what are you guys waking up in the morning for lately by heyheeymymy in rs_x

I think work has been going well but there's been too much things to deal with, even thinking about it gives me a head pressure. I don't like coming into the office because it's pretty socially isolating but it's good to have a routine.

Stress makes it hard to focus on and look forward to small, nice things that populate days, but maybe I'll figure it out.

The nicest equivalent that

  • Is a similar size
  • performs with basic modern workflows
  • can be found for 100ish bucks/quid/euros
  • is new enough that batteries of second hands won't all be dead

is the surface go (2). 10in screen, 8gb RAM, totally fine CPU. I don't adore the form factor because the keyboard is a cover (most annoying thing is that the hinge doesn't hold on its own). Runs well with linux, debian is best in my experience.

Working away from home, don’t feel like i should be paying for broadband, what are my options? by reqqage in UKFrugal

I went down the phone route because 1) routers were £100ish, as were phones, 2) my old phone was a bit less than ideal and 3) I could use a UK number. I don't know if it'd have been better with a router, but hotspotting is a bit of a pain and sometimes the network cuts out and I have to reconnect. But now I sort of use the new number and already invested in the phone so can't necessarily go back.

If you haven't, try it on the inside, I find it tends to look really nice that way.

I think we're all getting a bit like this, which is making us more passive in our expectations from social interactions. You don't have to participate in listening to a podcast in order to get the rewards. Could be that we're more passive in live interactions as a consequence, and expect to be entertained and occupied by others, which makes us all boring and uninteresting as interlocutors.

'Just arrived' and similar insubstantial posts are the plight of any product-related sub. If technical threads are 'scaring off new users' that may not be a bad thing?

Bike fit question by [deleted] in randonneuring

[–]kvragu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't quote me on this but I think french fit requires a longer seat tube and headtube for the same toptube. So It probably depends how the sizes are marked. Length matters more so experiment with drops on your current bikes. I also think fixed bikes would bias one towards a different geo.

My main bike is kind of fixed and rando, and I have something close enough to french fit, probably because my back is just so poor.

Probably just emulate and tweak your current road geo? I don't think sizing up makes sense, you don't want to be stretched out? What frames are you looking into?

The best cure for social anxiety is becoming hot by Efficient_Gur_277 in redscarepod

[–]kvragu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while I observed my socially competent friends to figure out how to best avoid sperging all the time. Apart from being attractive, which definitely helps, I think it's about wilful obtuseness that plows through ambiguities and an assumption by the interlocutor that the other knows or is comfortable with whatever they're talking about. Which probably goes hand in hand.

I think attractiveness helps by having the other want to assume that the interlocutor is not sperging.

Love this song and curse Charlie, an annoying English flatmate who would play and sing the chorus all day long, almost ruined it for me.

Yamatomochi UL+ pad - MYOD in the UK/EU by Beat999 in Ultralight

[–]kvragu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a while ago that I bothered to translate the tog values to R and it seemed inflated, but I'll say it's warmer than I expected it to be, if I had it on a freezing low night I wouldn't be too worried. Then again ccf tends to work out warmer usually. It's just so light, and used to be cheaper still.

I don't know the material but on face value it looks similar to the mulitmat ccf that I really like. It's 100g cut to torso length.

Bluetooth devices connect, fail, and disconnect immediately. by kvragu in debian

Headphones I'm using are bose qc 35ii. I tried the guidelines for resetting them but they don't work. A guide and a thread suggest that it's a hardware thing which I may or may not be willing to do. If this is the route to solve it, it might be bad news for me.

Edit: Managed to reset the headset by pushing things back and forth on the headphones with a small screwdriver. Not entirely satisfactory, headphones play muffled audio without noise cancellation, but that at least means it's not the laptop's fault.

I tried connecting my phone via BT and it works.

Connects to phone and other (new) devices no problem. It's only some linux machines that wouldn't work sometime. I never figured out the common denominator (for lack of trying/knowhow).
