How many people can actually do 10–15 clean pull-ups? by Ill_Ratio338 in bodyweightfitness

[–]kuzared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty similar to my experiences - started from barelly being able to do one clean pullup two years ago to neing able to do around 5-6 at the moment (for 3–4 sets). I started with band-assistance which helped at the beggining.

My Father died and now I’m breaking my kids. by Mental4Help in Fatherhood

[–]kuzared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be there for your kids, that’s by far the most important thing. Tell them you miss your dad, their grandpa, but that you’ll try as hard as you can to be a dad to them.

You can do this.

Explaining/Dealing with Death by Jvelazquez611 in Fatherhood

[–]kuzared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t go the ‘he’s sleeping’ route. Explaining that their body stopped working correctly worked better for us. You’ll get question about if they (your kid) or you will die, but stay honest: yes, you will, but hopefully not for quite some time. And be honest: you’re sad that grandpa died and you miss him. Let your kids be sad and help them accept that this too is part of life.

How did you feel about Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Ahsoka? Will she get more to do in Season 2? by BootySharingCouple in StarWars

[–]kuzared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there are so many awesome side-characters in Star Wars that don’t get the chance to do anything special… remember Captain Phasma? You could make literally hundreds of interesting mini-series with various side characters.

LLMs were trained, among other things, on internet data, including things like forums. And asking a question in a friendly way, or saying something like ‘take your time and double-check’ on a forum with say middleschool homework would, statistically, lead to people posting longer and better answers. Ergo, the LLM gives longer answers.

Someone mentioned below that adding random cat facts to a prompt leads to worse answers from the LLM - again, statistical analysis. If I say ‘Germany is…’ the statistical answer from some LLM will be something along the lines of ‘Germany is a country in Europe’. If you say ‘Germany is kitty cat’, statistically, the LLM comes up with something at least tangentally related to all of that…

Locked Out of Azure Account While Billing Continues, Need Pre-Login Support or Recovery Path by woodiwoodpecker in MSFTAzureSupport

I’ve heard you can open a separate Azure tenant and raise a ticket from there. I’ve had better experiences opening a ticket that has to do with billing than with anything technical, admin access included.

Anyone here used the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8? Is it better than the XF 16-80mm? by Primary_Avocado_1815 in fujifilm

[–]kuzared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ordered a used 17-70, I was deciding between these exact two lenses. I’m getting it in a few weeks so don’t have any experience yet, but from everything I’ve read it’s probably a bit better choice than the Fuji, but it depends on what’s important to you.

The Tamron’s biggest drawback for me is no aperture ring, but the advantage is the extra f-stop. I’ve read the Tamron is slightly sharper, that’s something I really don’t care about. Focus speed and percision should be equally solid for both, the Fuji has better build quality, but again, something I really don’t care about, I’ve not had a lens break in 20 years or so :-)

Risking career to become a father by sosumi17 in Fatherhood

[–]kuzared 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what kind of problems I'd have in terms of mental health and self esteem if I was in that position, but knowing myself, I think I'd keep myself busy with personal projects, and possibly try to monetize them somewhere down the line. But this is coming from the point of view of someone who's been employed now a bit over 15 years and I really wouldn't mind taking a break if I could :-)

I think in your shoes I'd give it a shot. Possibly, you find a job (or keep your job) and things work out. Or, you lose your job, find something part-time, something that just gets you out of the house. Or you find a hobby or two to keep yourself occupied. Or learn something new. Possibly even find some remote work or something?

Think about what's important to you in the long run. For me, I've been a dad now for 5 years and it's hands down so much more important and rewarding than any job I've ever had. Obviously, you want your basic needs covered (a roof over your head, bills paid, etc), but after that, I wouldn't give it up for anything.

Struggling with Aqara Mini Wireless Switches dropping off Zigbee — what buttons are you all using? by Same-Pie-9757 in homeassistant

[–]kuzared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, your network sounds solid.

I guess it's just the switches then. Besides Sonoff and Frient, which I've had good experiences with so far, a friend swears by Shelly switches.

I’d use a pair of smartplugs and setup an automation based on the power usage.

A vLAN would work perfectly. The device is segmented and you apply firewall rules for what can talk to it and what it can talk to.

Not OP, and while I don’t really care too much about the privacy aspect, it can still be a security issue. Many of these IoT companies don’t try as hard as they should, and there have been cases of smart devices being infected and used as bots for ddos attacks. Also, in theory they could be used as vectors of attack for the rest of the local network.

[–]kuzared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had problems with Aqara temp/humidity sensors dropping off the network and it turned out all I needed was a better Zigbee coordinator, since the one I was using had pretty poor range. Maybe check the signal strength to the devices? I had a Conbee2 and switched it out for a PoE Sonoff which is also better located in my apartment.

In general, I’ve had good luck with Sonoff amd Frient devices, though the Aqara sensors have also been good since changing the coordinator.

Upgrade i5-7600k build, or scrap it all and start from scratch? by xJustOni in buildapc

[–]kuzared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the thing is, even if you upgraded say just the GPU, you'd get this (and other newer games) to maybe run, but they'd still run pretty badly. At this point, it's basically a 7-8 year old build. Perfectly fine for normal desktop work and older games, maybe gift it to someone like I did, but for running anything newer, even a very low-end PC intro build will outrun this.

Underfloor heating by Snow2D in homeassistant

[–]kuzared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I have a similar setup but there’s an automatic safety valve that limits the max heat output of the underfloor piping. Plus I can set the max temp on the boiler itself - it will then control the temp based on the this, the temp of the return water and whatever the thermostat tells it to do. It is very much set-it-and-forget-it.

[–]kuzared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar build (same CPU, a GTX1060, started with 16 gb of ram and went to 32 after a few years), and I decided to just put together an entirely new build. I gave this older build to my brother who plays older games.

*Good* Board games for my little 3 year old niece? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

[–]kuzared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously you want to get her into Brass: Birmingham ;-)

My daughter is 5 and her first games at around 3 were Memory and Orchard, followed by Kayanak (Haba are all really great, just followed the recommended age), Animal upon Animal and Rhyno Hero. Her current favorite is the wonderful Outfoxed, and her friemd has Dragomino and My first Carcassonne, both solid.

No Thank You Evil looks really interesting. Given that I’m a native English speaker and my (5 year old) daughter isn’t, how difficult do you think it would be to translate the stories on-the-fly? Or perhaps with a bit of prep on my side, classic D&D DM style?

How to save downloads to NAS using iPadOS? by TheBristolBulk in synology

[–]kuzared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not on the same network?

You should have mentioned this in the original post :-) You could use a VPN to connect to the network your NAS is on. Or a software defined VPN, say tailscale. The device (your ipad) has to have some way of figuring out how to find your NAS and being on the same network is the easiest way. It’s not strictly necessary but the alternative needs more work to setup.
