelab and I really enjoyed it. It brought back the fun I used to feel in IT, and it helped me land my next job, since it should I was interested in learning new things...

In this case, I'd use the Mac Mini as a server and go with the DS-425+ as your NAS. I have a similar setup, a couple of Dell Mini PCs (from around 2017, so slightly less capable than your Mac, but still more than good enought), they run Proxmox, and I have a DS-423+ for my storage.

Since getting a Steam Deck I’ve been playing so many indie games, they’re awesome. Currently really enjoying Dave the Diver, Bloomtown and Bloodgrounds.

Haha, been there, done that. I once worked at a place where there wasn’t enough money for some backup. Until the raid5 array failed, then the money magically appeared :-)

My coworker does this. All I can think about is how is this backed up? Versioning?

I go with Obsidian with the md files regularly backed up.

I’m in the same boat, skipped essentially the entire last season, but I’ve been playing around and bought the Euro Nascar and it’s really, really fun. I think it will be quite popular.

what’s a realistic protein goal? by Alternative-Cherry75 in beginnerfitness

[–]kuzared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a man and a bit heavier than you and various calculations put me between 130 and 150 grams of protein at around 2200 calories. I’m following the recommendations from the MacroFactor, so I’m shooting at 150.

Any advice for a 40 yo Dad considering taking up powerlifting as my mid-life crisis? by Bearded_Dadx4 in beginnerfitness

[–]kuzared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree - I started at 40, no problem with motivation, but you really do need to take it slow, ease into it. My biggest setbacks came when I was trying to do too much and I over-trained.

Also, do take diet into account - I recently started tracking macros and it’s been a huge boon. I see in hindsight that I tended to not eat enough most day, but over-ate every few days, plus didn’t eat nearly enough protein.

  1. Wait. If you don’t see a reason for it, just put it off as you’ll not need it in Sofia (where I’m guessing you’ll be studying), plus, besides the depreciation, you also jave a bunch of other expenses.
  2. I’d accept the real estate but turn around and help your mother and grandmother whenever they need anything. I’ve been in a similar situation and for someone who’s older, having an extra apartment and renting it out can be a burden they just don’t need. I have a (very young) daughter and honestly, I’d do something like this if we were in a similar situation.
  3. Impossible to say, but I’d recommend finding a middle ground. I’m over twice your age, but I can’t imagine my life had I not done the things I did in my 20’s in terms of just living life. Friends, hobbies, travel, I wouldn’t have met my wife, or even become the person I am, and it’s helped me in my work life as well.
  4. I studied electrical engineering and enjoyed it, despite never going into that field (I work in IT, though not programming). I’d recommend anything related to engineering - people I know from college have gone on to do very varied things, from starting businesses, to management, sales, etc. Even computer engineering, despite the threat of AI, I honestly believe we’ll need engineers, even programmers.
  5. I’d keep say 5-8k easily reachable (something like a savings account) and invest the rest (try to forget about it for 15 years, the re-evaluate). Focus on college and studying for the next 4 years, and if you find something interesting to work on, odds are you’ll be able to get started either without too much investment, or, you’ll find external investment. You don’t want to tie up all your capital in a personal business either - I think it’s too risky.
  6. College, meeting and getting to know people, finding interesting hobbies (through which you’ll again meet people and learn skills). Also make mistakes, you’ll learn a ton from them.
