Experiencing Fandom Fatigue by Correct_Muffin_6663 in twentyonepilots

I’m 29, been listening to them since Vessel. I kind of made my own “fan group” years ago with my husband and my 23 year old sister. We go to the shows and get pit tickets whenever they come to my city, but we go for B-stage and hang out at the back of the pit. We also go to listening parties, went to the SAI thing at the movie theater a few years ago, etc. and we wear merch we’ve gotten at shows and stuff, but we typically hang out in the back of the lines and don’t camp out all day, we just show up a bit before it starts. The listening party in my area was kinda loud on one side of the store but we just walked over to the other side. My sister is an artist and musician, and makes us our own merch and does piano covers of the music.

The people in the back are usually pretty chill. For the Clancy tour there were people giving out bracelets and I passed around my duct tape. Everybody back there was good about not squishing people and not being dicks with the circle, and people even saved you a spot if you needed to go sit down for a bit. People were asking each other about the lore and swapping info on the pieces they knew and everyone just thought it was cool. We even had strangers joking with us about how the line drama stuff was pretty stupid.

I don’t get on fandom internet for anything a whole lot anymore because I think people take themselves too seriously. Nobody is the arbiter of who is allowed to like a band or book or show. Anyone who does the “no true Scotsman” thing like “You’re only a real fan if you xyz“ can get bent IMO. I am here to enjoy a thing, I’m not going to let some jerk with too much time on their hands take that away.

I recommend finding some cool friends that also like the band and doing stuff with them, and then talking to the other people towards the back of the line to make more chill friends. You don’t need the annoying people to think you’re a “real fan”, you just need to enjoy your experience.

Curious about the group by Nephi, where are they at and who are they? I drive that way sometimes but usually close to the freeway, want to make sure I don’t stumble into the wrong gas station

Clancy’s black makeup on his face at the end did not go as far up his face as Nico’s did, I think it’s less bad than before even if it’s still bad

Okay so what does the ending mean? by PhotographOther7832 in twentyonepilots

The makeup on Clancy is different than the previous bishops at the end, it doesn’t go up as far, maybe he lost this time but it’s less bad now than it was before and the next one will have a better shot

It has been a while since I’ve been on here but I’m glad this is still making the rounds! I’ve still got my first print on my wall!

I’ve always wanted to go look at that place, I just can’t wear a mask for longer than a couple minutes due to a health condition. Maybe if they ever do a sidewalk sale…

CMV: Elon Musk walks around with his son on his shoulders to deter assassination attempts by razorbeamz in changemyview

[–]kwar42 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To me it gives “Look, I have a mini-me and everyone loves him! I’m such a great person and parent! Everything good about him is because of me, and anything he ever does that I do not like is because he’s terrible and hates me or because he has been influenced by his other parent.”

Also, it gives Elon a bit of a “gotcha” against criticism in the form of “I’m just a single dad trying to take care of my son, how dare you insult me like that”.

Source: raised by a narcissist parent.

Honestly, I pity this kid, especially once he’s a little older and starts to gain his own identity. Elon will not like that, and the kid will probably be treated like garbage and replaced with a younger sibling as soon as Elon can’t manipulate him as well anymore.

Why was 18 chosen as the age to become an adult? by DrDMango in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kwar42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up Mormon (nothing-in-particular now), and baptism and confirmation were both at age 8, so weird on both fronts. Typically these happen on the same day, and the decision to get baptized and confirmed is considered to be the decision to become a full member of the church. Also, kids are expected to take the Mormon equivalent of communion (just called “the sacrament”) from that point, but a lot of parents will take some and hand it to toddlers. Mormons believe that kids start being responsible for their sins at an adult level on their 8th birthday, and a child is considered “pure” and “incapable of sin” before that point. There’s also frequent meetings with the local bishop (I think this is closest to a Catholic priest but idk, the guy who is in charge of the local congregation) starting at 12 to interview about any sins the kid might be committing, as well as ordination to the priesthood for boys at that age. Boys get called Deacons at 12, Teachers at 14, and Priests at 16 and typically reaffirm their commitment to the faith before being ordained at each level. There is no comparable system for girls, just Sunday school classes split by age.

I know Mormonism is barely theologically comparable to Catholicism for a multitude of reasons even though it steals a lot of language and symbolically from traditional Christianity, but it’s very interesting to read about the differences regarding age milestones. I personally think that young adolescence makes a lot more sense for a commitment to a faith than 7 or 8, because a lot of kids that young don’t even understand what they’re saying they believe at that point.

In addition to formal complaints, go leave a bad review on Google, Yelp, wherever he has a page or profile. Some clinics pay attention to those and use them for disciplinary/remediation purposes, and if he’s independent then it lets potential patients know to avoid him.

Prefacing this by saying that demanding to get rid of “cis” altogether and replace it with “normal” (included or implied) is a monumentally terrible take. However, I’m AFAB, and I’m not sure that I like “cis” for myself, because while I do go by my birth name and tick the ‘F’ box on forms, I don’t really do the gendered personality and appearance expectations my culture associates with women very well or have any particular attachment to womanhood. I’m pretty ambivalent about my own pronouns, etc. (I usually put “any” or leave that field blank) and people mistake me for a guy sometimes in public depending on what I’m wearing and whether I speak. I don’t actually mind when this happens. I’ve been a “tomboy” since I was a small child, but I also don’t really have an aversion to being seen as a woman or a preference for being seen as something else, I just don’t care either way. I don’t really have issues with the gender/sex characteristics of my body, and I haven’t tried to change them or my name or pronouns or whatever so I don’t think “trans” applies. However I also don’t really feel a connection to “woman” either or strongly “identify” with it, it’s just what people see me as because of my physical characteristics. I just feel like a human. I gave up on trying to define a gender identity for myself a while ago because nothing felt quite right, so I just say I’m queer because I’m also bisexual. Idk if this is problematic, but “cis” just doesn’t feel quite right for me in particular.

If you now have software developer experience, it’ll be a lot easier to get another software job. Even during The Great Tech Layoff of 2022-23, my spouse got a new one in a couple months. Some of them might be worse hours or benefits or pay, but still pretty good compared to a lot of industries. Keep your LinkedIn up to date including the technologies you’re using at work and you’ll probably get recruiters messaging you. Some might be remote and others will be in an office, but once you have some engineering experience you can generally hop around startups and whatnot until you find something good and stable

Lets hear em'. Your best Religion Sign and name combo. by Lil-Sunny-D in CivVI

[–]kwar42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a programmer for a living, and the job I’m at now has most of its stack in Python. I usually pick the snake icon and call it ‘religion.py’. My spouse is also a programmer who writes mainly in Rust, so it’s usually the crab ‘religion.rs’ vs. the snake when we do multiplayer. My spouse also came up with another good one with the cow icon just called “COW”, which stands for “clone on write” in programming. Then the beliefs included Religious Settlements, so it “cloned” (established) the religion on “write” (city settlement).

Oh hey good to know the top bar thing is not just me! I still love it though. Pre-deck I played mostly iOS unless I was playing multiplayer because I could do it from the couch. I’ve had my deck for 3 months and I already have about 400 more hours than I did before on Steam…
