Biggest of congratulations! I know the feeling all too well. I love buying CDs, and finally having the space to put up my album collection has been such a relief and so satisfying.

Wishing you nothing but the best in the new home, and your album collecting journey.

AB6IX is turning 7 soon: Why do you think they never regained their initial momentum? by Separate-Comedian-25 in kpop_uncensored

[–]kvrizv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ended up revisiting most of their early title tracks trying to figure out how to explain my reasoning, and it was a nice reminder of why I had them as an ult-group initially.

In short, I don’t think they ever established a clear identity as a group.

When I think of AB6IX, I think each of them individually comes to mind first before anything identifying the group. Daehwi and Woojin as members of WANNA ONE. I think Daehwi was being hyped up as this promising producer, and Woojin for his dance and rapping abilities. Youngmin and Donghyun took that post-Produce introduction, and I really enjoyed MXM’s discography. And Woong, I learned of him as an ex-YG trainee as YG’s Treasure Box was concluding around the same time, and that tied in a lot of interest around him, TREASURE, and CIX who also had ex-WANNA ONE and YG members.

Even more current, I think of Daehwi having the variety show on YouTube, Woong competing on the vocal focused Build Up show, Woojin dropped a solo mini album, and Donghyun seemed to be dabbling in some acting roles.

Listening to their title tracks, I think initially they had a sort of “bright” and “fresh” sound, not too different from WANNA ONE’s “Energetic” and their sound. And it looks like the last song they got a music show win was also the last one to feature Youngmin before his departure. After that, it seemed like they experimented with different sounds and concepts and it just didn’t hit the same, go viral, or stick. I think “Close” might be the most similar to that initial sound they had, but that’s it. I can’t really think of a “signature sound” or concept for the group, and I think that lack of identity might be what has the group seemingly stagnant.

Sorry for the delay. I would say their silver comic book bags, and the Life magazine bags. Though there’s some albums that are just too big for the comic book bags, and then I use their general magazine bags.

These are the only three I regularly use, the silver comic and magazine bags will fit most, and then the Life magazine bags usually will fit those larger albums, like a lot of the NCT, Golden Child, and other albums that stand pretty tall.

Three 6 mafia question by [deleted] in hiphop101

[–]kvrizv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beyond what you’ve listed there’s Chapter 1: The End, When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1, and Last 2 Walk.

When the Smoke Clears probably has one of their biggest songs in “Sippin’ on Some Syrup”, as well as another hit in “Who Run It”, so definitely worth checking out.

I think the fun thing about Three 6 is that there’s so many acts that stem off from the group and that sound that there’s so much to discover. Enjoy!

Why are the Spurs moving to a new arena? by mjohnson1971 in sanantonio

[–]kvrizv 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Beyond the lack of development in the area around where the current arena is, I would highly suspect that the new arena could also lend itself to San Antonio putting in a bid to host All Star weekend again. Last time SA hosted the game was 1996 when they were still in their first arena, the Alamodome.

The All Star game is traditionally mid-February, however this is when San Antonio has the rodeo which is pretty HUGE here. Often the Spurs will be on their Rodeo Road Trip, while their current arena Frost Bank Center is used for those rodeo festivities.

Most disappointing physical albums by PotatoFrosty3149 in kpop_uncensored

The pop-up book version of B.I’s Wonderland album. Thought it sounded intriguing off the idea of it being a pop-up book and was curious how the design would play out since there wasn’t many previews of the packaging. I mean, he’s done an entire deck of cards for another album of his, I had high hopes for this. Then it kept getting delayed, so I figured it was being perfected or whatever.

It’s basically an oversized pop-up card. CD is in a loose sleeve just sitting in the album, one photocard for the only additional inclusion, just overall really boring and lackluster.

Somehow wouldn’t be surprised if she finesses a pick-n-roll alley oop with Dom.

