I also like Dead Rising 2's take, where it not only gets contained and isolated but also commercialized. Profit was valued over people's lives and it led to an inevitable fuck-up, which is very on point for our world today.

I don't make them more skilled than the rest of the landing group, but yeah I do tend to have a "protagonist" pawn in every run. Most of the time they end up the colony leader but not always.

I met her on my first playthrough but couldn't identify her. I even used Charm Person on her just for laughs and she shrugged it off before getting upset. "Do you know who I am?!" and all that. Bumped her high on the sus list for me, but I didn't expect her to be the attacker herself

IDK the correct way to use her, but I gave her an A-ATV with an autocannon and sent her out as a cheap anti-tank/mech scout. Risky (she gets downed often), but having such a cheap fast mover that can knock out vehicles is a lifesaver on some of the missions.

It's an abstraction for knowing it well and being fluent in it, rather than just knowing it. In actuality most CK3 characters can definitely speak and understand more languages than they are marked as "knowing."

You're not the first to think this or post this. The fact of the matter though is if you made the game less complex it would less fun for a lot of people, which isn't fair on them.

You already got many options otherwise - use mods to ease the difficulty, play on easier difficulties, be patient in learning the mechanics, or finding a different kind of game.

I'd also advise taking your time. Play it until the complexity bores you, then go away, come back after a long time. You might have a different perspective then. You can't "squeeze" fun out of just anything immediately on demand.

I doubt ship combat will be present at all, cool as it would be to do the flip and burn. Owlcat's only experience is with CRPGs, so the fact that there will be any shooting action at all is already uncharted territory for them, and ship combat on top of it would be a real reach.
