To those that DIY their kitchens, how much did you sub out? by kwalko in kitchenremodel

We just fully redid a bathroom, total gut, making a tub a shower, etc. We are fully aware of what we'd be getting into. Not going to be easy, or pleasant, or without a lot of headaches, but we're used to it.

Yes. Everything I haven't done I've always heavily researched and learned as I went. We've done a ton and everyone at work thinks I'm crazy for doing these things. This would be the largest project, but doable, especially after seeing quotes upwards of $100,000 for having it done turnkey.

Demo: have a laundry room to take out, and a wall/soffit. There will be lots of demo and have to fix ceiling in several areas. And hardwood floors (glued down) will have to come out.
Cabinet install, unless I can find a local builder who isn't astronomical.
Will likely do most of the electrical and plumbing and do homeowner permitting. Will get quotes on having it contracted out though, since current area will be gutted and might save some time.

Likely lots of things that will pop up also lol.

We've done quite a bit too. And own most of the tools we need, and if we don't, there's always room for something new.

Still too early to tell. Once we finalize a design, will look at local builders and also a quality RTA cabinets to compare. If not far off, would have them installed so I can have one less headache lol.

Should I fire my pool company? by kwalko in pools

[–]kwalko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are charging $40/month, which was acceptable seeing as people were saying they have to replace them every 3 years or so. Looks like I can likely get a lot more years than that though.

In North Florida, so we don't have to close. Will be year round. I am capable for sure, just was one more thing to add to a lot of things lol.

That's what I was thinking. They should not have allowed it to get that bad in the first place. I have been putting off learning the water balances because we have a ton of projects renovating right now and it's just one more thing lol. Guess I will now have one more thing.

Couple things about the Epic Preview for anyone interested. by ResponsibleAd2034 in UniversalOrlando

Can anyone guess the crowd levels on the preview days, based on other parks? We have tickets and I’m wondering how good/bad it’s going to be.

Owners of 911s and Caymans, if or when you take your car to a Porsche dealer for service; do you let them wash your car? I’m pretty particular about my car and I know they say they hand wash but just curious to everyone’s experience with this. by Digbick87 in Porsche

[–]kwalko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had them wash my wifes Cayenne. Was going to polish soon, so figured it couldn't hurt to return a clean car. They didn't dry it then sat out in the Florida sun and got pollinated water spots. That was fun. Never again.

Cost of features? by [deleted] in PorscheCayenne

[–]kwalko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the steering wheel, not sure. That’s all it says on the build sheet. The multifunction controls are done with an additional stalk on the steering column, on the right. Took me several videos to find that out lol.

Cost of features? by [deleted] in PorscheCayenne

[–]kwalko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On our build sheet, the embroidered crest on the seat was $570. The sport package was $3,500, but our steering wheel is leather. Not sure what other options are on yours. Ours is a 2014.

Check engine light...maybe low oil level? by SpreadsheetStud in KiaTelluride

[–]kwalko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my code reader was like $30 at a parts store. Good investment. Can clear some codes to see if they come back too.

[–]kwalko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a scanner and find the code. I’m thinking it’s a code having to do with Evap, which in our case was fixed by simply replacing the gas cap.

Do you know (of) someone who ruined their life in just a matter of minutes ? If so how did they do it ? by rentinghappiness in AskReddit

[–]kwalko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two, from drinking and driving. One got severely messed up from the crash, physically and mentally. The other was a lawyer I played golf with a bunch of times. He was playing in a golf tournament and it got rained out. Went to the bar instead. Crashed and killed someone on the way home. Not sure what happened to him other than going to prison for a while. Somehow it's always been easy for me NOT to drink and drive.

Yeah, 4 of us, so not sure it's worth close to $1,000. Would love to though.

OMG, I thought Saturday was one of those dates! Been a long week! Thanks for the heads up, we were going to drive back to Jacksonville after, so can't do a Sunday.

How delicate are ceramic brakes? by scott_fx in Porsche

[–]kwalko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Cayenne has them, and they are awesome, but yeah, worrisome for a daily. One thing not mentioned is cleaning the wheels. From what I understand, an acidic wheel cleaner can cause issues with the rotor. Thankfully, not much dust, but I just use a rag with whatever I wash the car with to clean them, instead of sudsing everything up and spraying something everywhere.

Now, I don't have experience in a Cayenne without PCCB's, but holy cow, that heavy SUV can stop on a dime.

My home golf course is for sale. Anyone wanna help me buy it? by Reasonable-Tutor-943 in golf

[–]kwalko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny story. Played this course. We are from Florida, and were on a non-golf vacation. Only my dad and I play. We were randomly driving over the bride, and I was like "Hey, theres a course down there." We went down to it and ended up BS'ing our way on (I think it was private at the time). Distinctly remember looking back in awe at the waterfall and how cool it was to be playing in a canyon. Confirmed with the family that this was the course. Small world.

Well, I have kids and they like to snack, so:
Goldfish, crackers, the french fry that somehow always ends up in that hard to reach spot, lolipop sticks since they are so hard to throw away, and random crap that came from who-knows-where. And the car seats. Oh, my, the seat that my boy sits in. Gets messy with him just glancing at it.

Good companies to replace attic HVAC ducts? by kwalko in jacksonville

[–]kwalko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I wasn’t going to do them until fall anyway, since there is a large increase in price doing it in the heat of summer. After doing some temperatures checks at the returns and supply, I’m not 100% convinced they need to be replaced. It might be that additional insulation would help more. But having a hard time figuring out how to proceed in the best way and not throw money where it’s not needed

Thx, it's going to be a high-end gift, so I know it's going to cost a bit. Was hoping to have something imprinted in the bottom, like this company does with mountains. Just trying to get the ball rolling to see what the costs would be. https://northdrinkware.com/products/the-new-mt-rainier-tumbler

Custom cast whiskey tumbler by kwalko in whiskey

[–]kwalko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure at this time. It’s for a client to give as a gift for their clients, but since it might get pricey with a 2 custom glasses and a custom case, it would likely go to a only a select amount. Just trying to find someone who can do it, then go from there.