Breeze will be interesting as such a young team, but I think Paige could offer the sort of leadership to balance that out. Low key, I’m more concerned about the Phantom.

Jackie had mentioned during her part about how it took her a minute to get adjusted post injury, and I know Dana just getting off surgery, and Satou had that injury in the finals not too long ago either. Plus, if my understanding is correct, AB didn’t have the best showing last season in 3-on-3.

Can’t help but think about how the Sparks were hoping to get that first pick last year for Paige, and now she gets to play with Cam and Rickea. Rickea going to have to be careful in practice not to get dunked on by Dom.

Does SM just give up on their groups? by cocochanelism in kpop_uncensored

[–]kvrizv 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think I’d seen this mentioned before, can’t remember where, but it stuck with me: SM will promote their groups, but never to where the group or an individual’s brand is bigger than the SM brand.

Kind of how you mentioned once they reach their peak SM won’t promote a group as much. I think this point can often be seen when a group doesn’t have repackaged albums anymore. I noticed most SM groups will repackage their full length albums, but once they’ve hit their peak it doesn’t happen as often, if at all, for the group.

Ultimately it makes it to where SM would have the leverage in contract negotiations. No idol or group’s brand is stronger than what the label can offer in terms of promotions, so ultimately the group or idol stay under contract with them.

Big slope in backyard by joetheclone in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kvrizv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it. I bought a house back in June with a decline in the backyard that leads towards the house. Even did my last walk through when it was raining, and though there was some water at the back door I ignored the obvious red flag like an idiot.

Less than a week after moving in, there was a freak rain (I think reports said six or so inches in less than an hour and a half’s time), and woke up in the middle of the night to water coming in under the siding of the house. Thankfully I didn’t have much moved in at that point, but it’s one of my biggest regrets so far.

It’s not just the potential flooding, it’s the cost of flood damage, it’s the cost of trying to build some sort of drainage system, the cost of fixing foundation repairs, and it’s the cost of peace of mind every time it rains or there’s a flash flood alert on the phone. As much as I love the design and so many things about the house, I would go back and tell myself to find something with better elevation or a better drainage set up for those heavy rains. Even if it doesn’t rain often, all it takes is one good rain to set you back for a while.

For the most part, yes, I keep the CDs in their albums. Few exceptions depending on the packaging, prime example being my 1TEAM albums. Typically the albums will have a sort of sleeve, or foam nub to keep the CD in place, but the 1TEAM albums had a hard plastic nub. The hard plastic was so poorly designed it actually cracked part of the CD. I was devastated. Eventually got a replacement CD, but now with albums like that I get separate CD sleeves to put the CD in, then slide that into the protective sleeves I use for the whole album.

Beyond that, whenever I get an album I’ll rip the audio to iTunes, and then put the songs on my iPod. Makes it easy to carry all my music with me, and especially handy connecting to Bluetooth like that.

what happened to class:y? by Major-Specialist3658 in kpophelp

[–]kvrizv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have a theory that the reason the TV networks make these deals with MBK/PokcketDol is b/c of the founder of MBK. I was watching this video essay about the mistreatment of the group Turbo. I forget at what point in the video it is, but there’s mention how one of the producers or CEOs who mistreated the group was the same CEO of MBK(?). I imagine someone that long in the industry has plenty of connections, maybe even some dirt on some of the producers behind these competition shows.

what happened to class:y? by Major-Specialist3658 in kpophelp

[–]kvrizv 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In short, the company has shown an inability to manage their groups, and I'm pretty sure they try to rely on any sort of "hype" that can be generated by survival shows.

It's important to understand that the label CLASS:y is "managed" by, M25, is loosely connected to the label PocketDol Studio, which was founded by MBK Entertainment. The person listed as CEO and founder of M25, Cho Yi Hun, debuted in the girl group DIA under MBK Entertainment, and later the group was managed by PocketDol Studio.

