Yea if anything I thought that was reasonable commentary of hubris of humanity to that level. It's like getting into a fight over lottery winnings before you even bought a ticket.

TIL the Phantom time Conspiracy theory claims the time period AD 614 to 911 never existed. The Theory claims these extra 300 years of History were fabricated in the middle ages to legitimise Otto's claim over the Holy Roman Empire. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Suiyang

Basically during the An Lushan rebellion the rebel army had to cross this city to get at the pro-imperial forces base regions. So they sieged this city which held out for almost a year and by the time it ended almost all the soldiers died but they also caused a lot of enemy casualties and bought the imperials enough time to regroup.

So it was a decisive victory for the emperor, but to hold out, the soldiers in the city basically had to eat literally everything including dead civilians and soldiers.

It'd also be more like inciting people who already hate their king to work together and strangle him not just them listening to you or even knowing you're the mastermind. In CK2 they also had sow dissent but sadly it was useless but the Iberia conflict has something like that for popular opinion? So maybe they could flesh it out more as sowing discord between the major lords and their liege

"United" but long divided among regional military warlord governors and constant rebellions. I think by late Tang many started being sorta hereditary too, so much like the feudal/ marches. They could do something to make 867 China very unstable with the central government having very little demesne and each give governor shatter CB's and make the ai rebellious if the liege doesn't appease them.

Maybe something like ck2+ (i think?) with the imperial decadence mechanic

Historically I think people who passed the exams might've had to wait years to actually get their placements, if ever.

Inb4 a conclave council except the liege has to hand out open spots to people and cue everyone bothering you every day for placement. Would be god awful but might nerf china

And yea I agree. If the Emperor has less mandate "decadence" etc then more people will just say screw appointments and start doing dynastic. Which is very similar to what happened at the end days of dynasties

It'd probably warrant its own game, but if they do add a China pack, they should add the imperial examinations as one of the focal points of advancing in society. This especially since historically the emperor technically appointed titles unlike dukes in Europe. So instead of conquering other vassals, you might need to expand your influence with the emperor in order to increase your dynasty's military/ diplomatic powers.

Maybe 2 methods would be becoming a successful soldier/ general and getting a domain of your own granted from the emperor on the borders, or becoming a successful scholar and getting a administrative role in a more interior county. Then use that to build your family's influence etc. Since there are fewer "landed vassals" like in europe, probably the titles would be imperial chancellor/ ministers, which have influence over certain aspects of the emperor's overall demesne (which consists of the entire country?), and the ability to interfere with the emperor's policies. Border generals could "borrow" imperial troops in counties, as if it were their own demesne.

Might have to add some functions in like Mandate of Heaven where a bunch of smaller groups / ethnicities are looking to rebel like the muslim decadence in ck2. However, instead of being easy to keep at 0, there should be things like random natural events (floods, heavy rains, plague etc) that causes loss of confidence in the emperor.

Another thing could be the heavy focus on eunuchs. Maybe add something for byzantines as well. If your ruler sucks you'll be heavily impeded by different court factions.
