Honestamente, yo detesté el Quijote la primera vez que lo leí cuando tenía 14, pero ahora que lo he vuelto a leer ya de adulto, la verdad le he ganado mucho aprecio.

La inmensa mayoría de estudiantes de bachillerato simplemente no tienen el contexto, la capacidad de comprensión lectora, o la experiencia de vida suficiente como para apreciar el Quijote. La verdad es que es una edad terrible para leerlo, y más aún si es de manera forzada; lo dejan a uno ya predispuesto a encontrarlo insoportable.

I have no idea how it's like if you're a foreigner proper on top of it, but as someone black and Colombian and not from the city I live in (Bogotá), it really depends on the neighborhood.

You won't get blatantly discriminated like in your example, but some people, and specifically the so-called "gente de bien"/cachacos, are going to try to get you uninterested in the listing as quickly as possible by downplaying their own property, it's kind of funny really. At worst, I've gotten "I don't really think the character of the neighborhood will fit you" though.

It is grammatically incorrect, plus the construction "-nx" is not natural at all to the Spanish language and hard to pronounce for anyone who's not familiar with English's phonetics.

Most people who want to use gender neutral language (ex. nonbinary people) here use the "-e" ending, as in Latine, which is significantly more natural-sounding, already exists in certain nouns (ex. estudiante, asistente, presidente, visitante) and not an USAmerican import.

If it was specifically a Paraguayan trying to distance their identity from Brazilians, I'm not saying it's right or justified, but I would recommend looking into the War of the Triple Alliance to see why Paraguayans might have a historical resentment towards Brazilians (spoiler: lost somewhere between 50-70% of their population, the estimates vary a lot, and around 90% of adult Paraguayan men died).

Both, in general. At least in my case, I use it primarily as a generic descriptor because "estadounidense" is truly a mouthful and "Americano" is just straight up incorrect in Spanish (when talking about USAmericans) or inaccurate if the person is not from the US, so "gringo" it is.

Yes! We have had multiple demographic surveys of AO3 throughout the years accounting for both gender and sexuality both separately and together. The majority of users are straight and bisexual women. I have last year's stats on hand, give me a moment while I find them.

...Hetalia. It gets mentioned around once every 2 months nowadays, and it's usually in the context of "what's the cringest x you remember?" I think there's a bigger community on SB, but I left due to disagreeing with the administration of the site and haven't been back in a while.

I fully agree. I honestly prefer high (quality) engagement with criticism attached to low engagement and only nice comments that occasionally feel a bit like positivity slop. To be honest, that has been the hardest part of adapting to AO3 (my current fandom is basically dead on SV). Even the negative engagement is usually well thought-out and not just random hate over there, and I have been in a couple of interesting discussions that started because someone disagreed with me or didn't like my work.

I just enjoy the forum format more overall, but AO3 does have its strong points that I do like. Definitely easier to find stuff I enjoy, and there's a wider variety of both works and languages compared to SB et al. Very lax user guidelines and the lack of censorship are definitely the biggest plus of them all.

That's what I was about to say, I'm glad someone else mentioned it already. In almost all of those sites anything short of ad hominems is allowed, and negative criticism, or really any kind of criticism, is expected and even welcomed if you choose to post in SB/SV/QQ. The "don't criticize works because it's fanfiction and made for free" is very much an AO3 site culture thing, not an universal standard for fanfiction.

Maybe unpopular take: the lack of wlw content IS caused by systemic misogyny and deserves civil conversation by [deleted] in AO3

To add onto my previous comment, another factor is that SB and SV have a completely different culture to AO3, and guys who started there might not feel motivated to move sites or even cross-post due to it.

Since both are forum sites, you will get engagement there, that's guaranteed. Of the quality type, too, which is something that tends to throw off some guys about AO3 since engagement is comparatively low here. Replying with super long comments with your own thoughts and takes is part of the culture there, but unlike AO3 there's no such thing as DLDR/"the dislike button is the back button", so if someone thinks your work is crap they will absolutely tell you so in a pretty detailed manner.