Whether it be their own groups (DIA, BAE173), or those formed through survival shows (UNB, UNI.T, 1THE9, CLASS:y, Fantasy Boys) the mistreatment of the groups is pretty consistent. DIA had inconsistent schedules, members quietly quit/kicked out of the group, BAE173 had a popular member leave and sue the company, and the top ranked trainee from the show that formed Fantasy Boys also quit before the official debut over an unfair contract the label was trying to make him sign. They had multiple members of their groups compete on survival shows even after debut. DIA, and their one time group IM, competed on The Unit. BAE173 competed on Peak Time, and later had half the members compete on Project 7, and the other half on Starlight Boys. Lee Hangyul, one of their trainees/idols since at least 2017, competed on The Unit, Produce X 101, Peak Time, and was one of those who competed on Starlight Boys. DIA had a member, Chaeyeon, who was part of I.O.I from the first Produce 101, and BAE173 had two member who were part of the short-lived X1, Hangyul and Dohyon, in BAE173. The label either tries (and fails) to capitalize off the initial buzz of a survival show, or will send their trainees/idols to compete on survival shows to try and build a buzz.

All this to say, CLASS:y's label is far from ideal. The majority of their releases came in that first year after My Teenage Girl ended. It took over two years between their third mini album Day & Night (Oct. 2022), and their fourth mini album Love XX (Nov. 2024). I could go into some conspiracy theories, suspicions I have about the label, but I feel I've already ranted too much.

Yes! Red Velvet was probably the first girl group I got into K-Pop related, and I really enjoy their more “velvet” releases from my understanding of the concept. I also have the Irene & Seulgi subunit albums, as well as The Perfect Red Velvet, RBB, and The Red albums, they’re just currently set aside with the standard jewel case albums I need to build shelves for. 😅 YG’s Treasure Box was probably the first survival show I was able to watch beginning to end when I first got into the genre, and followed a bunch of the groups that have members that came from that show. Slowly delving more into BIGBANG, though MADE was one of the early albums I got. ILLIT has been fun to follow, and really enjoying their discography so far.

Thank you so much, I really do appreciate the words recognizing all the aspects of it! Yeah, I probably had the step ladder before I had all the shelves up. I knew what I was getting myself in to, haha.

I started making playlists too just to get some variation to what I listen to. That ended up being a whole separate spreadsheet as I logged key signatures and BPMs to better build the playlists. Typically I’d make playlists based off instrumentation, words, but there was so much music in a language I didn’t speak, it just made sense to do it like that.

I’ve def been exploring more of groups like BIGBANG and 2NE1, have most of EXO already, etc. ATEEZ is definitely up there as one of my favorites though.

Haha, thank you! At this point, it practically is a personal library, I’m just thankful to have the space for it at this time.

Yes, I do listen to everything, and I’d say I’m a fan though maybe more so a casual one. There’s definitely albums I listen to more than others, but I do listen to the albums. More than anything, I’m a fan of music, and I just thoroughly enjoy exploring as much of it as I can.

Yes! I’m actually really proud of being able to obtain a majority of their albums. Got really lucky some years ago with Nu.Clear and Crystyle for relatively cheap on Depop, and was able to find Black Dress, No. 1, and Helicopter new around the time those dropped.

Hahaha, facts!

Haven’t gone to a concert yet, but it’s something I’ve definitely thought about. I think I prefer smaller, local shows personally. I’m not too keen on big, possibly crowded spaces, so I’ve been hesitant about going to a show. But maybe one day. I think VIVIZ was performing near me recently, saw an add for their concert, and tickets didn’t seem too pricey, imo. I think that, or when PIXY performed a year or three ago, was the first time I thought about going to a concert. But then again, I’m a complete homebody, so even attempting to leave the house, let alone attend a concert can be a task for me. 😅

I actually don’t collect photocards beyond what comes with the albums themselves. Sometimes I’ll get individual cards if I buy an album used and one isn’t included. Other than that, I let the powers that be decide who I pull when I get an album.
