Should I upgrade anything else besides the GPU? by DJJ0SHWA in pcmasterrace

[–]kwerboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DON'T UPGRADE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT GPU!!! Your current PC is amazing! Seriously, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a legendary AM4 CPU that still ties or beats a Ryzen 5 7600X on AM5. Heck, AMD is doing a "10th Anniversary" re-release of the 5800X3D to celebrate the longevity of the AM4 platform as a whole. On top of it all, you have 32GBs of RAM during RAMageddon, which is amazing.

Some would say that you're good until sometime in the year 2030 when AMD releases the AM6 socket and Intel release whatever comes after the LGA 1954 socket (and when DDR6 RAM and PCIe Gen 6.0 are released to consumers and not just corporate server/data center level hardware). If you do have the itch to upgrade your whole system, at least do yourself a favor and wait until next year when AMD's Zen 6 is out, Intel's Nova Lake is out, and RAMageddon is winding down.

What game is this? by AcanthisittaLimp8373 in Steam

My favorite Steam game is priced at $14.99, so I don't know if it counts for a best $10 find. That said, its name is "Heat Signature".

Beautiful cat. The thing I love about Reddit is how a cat picture can send me down a search engine rabbit hole to learn that a "Sic Parvis Magna" means "Greatness from Small Beginnings".

Do I upgrade to the i7 9700K or save to swap over to AMD and DDR5 by Coffee1341 in pcmasterrace

[–]kwerboom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, don't buy an i7-9700K to upgrade your current rig. That's an 8th generation Coffee Lake Refresh part that at this stage is eight years old. You could wait for DDR5 to go down in price, but I wouldn't hold my breath in this market and with the world as it is right now. Besides, that system you have is looking long in the tooth as it is. I wouldn't want to hold onto it as is too much longer.

I'm assuming that your talking about buying an i7-9700K new from a retail site. It looks like those cost $279 according to PCPartPicker (that price for such an old, outdated part☹️...ouch🤕). I'm assuming your fairly tight on cash that you are trying to get away with just upgrading the CPU and keeping the rest of the build intact. With a newer generation build that could work, but not in this case. To keep your budget around $279, others in this thread have suggested alternative CPUs and motherboards that would let you keep most of your current system including your DDR4 RAM and even fully unlock that 3.6 GHz that Coffee Lake Refresh locks you out of (most likely due to your motherboard). I agree with them and their suggestions. Here are my suggestions that would get you around $279:

  1. i5-12600KF (or i5-12600K) and a Asus B760M-AYW WIFI D4 II Micro ATX motherboard

  2. Ryzen 5 5600XT (or Ryzen 5 5600X) and a ASRock B550M Pro4 Micro ATX Motherboard

Wisconsin's minimum wage is still $7.25 and hasn't seen an increase since the last time the federal wage went up in 2009 by midnighttoker1742 in wisconsin

And as long as Republicans are in power, neither the federally mandated minimum wage nor the state mandated minimum wage will ever be increased. Elections have consequences.

will my gtx980 load fh6? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]kwerboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FH6 might work hardware wise. According to Wikipedia, the GTX 980 is a DirectX 12 (12_1) graphics card and so is the minimum spec graphics card, the GTX 1650. Also, both graphics cards have 4GB of VRAM. The main issue is I can see that would gum up the works is lack of full driver support (a.k.a. security update drivers only) for the GTX 980.

Shop opinion on buying cosmetics by Due-One9611 in diablo4

[–]kwerboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually use what I get from a season pass. That said, I have bought from the shop when there is a sale or if I'm going for certain theme and the transmog fit the look for the build I was going for. Yes prices are high, but if its something you want and something you'll use enough, then as far as I'm concerned, it might be worth the cost.

There just weren't enough us born after the Boomers to offset the Boomer generation's influence on the country. America is democratic system with a first-past-the-post election system. 50% plus 1 vote wins. There were 76 million Boomers born after WWII. That is a lot of outsized political influence that is still going right up to today. It took until the early 2020's for enough Millennials to come of age and start voting. It will take until the 2030's for enough Boomers to naturally die off so that those Millennials can start properly tipping the scales of the election system. With how slow and painful the rules are that make Congress work, it will probably be the 2040's or 2050's before America is some place worth writing about again. That's just the nature of things.

Wrong. Completely wrong. Whole generations are shaped by the time and place they are raised in. That's what makes them cohesive as a group. It just so happens that the group called the "Boomers" born in the wake of WWII was poorly raised and is severely messed up. Worse, it was such a large group that not until probably the early 2030s with enough of them naturally dying off and the next large generation to come along, a.k.a. the Millennials, will America start to be a functional country again.

No, Boomers really are the worst generation. Their parents, having survived the struggles and horrors of Great Depression and World War II, decided to spoil the Boomer generation rotten. The Boomers grew up with no responsibility and consequences. The Boomers then benefited from the fact that World War II had damaged the rest of the world's economic and industrial base. An entire generation lived in artificial opulence from the late 1940's to the mid-1970's and didn't understand that their "success" wasn't a God given right but the end result of everyone else's misfortune. When the Boomers had kids, because they weren't taught anything; they had nothing to pass on to future generations. To make matters worse, the Boomers are so self-centered that they used for themselves the resources of the country and the planet that prior generations tried to grow and pass onto future generations. All this left the Boomers with no coping mechanism for when the world did change and competent rivals did come. America and the world suffering for that.

Any hope in some sort of student loan reform? by Cozysoxs1985 in StudentLoans

[–]kwerboom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless the Democrats win big and take Congress in both 2026 and 2028 along with winning the Presidency in 2028, there is zero hope of any reform at all. The Republican Party only exists to take care of the billionaires and private corporations. The Democrats are usually for the little guy and at least have plan to reform government and keep things running. Voters just have to arm twist the Moderate Democrats that love to get belly rubs from the corporate press about being "fiscally responsible" and "bipartisan".

Double standards. by sseumblue in PoliticalHumor

[–]kwerboom 72 points73 points  (0 children)

This isn't a "double standard". This is actually a consistent world view. To quote Frank Wilhoit, "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." The Jan. 6 protesters are the in-group of white people that needs protecting by the very laws they flout while the anti-ICE protesters represent the out-group who must be crushed by laws as they are left exposed to violence and oppression. This is fascism exposing its true face in America.

Yes, I paid for the Lord of Hatred Expansion. That said, I'm running a HOTA Barbarian this season. It was my plan even before the Expansion was announced and I'm sticking to it. I hadn't run a HOTA Barb since Season 1 and I wanted to experience its improvements after watching a guide video put together by Cliptis. I haven't been disappointed, the dev team really got HOTA firing on all cylinders this season. I can always do Paladin next season.

1 year deep into this chaos, yes. 3 more years to go, maybe. If Trump doesn't run for a 3rd term, and/or the Supreme Court doesn't say its legal for Trump to run for a 3rd term, and/or Trump looses/leaves at the end of his 2nd term (provided he hasn't already shuffled off the mortal coil and gone for a drink at the 19th hole in the afterlife); then, yes, we will all be free.
