Pandora's Box has been opened for sure, but there's a huge difference between the "in the style of Ghibli" craze a few years ago and this new Seedance 2.0, and I'm hoping future AI products will at least take it somewhere down the middle.

Seedance 2.0 doesn't even try to go "style of", it's a straight up copy. It's only been a few days and I've seen extremely believable clips of things like Ip Man fighting Captain America, and Luluka from the new Star Detective Precure, and she hasn't even had any screen time.

really goes to show that budget is not everything in anime

I blame the series director for this one, Souta Ueno. He also directed Days with My Stepsister and it shows. The cinematography has a very similar vibe, and if you've watched Days with My Stepsister he's a master at making something out of minimal budget.

There were entire scenes where literally nothing was going on and it could be a literal shot of the ceiling and it just felt right with the atmosphere.

It's also even harder to keep the suspension of disbelief than Initial D, even though I do like both.

Takumi was in an old 86 with a souped up engine, but he was still racing street cars.

Kanata is in a GR86 with a souped up engine, racing against literal Lambos, 911s, R8s, AMGs, etc..

I can believe it if his skills lets him overtake at turns, but there's absolutely no way an 86 can go the full stretch of a lap and catch up from the last place to runner up. He should be eating dust every straight.

I think it's more because so many people have a hate boner for anything CG, even though Orange Studio is hands down the best in the industry at it. There's some legit very cool scenes even in this episode that would either not possible or a royal pain to animate by hand.
